Brilliant book, absolutely loved it. The setting - in Cornwall - the house - causing extreme house envy - and the tense storyline, made this one of the best books I have read recently.
The possibly autobiographical part about an author who has got writer's block and the modern day setting of a letting on Air BNB made this very topical.
Modern characters and a strong plot, a very good book, look forward to more Lucy Clarke.
Thank you Netgalley

Lucy Clarke's fifth novel is a suspense-filled psychological thriller that introduces us to author Ellie Fielding. After the phenomenal and almost overnight success of her debut novel Ellie is living the dream - from her cliff-top house she posts regular social media updates showing the beautiful sea views from the perfect writing room that overlooks the sea. But how much of it is real? In fact, Ellie's husband has left the dream home that she can no longer afford and she has such severe writing block that her long-anticipated second novel is looking like it will never appear - and that means the huge advance from the publisher will need to be paid back. Bang goes the fantastic career, the house, the image - the lot.

While ignoring these worrying truths, Ellie heads off on a pre-arranged writing retreat, and to try and make a little extra cash, she decide to 'AirB&B' her home for the few weeks she will be away in France. When she comes back things feel odd…and she can't quite put her finger on why. From this point, things get  weird and Ellie, trapped in a nightmare that she doesn't understand, begins to get increasingly paranoid. There were a few things that happened that seemed unlikely and a few too many red herrings for my liking - but on the whole, the plot is well written and the reveal was clever and surprising.

Nothing has felt right since Elle rented out her house. There is a new coldness. Every noise echoes with the thud of a stranger’s footstep. The atmosphere has changed. The there are darker clues left behind: the message scratched into Elle’s writing desk; a tiny shard of glass, wedged into the carpet with deadly precision; fresh fingerprints on the window. I am in your head. Maybe it is all in Elle’s mind? She is a writer, her imagination is her tool. But every threat seems personal. There are secrets, deeply buried, that keep Elle awake at night. Now someone is unlocking her past and she has given them her key.

I was not sure what I was going to make of this but I did enjoy the read. Clarke has a very tense, dark atmosphere, with a strong sense of foreboding throughout. At the beginning it is unclear what exactly the danger is but we just know that there is something waiting round the corner, or in ths case, right at the end of the book. I was soon invested in this  book and unable to put it down. I enjoyed learning about Elle and her life, reading about her beloved house and how everything has changed because of renting it out. I do have to say that some of this book is confusing, I think Clarke has tried to do too much and at times my mind was just boggled, trying to remember where we were with the different plot threads. It is not a major issue, just a niggle that dampened my enjoyment. There are flashback chapters throughout, which I do not think are necessary. I am normally a fan of a flashback but they did not bring anything to the plot and only added to the confusing jumble of plot threads.

Looking at the plot as a whole, I did enjoy the plot, especially the premise. Overall, the plot is a good overall effect, there are just minor niggles that I did not like. Character wise, Clarke has a spectacular character in the form of Elle. She is likeable but flawed, and I relished getting to know her and seeing the impact the strange goings on have on her. There are moments where we do not know if there is something sinister happening or if it is all in her head but this only fuels the drama. I particularly enjoyed reading about Elle and Flynn, they have very heartfelt interactions and it helped to add an emotional, human layer to the plot.

On the whole, I did enjoy this thrilling read. There are moments where it is let down but then Clarke uses a truly shocking twist right at the end which turns the plot on its head and injects a burst of excitement into the plot. Clarke has created a fantastic character in the form of Elle and this intense, dramatic plot has plenty of moments that will chill you.

A story about someone writing a book! I wasn’t too sure when I started the book but I did get sucked in and it was quite creepy and atmospheric. The. you just had to keep reading to find out what was going on. It was a chilling read and that kept me engaged to the end.

Absolutely loved this and it’s been on my tbr for ages, I tried not to spoil it for myself by reading other people’s reviews so I went into this book completely blind not knowing what to expect and I was blown away by it.
I loved how the writing really made you feel as if you were there, it painted a very scenic picture for me. From start to finish I was utterly gripped and the story really played with my mind wondering what was happening!
I’d highly recommend this book if you’ve not read it already.

Elle has the life many writers dream of - a bestselling debut novel in international languages, a deal for a second book and a wonderful clifftop house in Cornwall with a beautiful writer's room. But not all is idyllic as it seems, and when Elle comes back from a summer in France, she starts feeling like she's not alone as she thinks in her empty house, and old fears and memories come back to haunt her.

I found You Let Me In an extremely atmospheric, creepy read and felt really sucked in after a few chapters. Elle isn't a particularly likable character and does come across quite cold, and almost uppity at times but I liked that she was also an author and I did wonder if some of her thoughts and frustrations with her writing was an exaggerated reflection of Lucy Clarke's - particularly when it came to the pressures of follow-up novels after such a successful debut.

There seemed to be a lot to uncover with this story, and Elle was definitely a character with a lot of secrets, all of which were revealed one by one. If I could describe this book with a colour, it would definitely be a misty gray - I don't know if it was just the subtle creepiness of potentially Elle not being alone in her house, the description of her home or the cliffside/beach setting.

I definitely guessed some things that happened in this book but not all, and I did find the twist and reveal pretty entertaining.

