Very good plot, keeps you interested. I liked the mannerism the book has been written in. Approachable language and style. Well defined characters. Strong 5 stars.

At first I didn't enjoy this book and stopped reading within the first 30% of the book. But recently I came back to it and I'm glad I did! I'll seek out more from this author.

The task of repopulating the senior library has been an exciting and daunting task aS in a boarding school our aim is to encourage all members of the community to read. Because of this, I have been searching down a wide and diverse range of books to read that will entice a wide cross-section of the school to come in, browse and find books that they love.
Books like this will ensure that the senior students in the school see the library as a diverse, modern and exciting place with books that speak to them and they want to recommend to their friends, classmates, teachers and tutors.
It is an engrossing and exciting read with fully-formed characters and a plot that ensures that it's hard to look away. It is as far from formulaic as it is possible to be and kept me up far too late in order to finish it. I immediately wanted to read all of this writer's other books as I loved their voice and found that it really drew me into the story and made me think about it even when I'd stepped away from this tale.
This is a thought-provoking read which I'm sure will be a popular and well-read addition to our new library; I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to read it and I know that the students are going to absolutely love it too!

A fast paced thriller which kept me guessing - I found the ending a little too tidy and their were some plot holes but, otherwise, a good summer thriller read.

An unbelievable story these things happen to her and she does not inform the police? I did not enjoy reading this book. Golden Dagger award really?

I really loved the premise of this novel and overall it was a good read. I liked the characters and the plot though at times it felt pretty unrealistic. But still a fast-paced read for lovers of this genre.

This book was very readable and quite good fun - but I did feel the content was implausible and this did spoil my enjoyment of the book somewhat.

This wasn't a bad read but far from the best I have read. Jack and his two younger sisters are left on the side of the motorway in their mother's broken down as as she leaves to try and find help. After a very long wait the children decide to go and look for their mother. Unfortunately she is not found and so starts a hard life for the three youngsters. Three years down the line and life is not getting any better. There is a spate of burglaries that the police have nick named the "Golidlocks" burglaries. How do these relate to Jack and his sister's?

This novel has a fantastically gripping opening scene – a brilliant example of a real hook. Three children are left alone in their broken down car while their heavily pregnant mother goes off to get help. Jack, left in charge, immediately gets to you, and is a wonderfully drawn, fully realised character. You can really feel his growing fear and frustration as time ticks on.
Jump forward a few years and Catherine, heavily pregnant, alone in bed one night investigates a noise downstairs, and a series of creepy events lead the two strands of the story together.
This is where things began to fall apart for me. I didn’t believe that Catherine would keep what had happened to herself, for a start. And once the police got involved, their incompetence seemed to be more a way to keep the plot going for longer than genuine.
There were places where I was completely involved and couldn’t wait to read what happened next, and places where I was so frustrated with the plot. It’s disappointing to be so invested in characters and a story and then to feel let down like that.
So it was difficult to give a star rating – some of the writing was brilliant and the story galloped along. And some of the characters really got to you. This could have been so much more.

Deservedly long-listed for the Booker, this crime novel looks at the fallout from a murder years before, and how it relates to another crime that's on the verge of being committed. Very good use of a child narrator.

sorry but this one doesn't really work for me. Too many implausible plot lines, the characters were not believable, including the police. Even the ending did not satisfy me

Snap is a story of an 11 year old boy called Jack who's mother leaves him and his 2 younger sisters, to go for help when their car breaks down and never comes back. Most of the book is set 3 years after the event, showing how Jack and his sisters were badly affected and how they have struggled to cope. I thought the book was quite an easy read and enjoyable but I did think some parts of the story were quite implausible, and the conclusion felt under developed as were some of the other characters. However, the character of Jack is well rounded and you really hope that he will get through the grief that he has endured. I would recommend Snap for those who like a quick crime story but I think it could have been better.

This was quite a different book than the usual psychological thrillers that are out there at the moment. It was a good read although very twisty and particularly heart-breaking in some parts.

Not your usual mystery book I found some of it implausible and some of the characters not well defined however overall the book was a good read that kept my interest.

Yet again, Belinda Bauer has written an original, highly unsettling read about love and loss.

Snap is more than just a police procedural/psychological thriller combination. While there's plenty of investigating going on, Snap is about the emotional impact of tragedy, with three abandoned children taking centre stage. Jack, the eldest, is trying to maintain some sense of normality, even though their world has fallen apart.

The book is well written. It's a slow burner at first, to set the scene and introduce the characters, but eventually moves along at a cracking place. I love the mixture of darkness and humour - sad, tragic and funny at the same time. The multi-layered plot is a little far fetched, with plenty of police incompetence and coincidences, but it's also compelling, highly entertaining and very twisty.

The children are portrayed realistically and their plight certainly pulled at the heartstrings - with Jack's alternative' parenting style and sense of duty towards his younger sisters creating some very funny moments. The police came across as caricatures, but I thought this fit in well with the nature of the book.

Snap is a fun highly memorable crime novel - not to be taken completely seriously!

Started off with lots of different threads which ended up being all nicely interwoven. Not 100% convinced about the ending but was a good read overall, would recommend!

This was a sad story in parts and almost a farce in others. Inept seeming police but with hidden depths and a family tragedy which has far reaching effects. Very compelling storyline with a need to find a solution. Interesting conclusion.

Snap by Belinda Bauer is an intriguing psychological thriller from one of my favourite authors. A chilling and dark novel with an most filmic opening it will haunt the reader. Crime writing at its best.
