Really enjoyed this! I kind of guessed part of the plot early on, but I didn’t guess “whodunnit” until it was revealed! A really enjoyable page turner, lots of twists and turns!

This is the first book I have read of Lucy Clarke's, and it certainly won't be the last. I was gripped from almost the get go. It is very well written, keeping you guessing right up until the last minute when it all becomes clear who she let in, who was making Elle lose her mind and question her very own sanity.
I even felt myself peering over my shoulder at parts as I flipped through the pages.

I would recommend this to anyone......

Oh my, what a ride this book was, the suspence was nail biting. You know she is being stalked, but the big question is who. The story leads you on a journey of discovery into who and why. If you like an exciting page turning read, then this is it, would give 6 stars if there were 6.

My thanks to HarperCollins for the opportunity to read and review this novel. From the opening it gave me chills and that sense of suspense and hairs standing up on back of my neck continued to its conclusion. It was very hard to put down.

Elle was a complex character and there were aspects of her personality that I found difficult to relate to. I kept wanting to remind her of that looming deadline. As with many psychological thrillers, I would caution readers to avoid spoilers as they work better without knowing too much about what is lurking around the next corner.

I was pleased to learn Lucy Clarke has written other novels and look forward to discovering her back catalogue.

I wasn't expecting a lot from this book and up until the 25% mark I wasn't wholly invested but by the time I reached the end, I could barely put the book down. Elle is an internationally bestselling author freshly returned from her writer's retreat in France and on the cusp of a deadline but after renting out her apartment on Airbnb something seems amiss, and when odd little things keep happening... Elle has to wonder: is somebody in my house?

This book isn't predictable in the slightest. I'll admit, I got to about the 43% mark and had two suspects in mind: it was either the most obvious person in the planet (just because they hated each other) or the other person purely because they said something a little odd that had me thinking "hang on a second, that wasn't right". I was wrong. Both times.

Clarke doesn't rely on big twists and thrills to get you on the edge of your seat. There's an art of subtlety to You Let Me In, it starts with a trickle and ends with a bang. That unease you feel brewing in your stomach is gradually built up throughout the novel until you're left frantically flicking through the pages of your book asking yourself: Is Elle lying?, Is she paranoid? Who is it? What do they know?

By the end of it, I was deeply unsettled and felt a lot of ways about the reveal of Elle's stalker and the relationship between them. Many feelings I won't discuss for fear of spoiling the twist but can definitely see many people relating to the her stalker in some way or another...

TO SUMMARISE: A brilliantly paced, suspenseful and chilling tale of a woman on the cusp of losing everything and a past that threatens to break free. It starts with a trickle and ends with a bang.

Elle lives in Cornwall in the most beautiful modern cliff top house that she has put her heart in to help build. She is a published author and now internationally acclaimed - things appear to be going well. But it’s all superficial. She is struggling to meet the deadline to complete her second book, her husband has left her and she is seemingly devastated as she has been unable to have a very much longed for child.
She is not popular with the neighbours, they consider her house an eyesore and when strange things begin to happen she blames them. Elle is convinced that someone has been in her house. She cannot trace a mysterious air bnb guest she allowed to stay in her house whilst she was away and becomes increasingly upset with her circumstances.
I enjoyed this book and was intrigued to see how events would unfold. It took off in a different direction than I was expecting so there was a nice elemen5 of surprise.

'You Let Me In' is the fifth psychological thriller from bestselling author and Richard & Judy book club pick, Lucy Clarke, whose novels have been translated into 12 different languages. Having enjoyed her previous book, 'Last Seen,' which was chock-a-block full of secrets, lies and deception, I knew this was dead cert to be a fantastic follow-up.

Elle Fielding is a successful author with her first book hitting the bestsellers lists and making her lots of cash in the process. Now, she is under immense pressure from her publisher to make the follow-up just as compelling. Having spent a lot of her earnings remodelling her dream house on the cliffs, she decides to take a break to hopefully cure her writers block at a writing retreat in France and rent her home out on AirBnB to rake back some cash. When she returns she is refreshed and ready to finish penning her second novel, but she soon comes to the realisation that something has changed. Despite her friends reassuring her that everything is normal, and it is just her imagination, Elle insists there is something seriously wrong. They put it down to the pressure of creating another bestseller. It doesn't take long for her to be lost to the pit of despair and paranoia sets in then takes over her life completely. Can Elle be correct that there is something not quite right? Or is it just her vivid imagination, the one that thought-up the plot of her bestseller?

Well, talking of bestsellers, this is a page-turning success and features all the traits of a great psychological thriller. We see the power paranoia has over an individual which is rather scary, if i'm honest. The plot is incredibly suspenseful, and the author does a sterling job of ratcheting up the tension right up until the conclusion. The writing is smooth and flows well, there are red herrings, twists and turns throughout that pull you one way then another at great speed! I found that the writing created a wonderful atmosphere that only superior authors can muster, and the main protagonist Elle is a well developed, three-dimensional character that you can't help but admire. I absolutely loved the creepy factor (the creepier the better for me), I felt I was suffering with Elle through her ordeal, and her situation was brought vividly to life.

All in all, a riveting, satisfying and beautifully written novel that crime fans should not miss! Truly, a real page-turner.

Many thanks to HarperCollins for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

When Elle rents her house out on Airbnb for two weeks she's naturally concerned it might feel odd to go home when a stranger has stayed. But on her return she's surprised to find the whole atmosphere of her home feels different.

As bizarre things start to emerge Elle becomes highly suspicious. She tries to tell herself, she's letting her imagination run away with itself. After all, she is a best selling author imagination is her craft.

