Already reviewed. Sad to say I didn't much enjoy the book as it seemed very derivative. Having said that it is very well written so probably the fault is mine..

A very complex novel full of twists and turns. Two sisters whose closeness is underlined by jealousy and rivalry. Smaller stories all the way through make for interest.

A nice slow build-up of oddness and suspicion. Deliberately written in a confident and persuasive manor. We empathise with the main character enough to make this a natural pageturner.😈

Lucy Clarke is an author I usually save for my beach reads in the summer. She has a wonderful way of bringing her settings to life, most of which are based near or around water, so I always want to read them whilst on holiday by the sea. You Let Me In is set on the Cornish coast, a personal favourite of mine when it comes to family getaways, so I definitely felt a shiver of anticipation as soon as I picked this up.

There was a darkly gothic feel to the narrative here that I’ve not felt before with this author and it really suited her writing style. She brings the Cornish house belonging to author Elle Fielding vividly to life with her hauntingly evocative prose and I could picture the house, especially the writing room, perfectly in my head. As the twists and turns and things that go bump in the night began unfolding, there was an incredibly powerful and palpable tension created. This then continued to build up to a terrifying climax as the strange occurrences that were happening in and around the house continued. And as the plot unfolded there were some shocking revelations about who may (or may not!) have been staying at this stunning Cornish hideaway when Elle rented it out on airbnb.

I raced through this book desperately searching for answers to the questions thrown up by the author. Who rented Elle’s house while she was away? What had happened to Elle years before and is it in someway related to what’s happening now? I have to admit to being completely flummoxed by the twists and turns that occurred and I do love it when the author manages to completely pull the wool over my eyes!

Lucy Clarke is a favourite author of mine and I love her books. This one is a little more commercial than her others but I found it immensely enjoyable as it was just so darn addictive and readable! And the ending was absolutely stunning!! Literally!! My jaw hit the floor! Very, very clever!

If you’ve not read any of Lucy Clarkes books before then this is a great one to start with. A wickedly twisty and atmospheric read that is well worth a look!

I couldnt wait to see what happened in this book. I found myself guessing at every turn who the culprit was. I did guess before it was revealed but then doubted myself as did Elle at every point. A great storyline with lots of twists and turns.
Would definately reccomend.

4,5 Stars.
This was my third book from Lucy Clarke . After reading “You Let Me In” I can definitely say that she has become one of my favorite authors. She captivated me again with an unusual story and very lifelike characters.

This book is a dark and creepy read. Elle comes back to her luxury cliff house in Cornwall after a writing workshop in France. To get some extra money she rented out the house out via Airbnb. But when she returns she is irritated by the strange feeling the house suddenly gives her. Then strange things begin to happen. Elle feels watched but she also suffers from insomnia and so she fears that she is imagining it or did it herself in her overtired state of mind. She is under a lot of pressure. Her husband left her after finding out something she kept from him. She has a deadline for her next book which she feels not able to hold. Money is tight because renovating the house was expansive. She has a lot on her plate but something else is eating her away inside. It is like her subconscious is punishing her. She has quite some secrets and keeping them hidden is taking its toll on her.

I was not drawn to Elle right from the start. She is overdramatic and self-centered. But she felt very real, very authentic with her flaws. However, I don’t have to like a character to become interested in the story. After finishing the book I must say I was right to dislike her. I dislike her even more now. But I got very much into the story and it captivated me completely.

I am not going to say much about the story. It is too complex and you should just jump into the story without knowing too much about it. I had a lot of different emotions while reading. It is, like always with books from Lucy Clarke, a very intense read. She simply can create unique stories who can give you goosebumps.

I highly recommend this book for lovers of dark psychological thrillers.

This is the first book I have read by Lucy Clarke and I’m wondering how this has happened, as this was an excellent read. I always love it when I find an new author with more many more books to read, so these are all going on my Christmas list.

This is the story of Elle as she is trying to meet a deadline to complete her second novel. Her first was an international bestseller and as a result she lives in a beautiful house, which she has designed, close to her sister as a full-time writer, her dream come true. Well almost.

However, all is not as it seems and it is not as straightforward as it should be. After renting her house out for two weeks, while in France on a writer’s retreat, Elle finds the house has an odd feel to it on her return. As the deadline looms there are unusual things happening all around including in the house and Elle is convinced somebody is causing these problems. The question is who and why?

Unnerving and scary at times with cleverly plotted events left me wondering if Elle is imagining these or if they are really happening. The characters spring into life at every twist and turn with surprises all the way through. I would not want to read this late at night if I was on my own.

