Loved it. Being a northern lass myself I loved reading this book and just heart warming. I was drawn in from the beginning and would highly recommend and definitely read more by the author

A Daughter’s Gift is about a family struggling to stay together. When Elizabeth’s mother dies, her sisters Jenny and Alice are fostered. Aunt Betty and Uncle Ben take baby Kit and Elizabeth and Jimmy goes to the children’s home.

Elizabeth starts working at the hospital as a laundry maid and trains to be a nurse where she meets Captain Jack Benson and falls in love with him. Will their differences in class keep them apart? Elizabeth has to chose between helping her sister Jenny who has been adopted by a cruel farmer or her love for Jack.

My first Maggie Hope book and it certainly won’t be my last. A real heart wrenching story, beautifully written that depicted loss, hardship and love. I was thoroughly into this story and desperate for Elizabeth to have her happy ending!!

She starts working as a laundry maid but soon takes an intrest in training as a nurse. Her brother Jimmy gets a job down the pit. Elizabeth is determined to stay close to her brothers and sisters but the care system has other ideas. Elizabeth has no idea where her two sisters had been sent, but she is determined to find out.

This is a beautifully written story. A heartbreaking but also a heartwarming romantic tale. There is a well rounded mix of characters in this story of hardship. I really enjoyed this book and the story had me gripped from the beginning. Overall, this is a very enjoyable read.

A real page-turner filled with family struggles where you can't help but hope for the best for the characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait to read more of Maggie's work.

A Daughters Gift is the story of Elizabeth, who after the death of her mother struggles to keep her siblings together. Her Aunt takes baby Kit, her sisters are found foster homes and her brother Jimmy and herself end up in the children’s home next to the workhouse.
As they grow up, Elizabeth wants to better herself, so eventually she can bring her siblings together. She starts work as a laundry maid but becomes interested and eventually starts training as a Nurse. Her brother Jimmy starts working down the pit.
Elizabeth then meets Captain Jack Benson and falls in love with him. But, because they are from different social classes people and incidents in their lives stop them being together.
This is a lovely heart-breaking story of love and loss and one’s determination to keep her family together. This is a real page turner and I thoroughly enjoyed this. This reminded me of books by Catherine Cookson. If you like them, you will love this. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this.

A solid historical saga, not too dissimilar to others in this genre. That said I did enjoy it and would read more.

As she has forged herself a career to try and better her life she is put in to a quandary when she meets wounded officer Jack. Elizabeth realises she is going to have to make huge sacrifices in order to fulfil the duty she feels but at what cost?.
I really enjoyed this story and the setting of the North East. The story came alive through good characterisation and the emotions were well written.
The story pulled me in from the beginning and kept my attention to the very end as I became desperate to find out how it all worked out for Elizabeth.
A entertaining saga I would recommend.

What a truly beautiful story I simply could not put it down and hardly did so until the beautiful end. This is my first book by Maggie Hope and I look forward to many more.

Elizabeth and her four younger siblings are orphaned in 1910, a very hard time in our history and are separated from one another. Elizabeth, only 10 years old at the time, is determined to make the best of the tough life in the children’s home that her and her brother Jimmy are placed in and is vows to reunite her family one day.

A Daughter’s Gift is a beautiful romantic family saga that I highly recommend and give it a well deserved 5 stars. Lovely characters that I will remember for a long time and a great storyline.

A change from my usual read but I did enjoy this historical fiction set in the north east of England around the time of the first world war. It was a little unbelievable in places which I found a little bit frustrating but I still thought it was worthy of 4*,

A lovely story that left me in floods of tears. A sad subject to write about but this was done in a strong and intelligent style.

Great story with the rich mine owner falls in love with a nurse looking after him when he has been injured in the war. There are twists and turns in this story, with surprises popping up about parenthood and miss understanding. Elizabeth wants to care for her siblings particularly when she becomes aware that her sister is suffering abuse at the hands of her adoptive father. Elizabeth is pulled between her love for Jack and the need to ensure her sister is safe. Good read that is difficult to put down.

I have only just started reading books from Maggie Hope. This book was the one that started it all. I loved every minute of reading this book.

A really moving, touching storyline. This is my second reading of this novel and I found it just as wonderful as on first reading.

This story tells the hardship that she and her siblings have to endure to survive.
When her path crosses with a wounded Captain from the war what happens after that is heart breaking at times. It revolves around the coal mining community and the hardships that they faced just to get through each day. It is a lovely heart warming romance book that once started you won't want to put down
