What an amazing thriller this had so many twists and turns I felt like I was on a rollercoaster and I love a good plot twist fantastic keeps you guessing roo the very end

I really struggled with this read. I felt there was nothing endearing about any of the characters. The story was a bit predictable - lone woman starts to notice things amiss, those around her let her think there is a rational cause, make her doubt herself and her sanity. The main character and supporting cast were all unpleasant in one way or another. At no time did I feel sorry for anyone. Despite the twist at the very end, it wasn't enough to save this from being a book about unpleasant people doing unpleasant things to other unpleasant people. I could not connect to or feel anything for any of the characters.

I really wanted to like this book as the blurb sucked me in. I found, however, that I struggled to feel engaged in the plot and invested in the characters.

Another mystery/thriller book, I really need to stop going in spades of reading this because sometimes it really does affect how much I like a book. This was fantastic, I really enjoyed the book was brilliant. I did not see that ending coming at all!

Thank you to the publisher for my eARC copy of this book. Unfortunately I didn’t love this book and therefore didn’t finish, I just didn’t connect with this one. Not for me, sorry.

I've had this on NetGalley for a while but never got round to reading it. Now I have due to Lucy's "The Castaways" book (I give that one 5 stars) so I'm trying read her other books and this being one of them.

Lots of of red herrings to follow and another storyline to lead you down the garden path which you think will lead to the end and in a way it does. Lots of tension as the main character thinks she's going mad because of things happening.

Love how Clare Mackintosh's name is dropped into the story :)

Very clever.

A story about just how vicious sibling rivalry can be! Well written and the tale races along. just as you are convinced it’s heading in one direction it turns on it’s head and forks off the opposite way! Really well thought out characters, an enjoyable read!

Disappointing. Sounded really thrilling but instead it was very slow and not gripping at all. Had high hopes for this one.

I've heard several bloggers saying good things about this novel, so I thought I'd bump it up on my list.

You Let Me In follows Elle is a writer struggling with writer's block after the international success of her first book. She's just arrived back from France after a writer's retreat, having rented out her new house. Something's not right. The person who rented her house seems to have been inside rooms, which Elle locked up. As her deadline approaches, there are minor incidents that seem innocuous and messages appear around the house. Is it all in her head or is something more going on?

This is a dual narrative book, switching between current Elle and events that happened around the age of eighteen that transformed her life.

This is definitely a slow burner of a novel but the tension builds nicely, we see Elle's mental health decline rapidly where she's not even sure if things happening around her are real.

Elle is one of those characters I'm not entirely sure I like. A struggling writer, tortured by events in her past and the breakdown of her marriage, I had sympathy for her, but she seemed quite self-involved and a little selfish at times.

There were some good shocks and surprises along the way, but there are still parts of the book that are bothering me as I'm writing this review. I can't really go into detail as it could be classed as spoilers, but the overall story didn't quite live up to my expectations.

You Let Me In was a solid psychological thriller and definitely worth a read if you love the genre.

Spine chilling, dark, goosebumps, hairs on the back of my neck stood up to attention. I kid you not. This is a twisted psychological thriller that will eat you up. You won’t care what’s going on around you, your attention is going to be focused in between these pages!

Lucy Clarke is an author that I live and need to read more of for sure. Her writing is superb, she weaves a thriller so well.

If you like unexpected surprises in your reads......read this.

Sometimes you read a book and you have zero clues where it is going. You are shown a path and then, then you are turned around onto a different path. This is what happens here!!! I had an inkling to whom was doing what they were doing, but the story behind it I did not. I loved the story at the end, what a full circle of events – clever!

I listened to this book and then when I got impatient I quickly changed to the ebook. I needed to see what was going to happen. In a way, I feel like not enough penance was given to someone but I did like the final kick in the teeth.

You Let Me In has the ability to put your teeth on edge, it is the thought of someone you didn’t let into your home, be there. The sounds don’t seem the same and then a lot of strange things start to happen. It began to make me wonder, was this all in Elle’s head? I mean she is a writer, after all, was fiction becoming real life?

You can feel the isolation for Elle, especially with the mammoth house she has had built, which felt more cold and sterile rather than a home. The fact, people could see in with the big windows from the beach is so creepy, you never quite know who could be watching you. Plus, with everything going on, you could see how isolated she was as a person and where that all began. It feels she has no one as the crazy starts to ramp up, and we have so many suspects to turn our eyes at. This isolation also feeds her paranoia, which again makes us question the narrator in front of us.