I loved the ending.

I would like to thank NetGalley, HarperCollins UK and Lucy Clarke for my ARC in return for my honest review.

Excellent read and highly recommended.

I have a huge confession to make (yes I know this is fast becoming a habit). Although I have all of Lucy Clarke’s books on my ever increasing ‘TBR’ (to be read) mountain, I am ashamed to confess that I haven’t read any of them. Sorry Lucy. However all is not lost because judging by how much I enjoyed ‘You Let Me In’ , I can guarantee that they will not be on the mountain for long. I absolutely loved ‘You Let Me In’ but more about that in a bit.
I can’t honestly say that I warmed to any of the characters in ‘You Let Me In’. That’s certainly not a bad thing because it meant that I could have an overview of the characters and not feel biased one way or another. As is typical with the crime books I read, I suspected everybody and believed nobody. I wasn’t sure what to make of Elle and my opinion of her changed a lot throughout the book. I couldn’t be sure if she was telling the truth and somebody was watching her or if she was uber paranoid. I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to hug Elle or slap her silly with a wet flip flop over something she said or did.
To say that this was addictive reading has to be a huge understatement. I was addicted to reading this book from the moment I read the synopsis. The plot certainly intrigued me and I knew that ‘You Let Me In’ was going to be one of those books that I had to start reading sooner rather than later. The more I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages were turning. If I had to put the book down then I was counting down until I could pick the book up again. I binge read this book over a couple of sessions and it really worked because it gave me a sense of how unsettled and fearful Elle must have felt. Lucy Clarke is one of those authors who uses such vivid descriptions of situations that you feel as though you are slap bang in the middle of the story and one of the main characters. Reading ‘You Let Me In’ was much like riding on a very scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with twists and turns aplenty. I was expecting some surprises but the main surprise was the twist in the tale, which snuck up on me and I was left feeling as though I had been punched in the gut and had had the breath knocked out of me. It’s certainly fair to say that this was one book that messed with my head a fair bit.
In short I have to say that I really enjoyed reading ”You Let Me In’ and I will certainly be reading Lucy’s other books just as soon as I can. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to other readers. I can’t wait to read what Lucy comes up with next. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Creepy nail-biting thriller. From the start “You let me in” grabbed me. From the intruder’s vengeful thoughts as they secretly wander around famous writer Elle’s grand cliff top house in Cornwell to Elle’s increasing stress and paranoia as her life unravels. The past comes a-knocking at Elle’s door and every time I thought I had it all figured out the story twisted again. Cleverly written, I hung on every word. It’s a cliche but I really couldn't put this story down.

Hey, Elle is an author, she has had an unexpected world wide best seller...she is rich now and has renovated a Cornish cliff side house...her 2nd book is due and is eluding her...she goes away for a week to a retreat and ‘Air BNB’s’ her new home out...when she returns the house ‘feels different’, something has changed, but what?...she then tries to trace Joanna who took the weeks lease..she cant be found...WHO did live in her house and why and what did they do and why are strange things happening to her now she is back?...
Enter a Sister, her husband, a partner who is estranged at the moment, a shifty local librarian, a Facebook stalker of her author page and a past Ella is trying to forget and you have a top class psychological thriller
Creepy and intense and full of surprises it was one of those books towards the end I was rushing the words to find out what had happened.....I ended up moving from lying down to sat up leaning forward at the edge of the bed as it got nearer the conclusion (s) and the pieces slot together!!!
I really enjoyed the authors narrative on the characters anquish at trying to write the second book and the change in her life from writing for pleasure to suddenly having deadlines and publishers breathing down her neck
I loved the parts set in the local library ( and the characters met there!! ) and also the book club
Its a fascinating read and I honestly loved every minute of it, the ending is extremely clever ( not saying twist as far more than that!!)
10/10 5 stars

Thinking of renting out your home on Airbnb? You might think again when you read You Let Me In by Lucy Clarke...

With her debut novel, Wild Fear, author Elle Fielding enjoyed the kind of runaway success most writers can only dream of. Wild Fear made all of Elle’s dreams come true, affording her the life she always wanted, including her dream home, a beautiful old house on the Cornish coast. The thing about dream homes is that they don’t come cheap; Elle has spent most of the six-figure advance she received for her second novel renovating her home to perfection. Now, the money is gone and with the deadline for her highly-anticipated sophomore novel looming, Elle is starting to panic. The problem is, Elle’s work in progress is currently nothing more than a masterclass in procrastination. Elle might have been living a whirlwind life of festivals, signings and talks while meeting her adoring fans, but what she hasn’t been doing is a whole lot of writing.

