Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience

A great read, full of tension and twists and turns. Looking forward to reading more from the author in the future.

Faye Kellerman at her best. Pete and Rina Decker novels never disappoint. The plots are enthralling and the characters so familiar that it feels like I’m sitting at Rina’s table sharing a wonderful Friday night dinner. Each tale is convoluted and confounding and Walking Shadows is no different. A fabulous read by a great author

I must admit I did find the number of characters, especially those whose name began with B, a little confusing.

This was a change from my usual dark thriller and unfortunately it didn’t really grab my attention.

A fascinating book that keeps you involved from the beginning right through to th final page. Definitely recommended to those readers who enjoy reading this type of book.

I love this series of books. Peter Decker is the perfect detective and Rina Lazarus, his wife and unofficial partner. This story is set in upstate New York where a body is discovered in the woods. Then a jewellery store is robbed and the and the owners are found dead. What is the link between the deaths. Peter and Rina get to the bottom of it.

Another fantastic read by Faye Kellerman. The Rina and Decker series is one of my favourites. Thank you to Harper Collins and NetGalley. Faye Kellerman just draws you into the pages of her books and you can lose yourself from the first page to the last. I have no hesitation in recommending this book or her others for that matter.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Another Peter Decter and Rina Lazarus story based in New York that did not fail to delight. Would recommend.

A good read but I feel that I have read better books by this author. I will still read more books by Faye Kellerman.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

Can you believe it, this is the 25th in the series! This is one of my less favourite ones. All characters start with a B, that made it really hard to keep track and was kind of annoying, making it harder to get into the story. I really love the Decker/Lazarus couple though, so I can't wait for the 26th instalment of this series

I love Decker/Lazarus book and this one, even if it's not one the best in the series, still delivers.
It's an engaging and entertaining read even if the plot is sometimes a bit confused and it seems to be dragging.
It was great to meet again Peter and Rina, I've been loving them since the first book I read in this series.
The mystery was complex, full of twists and turns, and it kept me guessing.
I liked this book and look forward to reading the next one in this series hoping that the current issues will be solved.
Recommended to fan of the series.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Peter Decker still rocks and Rina is a calm presence as opposed to the earlier books. It was a perfect book to couch read.

I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for a review copy of Walking Shadows, the twentyfifth novel to feature Lieutenant Pete Decker and his wife Rina Lazarus, set in the fictional New York State town of Greenbury.

Out on another call Decker discovers the body of Brady Neil, an apparently quiet man of twenty six with no known enemies. As he investigates further he discovers that Brady’s dad has been in prison for twenty years after being convicted of armed robbery and murder. Does this have anything to do with Brady’s murder or the disappearance of his best friend, Boxer? Certainly there are anomalies in the case.

I thoroughly enjoyed Walking Shadows which is a twisted tale of old crimes casting long shadows. It is certainly true, as other reviewers have commented, that the ending is inconclusive and there are some plot lines that start and just peter out (no pun intended) but rather than being disappointed by it I saw it as more of a positive. It is impossible after twenty years to get the full truth and given both the time and staff constraints in modern policing it makes sense to prioritise what they can investigate and prove so I saw the inconclusiveness as realism. I got my reader satisfaction from Decker’s conclusions which seem smart and logical.

The plot itself is interesting with many strands, participants and motives so I found it quite a compulsive read and was feverishly turning the pages to see what was coming next. It is full of mayhem and lies so great stuff.

Throughout it all Decker, ably assisted by his sidekick Tyler McAdams, investigates relentlessly with his wife Rina providing the calm, smart advice and occasional research to keep him balanced. The banter between McAdams and Decker is lively and, at times, humourous providing some light relief to the strain and tension of the investigation.

Walking Shadows is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

First Peter Decker novel that I have read for a long while, he is getting a bit long in the tooth now and although semi-retired still a great Detective, well done, Faye Kellerman.

I’ve read the previous 24 Peter Decker and Rina mystery Detective books so I was excited to receive this review copy from NetGalley.
I still enjoy hearing about this Detective duo’s lives as well as reading a good mystery and this book provided both.
Peter and Rina are now living on the East Coast in Greenbury where Peter is in semi retirement working for the local police department. Looking for a quiet life after LA this town seems to be anything but! There seems to be one murder after another in the 4 years since they have moved!
Whilst investigating malicious damage perpetrated by teenagers Peter comes across a dead body.
As he looks into the murder he is drawn into a 20 year old case which might be linked. The dead boy is the son of a convicted murderer!
This story has everything murder, blackmail and crooked cops. Decker is even asked to look after the neighbouring towns’s police chief’s daughter Lennie who is also a cop. The chief wants her to have some homicide experiences. However it is not clear whether she is a spy for the neighbouring department or truly there to learn from experienced cop Peter.
Although the plot was fast moving and the book easy to read there were a lot of minor characters, mostly with names beginning with B- Brandy, Brady, Brandon and sometimes this was rather confusing. I almost needed to write a list to keep track.
The eventual solving of the case was also slightly unsatisfactory as I couldn’t really work out why Brady was killed. Was it blackmail related or something else?
I liked reading about Peter and Rina’s relationship, particularly as they age and their trip to Florida to visit their elderly mothers was a fun interlude as well as helping in the case.
Tyler or Harvard as he is called, is a good character and well developed. i enjoyed reading about him although his culinary skills must be zero as he seemed to eat all his meals at Peter and Rina’s.
Overall this was an enjoyable read but perhaps not the best in the series. I will definitely read the next book when it is published as this mystery series for me is like periodically meeting up with old friends.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange for an honest review.

This series has always fulfilled my crime novel needs, and this edition is no exception. The writing has that easy flow to it and the characters are very much old friends to me by now.
That being said, new comers will not feel isolated or lost if the 25th Decker case is their first; it reads like it’s the first.

Loved this mixture of old and new familiar characters but in a new place I cannot recommend this highly enough

Walking Shadows is another brilliantly addictive novel in the Decker/Lazarus series from Faye Kellerman- personally I love this dynamic duo who I’ve followed for years since that very first meeting in book one.

Each mystery is intriguing and unpredictable, alongside that we have the family life behind the scenes and one of the things that keeps bringing me back to these books is the solid relationship between Pete and Rina, one we can all aspire to.

In this instalment Pete finds a body and gets caught up in a 20 year old case, the resolution of which is blurry at best. Caught between two precincts, politics and cover ups seem to be the order of the day.

The plotting is clever, the writing as always is wonderful and returning to Decker’s world is always one of the highlights of my year.

Completely recommended as a series.
