This book has an addictive quality that makes you want to keep turning pages way past your bedtime.
The story follows Joanna, who's grown up in this super controlled environment, the New Terra Alliance, and thinks she's finally getting out. But twist! Turns out she's part of something called the August Harvest, which is basically a death sentence. The suspense is killer as she tries to figure out how to escape, especially with the help of this rogue soldier.
I loved the whole atmosphere of the book – the twisted secrets, the underlying sense of dread, and the bits of romance that give you a breather from all the tension. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that I felt like some of the world-building could have been fleshed out a bit more. But overall, it's a gripping read with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.

I really tried to get into this book as the premise sounded good and I had seen there was a mixed bag of reviews but I got about 25% the way through and had to admit defeat.
Sorry 😕

I would rate this book between two and three stars. The idea is good, but there was a lack of cohesion and development of the characters. I didn't care for them at all, and that's what hold me to a story. There are very few original ideas these days, and that's OK because it's next to impossible to create something that hasn't been done, but I need to feel something and I just didn't.
