Senlin Ascends was a brilliant piece of writing by Josiah Bancroft and the follow up Arm of the Sphinx carries us further admirably. No pun intended as he has now inadvertently become the captain of an airship as he progresses further up the Tower of Babel. Interesting to see how the different members interact with each other in what appears to be a doomed venture. Senlin is hallucinating and some of the crews secret are about to be revealed and who or what is the Sphinx.? Fast paced and interesting ways in which they manage to extricate themselves from what seems daunting odds. Reads rather like a mixture of Alice in Wonderland going up a tower of surrealism instead of a rabbit hole and taking on a steampunk hobbit quest. I enjoyed it immensely. Can’t wait for the next one after that tantalising glimpse of the first chapter of The Hod King