It is a taut thriller which will leave your head spinning with revelations, it is a like a lid on a pressure cooker waiting to explode. When it does, there are most definitely fireworks. I couldn’t believe that someone was doing these things! I mean why? I was shocked too, for the same reason but the revelations that kept coming and coming and coming! Bar hearing the noises in the house, one of the creepiest things for me is the Facebook live video, I kept waiting for something to happen. I love suspense like that, keeps you guessing and tears at your last nerve. This book is by no means boring, there is something all the time to keep you entertained. There are a lot of red herrings and a couple of them I don’t think they’re tied up, whilst others had been given to me with a nice red bow on. Booklover01 anyone!?

I enjoyed my first foray with a Lucy Clarke book and I will be checking out her other works. I love the way she weaves her story, dangling so many carrots in front of you so you trot on through the book. I didn’t trot I was full speed ahead that was for sure! I needed to uncover the ending and all the tantalising secrets!!!

Read May 19

Elle is a young writer whose debut has become a bestseller netting her enough money to renovate her dream cliff-top house in Cornwall. She has a few problems though: 1. Money is running out fast and she’s suffering from horrendous writer’s block for her second book. 2. After letting her house on Air B&B while on holiday to bring in a little extra money it no longer feels “right”. 3. She’s having trouble with her ex. 4. A difficult relationship with stay-at-home mum, sister Fiona. And 5. Her neighbour’s son who may or may not be a stalker.

The story was gripping, claustrophobic and delightfully twisty. It kept me guessing all the way through.

I found this book to be very creepy, but in a good way. Imagine in today's society, where everything is out on social media, still feeling like someone watching you, but you just can't prove it. This is a very scary thought and the main plot of this thrilling read. Gripping until the end, recommended.

How did I leave it so long before reading this book! I absolutely loved it. I devoured it over two days.

Elle, the lead character is suffering from insomnia and paranoia. How much of her paranoia is due to insomnia and how much is real?

Set the above in a large house on a Cornish cliff top and you have all the perfect ingredients for a taught psychological thriller.

Loved it!

I had seen Lucy Clarke’s previous novels on bookshelves, bestseller lists and as a pick on the now infamous “Richard and Judy Book Club” but had yet to read one myself so was pleased when the opportunity arose to see what all the fuss was about. I was not disappointed.

Author Elle, struggling for money and to meet her impending publisher’s deadline, has rented her newly remodelled house out whilst at a writer's retreat attempting to get over a case of writer's block. When she returns however, the atmosphere has changed. She doesn’t feel like shes alone. However - she is a novelist, she has a vivid imagination so is it paranoia and all just in her head?

I loved the creepiness of the plotline and how twisty and full of red herrings it was. It was deeply unsettling at times and using the concept of what happens after you let your house out as an AirBnB - how do you know that it's as safe as they say it is?... I’m not sure I’ll be using them in the near future until this book is out of my head at least! felt fresh and new as an idea. The story flows well and the atmosphere and environment is so vivid and feels real to the reader. You can really put yourself in Elle’s shoes.

4/5 - A great thriller, just creepy enough to keep you reading on.

Thank-you to NetGalley for providing me with an Advance Readers e-proof copy from publishers HarperCollins UK. All opinions are my own and are impartial and free from bias.

Elle Fielding is an author living in a newly rebuilt house on the top of a cliff overhanging a Cornwall beach. Her first novel was a huge international success but she is struggling to start her second novel. Whilst in France for two weeks, she rents her house out through Airbnb to a family. On her return she starts to feel uneasy and realises her study at the top of the house must have been opened, even though she left it locked. Other things start to happen but her sister, Fiona, tells her everything is in her imagination but she starts to suspect everyone and also revisits a bad time in her past while she was at university. There were lots of red herrings throughout this book and although it got a bit frantic at the end I wasn’t expecting the outcome - a twist within a twist! Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for letting me review this book.

Well, what an absolute belter that was. The phrase page turner is tossed about so frequently it's almost lost all meaning. But this was utterly compelling, unputdownable and a compulsive page turner of a novel if ever I've read one. There are a lot of fairly generic, not unenjoyable examples of the psychological thriller out there right now - similar in plot, title, design etc. But this one stands out due to the quality of the writing. Lucy Clarke is really very good indeed. No spoilers here as part of the enjoyment for me was the absolute cluelessness with which I read it and the delicious shock at the totally unexpected revelations and twists. It was thought-provoking rather than merely titillating and it was this depth that raised this novel head and shoulders above its peers. Highly recommended - tense, twisty and a lot of nail-biting fun!