It took me a while to get into this and despite the long descriptions of the idyllic setting, also took me a while to get myself into that atmosphere of the house and its surroundings. There were lots of twists and turns but I found myself starting to be able to read them and predict the next one. The characters paranoia was well described and also completely understandable. I did guess the outcome though and this is the reason I am only giving it 3 stars. Just a little too predictable for me.

I didnt enjoy this to be honest and I thought it dragged along at a snails pace in places, the lead character Ellie was pretty annoying I found and I guessed halfway through who the culprit was!

I did find it quite chilling in parts and it did have my second guessing sometimes; it just wasn’t my cup of tea which is a shame as I’ve loved all her previous books! Sorry!

This novel is an edgy unsettling read as it builds up the tension. Elle is an established writer anxious to meet her deadline, so she rents out her place to go to a writer's retreat. On her return, something doesn't feel right, but she can't put her finger on it. Is she being watched or is she feeling paranoid? Then it becomes creepy and tense. At first, I thought she was over-reactive but changed my mind. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK.

I really enjoyed this book and had my suspicions as to who she had let in but kept changing my mind as the story unfolded. I did feel the end felt a little rushed and it all come out quicker than the rest of the pace of the book.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of Lucy Clarke’s You Let Me In. The rating and review are my own thoughts and opinions, and have not been influenced by receiving this book to read.

My first Lucy Clarke book and I enjoyed it. It won’t be putting her to the top of my favourite author list but I would certainly read another book by her in the future so I guess she is now on my radar.

The AirBnb aspect is very relevant at the moment and made this book feel creepier for me (whilst reading in a rented AirBnb!) Suitable red herrings and twists however, after initially being suspicious of every character in the book I did realise who the ‘culprit’ (probably not the right word for this book) was before the big reveal.

I really enjoyed this book and devoured it very quickly. I enjoyed the way the story moved between Elle and the "intruder". I didn't really think the flashback chapters moved the story on very much though. I will definitely look out for more books by this author and I would highly recommend.

I have really enjoyed all of Lucy Clarke's books so far and this one did not disappoint! A gripping psychological thriller that will keep you turning pages till the end!

I loved the imagery used and totally would love to live in Elle's beautiful house by the sea... this book will keep you guessing until the end. Every new character introduced into the story becomes a suspect as you try to fathom who is in Elle's house ....

A brilliant read - cant wait for the next book from Lucy Clarke! Many thanks to netgalley for an arc in return for an honest review.

4.5 stars
I don't tend to read adult fiction but the blurb for this really intrigued me when I saw it available for request on Netgalley. I'm glad I let myself out of my comfort zone of reading because this book was amazing. I'm definitely going to check out more of Lucy's books.

The story was quite slow which usually I don't like, but the story had so many shocks and twists throughout that I had no idea who the person following Elle could be. I loved how everyone was a suspect, and I felt so sorry for Elle, paranoia and insomnia are not fun things. I loved how we slowly found out about her past and how every time I thought it was one person, something would prove they were innocent. Then just before (literally a few pages before) the actual culprit was revealed, I figured it out - it was still unexpected who it actually was and I liked the little epilogue that is set a year later, which just ties everything up.

A page turner from the beginning. The story builds suspicion and tension throughout. A good psychological thriller.

Elle arrives back at her house by the sea after a writer’s retreat. It is the first time that she has rented out her dream house on Airbnb. Something doesn’t feel quite right about the place since she got home. There is a coldness, a shift in the atmosphere.

Her publisher is desperately chasing her for the second novel in her book deal. The first story was a huge success and they really want to start working on the creatives for the PR campaign. The only problem is that there is no book, that blank piece of paper confounds all her attempts to start it and the deadline is looming closer.

Feeling like someone is watching her Elle starts to wonder if it is all in her imagination or if there really is someone out there paying far too much attention to the cosy social media presence that Elle has created.

A spine chilling thriller that will keep you up all night desperate to work out who has discovered Elle’s secrets, the secrets that keep her awake at night. The secret that will change what everyone thinks of her.

You let me in is a wonderful new thriller from Lucy Clarke, and is the first i have read by her and certainly won't be the last. I have tried describing this to others and i just cant because it was so full of twists and turns there was a heck of alot i did not see coming.

Elle, a well recognised author decides to rent her house on air b&b to get a bit more income whilst she visits an authors retreat, with her deadline looming and the risk of loosing everything it feels like a temporary solution to help her get back on track.

When Elle arrives back something doesn't feel quite right about her house, there is something wrong, she is convinced someone is still around, the atmosphere is off and she cant place all these oddities.

As things appear to become more personal, she seeks advice from family but i mean imagination is her career after all so could it be that her mind is running away with her?? As more things change, and the threats really focus on her, someone knows her secrets and she is convinced someone is in her house we follow Elle as she tries to get a handle on things.

You let me in was fantastic. As a reader all the clues where there underlying the narrative for you to work out, but it took you on a rollercoaster of twists and turns meeting an aray of characters all with alterntative motive of knowing Elle.

I loved the pacing, it kept my hooked from the start and left me feeling anxious and on edge as the narrative progressed. I found myself sneeking reading in 5 minutes here and there all the time because i had to know what on earth was going on. It was so well written and i enjoyed it right to the very last page. I cannot wait to read more from Lucy. Wonderful read would totally reccomend.