What’s a girl to do when her advance is gone and she’s behind on her mortgage repayments? Why, let a bunch of paying strangers live in her house for a few weeks, of course!

This sharing economy we live in today is all well and good – if you don’t think about it too deeply or too often. The thing about You Let Me In is that it makes you think about this stuff; this book makes you think about posting your personal information online (as Elle does – along with the rest of us), it makes you think about all the people that sign up to Airbnb and hand over their house keys to complete strangers without a second thought. When you think about it, it’s totally insane that we do this stuff! After all, there’s nothing to stop those strangers getting your keys copied. There’s nothing to stop them using those keys to sneak into you’re your house late at night...Eeek!

However, when Elle returns from her trip, it seems that any fears she had about letting strangers stay in her house were unfounded. Apart from a few kids toys left lying around, Elle’s house is just as she left it: pristine. Elle is pretty house proud, just FYI. The thing is, though everything seems to have gone well, Elle appears to be troubled. She can’t sleep on her first night back. And she feels uneasy, almost as if someone is watching her...Then there’s the shard of glass on Elle’s bedroom floor; the shard of glass - placed right in front of her floor-length mirror - that pierced her foot. There’s that uneasy feeling again. There’s something strange about the placement of that shard of glass. It’s almost as if it was staged – almost as if it was put there on purpose to hurt Elle. But who would want to hurt Elle? After all, Elle has never hurt anybody. Or has she?

As things go from bad to worse and Elle’s dream life turns into the stuff of nightmares, it soon becomes clear that a blank word document and a dwindling bank account are not the only things Elle has been keeping secret from the people in her life.

Tense, tightly-plotted and highly original, You Let Me In wins in terms of shocks and surprises, twists and thrillers. In short, it has everything I want in a thriller. A winner!

This was my first Lucy Clarke book and it was good! I thought the topic was really interesting, especially because AirBnB is so big right now (I've even considered using it myself!) the author sets up what initially is an innocent situation and makes it mysterious and scary - I think the main character's home is a really good place for authors to set thrillers around in that way, because a home is a sort of safe place. I did not see any of those twists coming! This book was jam-packed with red-herrings and I loved it, it really kept me guessing and I did not see the ending coming despite thinking I knew several times.
There was a really interesting set of characters, and I was suspicious of everyone which really fed into me believing these red-herrings.
I also liked the Cornwall setting - though it is described as this gorgeous house on a gorgeous cliff overlooking a gorgeous beach, I feel like that fed into the eeriness of this story too.
I enjoyed this book and hope to read more from this author.

I have enjoyed all of Lucy Clarke's books and this was no exception. Elle is a writer living in her dream house on a Cornish cliff. However, her life is far from perfect. Her marriage has fallen apart and she is struggling to meet the deadline for her second book. After she rents her house out on Air B and B, strange things start to happen. Just who exactly is trying to freak her out, and why? This is a real page turner, which will keep you guessing until the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.

This was, for me, a one sitting read.  I know it's a cliche but I couldn't put it down.

Throughout the book there is an underlying note of tension which puts the reader on edge, and the author cleverly pulls you down into the depths of Elle's confusion and paranoia, such that I was never comfortable; always second guessing every interaction.

This misdirection and suspicion, driven by a well paced narrative, and aligned with flawed, yet grounded characters, combine to produce a chilling, yet completely enjoyable read.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Oh my ! Breathtakingly good. Read in a day. That good!

Elle has invested everything in her perfect Cornish house. She decides to rent it out when she is away, but when she returns, nothing seems the same. Elle is a writer with a vivid imagination. Have things really changed? Is she a reliable narrator?

A brilliantly written chilling psychological thriller with twists and turns aplenty. Lucy Clarke writes beautiful prose and slowly builds the tension, using the readers imagination as well as that of her characters, until we reach the final twist.

I would thoroughly recommend this one - thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to review.

Back of the book :

Nothing has felt right since Elle rented out her house . . .

I’M IN YOUR HOUSE

There’s a new coldness. A shift in the atmosphere. The prickling feeling that someone is watching her every move from the shadows.

I’M IN YOUR HEAD

Maybe it’s all in Elle’s mind? She’s a writer – her imagination, after all, is her strength. And yet every threat seems personal. As if someone has discovered the secrets that keep her awake at night.

AND NOW I KNOW YOUR SECRET

As fear and paranoia close in, Elle’s own home becomes a prison. Someone is unlocking her past – and she’s given them the key…

What I think :

Elle is a newly published writer, her book was an overnight sensation, she has been published in many countries. She Is now writing her second novel and finding it hard. She and her husband Flynn are getting divorced and she has just moved into the newly refurbished Fishermans cottage on the top of the cliffs over looking the Cornish coast.

She is having trouble making ends meet until the next part of her advance arrives, so she decides to put her house on AirBNB, the rental service, as she has to go abroad for a couple of weeks. A family rent it from her and her sister Fiona helps out with the arrangements. The rental goes as planned.

However, when she returns from her trip, something in the house doesn't seem quite right, she's started seeing things and she sometimes feels like she's not quite alone.

Also her neighbours son, the same neighbours who weren't very pleased about her refurbishments to the house and have since stopped speaking to her, has started hanging around. It seems everywhere she goes he's there.

Soon the house that she loved so much, seems a bit sinister. She's started finding excuses not to spend time there on her own. Her lovely clifftop house is creepy.

Is it all in her head or is someone trying to harm her ...?

Wow! I read this book in one big sitting ! Its excellent !

Loads of twists and turns that grab you and pull you in, I was gripped from the Start. Its quite eery and claustrophobic in places.  A fabulous ending with a brilliant twist, that I would have never guessed in a million years, I have read all of Lucy's other novels and I think that this is her best one yet !

I give this novel a really well-earned 10/10 !

Elle Fielding is an author who is trying to write her second book with her first being a best seller. She is persuaded to let out her newly renovated house with stunning sea views as an airbnb. When she gets home she notices little things out of place. She is unnerved by little things that she finds and is certain somebody is trying to dig into her past. It is hard however for her to persuade anybody else that it is not all in her head.

I did really enjoy this book and the tension was built up so well. At one point a door slams and just as I was reading it a door slammed in my own house and I jumped out of my skin. There are quite a few suspects in this story as to who is behind what is going on in the house. I guessed quite early on. I was also screaming at the main character who is an author to backup her work. I am still not sure about the ending but it was different to what I was expecting.

I found this to be an intriguing story about a woman who has successfully written her first novel and had it published.
Elle is living the dream (or appears to be). She has a beautiful home, set above a Cornish bay, with her sister living nearby. However, as the book unfolds, Elle finds that mysterious things keep happening within her home, treasured items becoming broken or lost, sinister writing in the condensation of a window, making her suspect that someone else is in her home.
The increasing fear that she is being watched adds pressure to writing her second novel, making it almost impossible. The book explores Elle’s past university days, relationship with her ex, Floyd, and her sister.
The story unfolds dramatically, tension increasing as you become absorbed in this intriguing story, full of twists and turns. It’s almost impossible to guess who is behind the sinister, mysterious events, and I couldn’t put the book down until it reached its conclusion.
Well researched, descriptive, this book is a winner, and I can’t wait to read this author’s next book.

If you’ve ever wondered about renting your house on Airbnb, after reading You Let me in you will think twice.

This novel follows Elle’s life for weeks after she has done just that, let her house on Airbnb. On her return She knows that something doesn’t feel right and her past comes back to haunt her. Or does it? Who has she rented her house to? The family she suspected? An intruder? Someone from her past?

And it’s this thread that is significant through the book. A great read, not too dark a psychological thriller but one that is twisty and edgy as the story unravels.

Whilst I guessed the outcome about 2/3rds of the way through the book. I did not guess the ending or the last twist.

Thoroughly enjoyable and once you start reading you can’t stop.

I've read so many 'psychological thrillers this year, but this is one of the best.

What I like about it is authenticity, I believe in Elle, the situations she finds herself and the ending, while surprisingly is entirely believable.

The story moves from Elle in the present and then to a past time when her life changes irrevocably, this is where you are sure you know who her present tormentor is but are you right? The third voice in the story is the person who once let into Elle's life won't let go.

The novel abounds with paranoia, as Elle appears to become increasingly irrational, even to herself. There are many blind alleys, and part reveals before the dramatic conclusion. The atmosphere is key to this book's impact, and it builds to a crescendo of menace. The setting is vivid and a character in itself, emphasising the storyline, to significant effect.

If you think you're tired of this genre, this story may change your mind.

I received a copy of this book from Harper Fiction - Harper Collins UK via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