But when things start to become more personal Elle starts to question whether someone from her past may have come back to haunt her.

It took me a fair while to get into this book, I kept putting it down and doing other things and because of this I don't really feel like I developed a connection with Elle. The writing is extremely vivid, which is typically Clarkes style but this novel felt different to her previous titles. Although the suspense was created by the reader being unsure whether to trust Elle's version of events, I thought the outcome seemed obvious from fairly early on. I kept hoping I was wrong, and there were times when I doubted myself only to come right back round to realising I wasn't.

The story was written from three perspectives; present day Elle, teenage Elle and the person who stayed in her house. I found the chopping and changing more tedious than tension building. Instead of thinking 'just one one more chapter' I kept thinking 'that's a good place to stop'.

I love this author, and feel horrible writing this review but sadly this book just didn't hit the spot for me. However, this won't stop me eagerly awaiting her next novel.

I really enjoyed this book, although there were some parts that disappointed me. The storyline was amazing and the characters were interesting to read about. Right from the start you learn about different characters that could be responsible for the strange events happening inside Elle’s house. However, once you find out who was doing it, you don’t find out what happens to the others. Because of this I feel like there’s a lot of loose ends that I would have liked to know more about. I wasn’t expecting it to be the person that it was, so that definitely surprised me, but I feel like it was very anti-climatic when you found out who it was. I would have liked more drama and more action. However I still rate this one four stars because I love Lucy Clarke’s writing and think she really has a lot of skill when it comes to writing suspense filled books. This is three of her books that I’ve read now and loved all of them, although this one was definitely my least favourite. I’m so glad that I got the opportunity to read this one early and I would recommend it to people!

I really enjoyed this book. Elle is a successful author who has had her debut novel published to great acclaim. In the middle of a devastating marriage break up, she is struggling for inspiration for that all important second book. She spends far too much time on social media projecting a false image of her perfect life and giving away too much personal information. She rents out her luxurious clifftop house for a fortnight while she is abroad on a writing retreat, and on returning home, she can't escape the feeling that her house is no longer her sanctuary and someone is out to persecute her. But is it a real person or just Elle's imagination running riot?
There are plenty of surprises in the story, and several characters seem to have a reason to bear a grudge against Elle. Just when you think you have figured out who is behind the mysterious events, a little bit more of the story is revealed and you have to rethink your previous assumptions. You can feel a sense of Elle's paranoia throughout the book which is elevated due to her crippling insomnia. This is a really well written book which I would definitely recommend.

I hadn’t read any books by this author before but I certainly want to read them all now ! Set in Cornwall I could visualise this book clearly, I’d love to actually see the house on the cliff and wish this book was a tv drama ! This is a true psychological suspense novel, I did not want to put it down and would have read it in one go if work hadn’t got in the way ! The characters were complex and very well described, drawing you in and twisting and turning with the plot.

I’ve often thought AirB&B is dodgy and now I know why !

Never read this author before but loves this book from begining to end. Thanks netgallery and publishers for letting me have a early review book.

There are so many psychological thrillers out there but this has to be one of the best that I have read. The author is new to me but I will certainly be reading some of her previous work. I had absolutely no idea where the book was going but that made it all the more intriguing and a compelling read. The last two chapters blew me away I hadn't a clue of the unexpected ending

This was another new author from me. Again, I have seen books by her but hadn’t actually read anything until now.

A real page turner from the very beginning. Found it very gripping and didn’t want to put it down, but had to as had things to do. But any spare time I had went into reading this book.

The book is about an author who rents out her house through Airbnb while away and when she returns to the house she feels uncomfortable as if something strange has happened or about to happen. This is when the plot starts to get interesting. I won’t say much more as don’t want to spoil the plot for everyone.

The characters are good, but my favourite was the main character “Elle”. I felt she was a strong character and well developed. At times I felt she was real rather than being a fictional character.

To me the book is very well written, and it had lots of descriptive writing throughout the book. Normally I don’t like this but Lucy Clare has done it just right and for once I didn’t mind. I also didn’t mind the book jumping to the past and present, as it was actually useful to read. Also, when the chapters jumped to a previous event it is short and simple so you don’t get confused as to what is happening. I found the book to be very atmospheric and kept me guessing to the very end. The ending was very surprising and wasn’t expecting it at all.

A really good psychological thriller and I highly recommend it.

I would like to thank NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for my copy in return for an honest and unbiased review.

I loved this book so much that I devoured it in two days. It was one of those books that you can't stop thinking about and plan when you squeeze in your next few minutes of reading time.

The premise is simple, a writer returns back to her home which she has rented out, but there's something not quite right. Then strange things start happening. Are they all in her head or is someone out to get her?

There are a number of brilliant qualities to this book. There is constant switching between timescales and stories, with small snippets thrown in from the protagonist. There are plenty of potential 'suspects' and breadcrumbs to follow. A constant state of unease runs through the book, from concern about the main character's insomnia, to what happened in her past and the side stories of the other characters. It also cleverly picks up on some of the foibles of modern life, like posting far too much on social media and the pressure to deliver (in this case, it's a second novel, which exists like a ticking time bomb in the background)

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone to read, its gripping and full of suspense, and will haunt you for days after.

This is a gripping read.
Elle is living in a beautiful house on the Cornish coast and is working on her second novel.
As the story progresses we learn that Elle has separated from her husband and when things start happening in her house, she doesn’t know what’s going on.
At first she thinks she’s imagining it, and then she thinks it’s the neighbour, then her ex, then her brother in law... so basically she’s clutching at straws.
As the reader, we’re given a glimpse into the mind of the person who is making Elle’s life hell, but their identity is not revealed until the end of the book.
I really felt sorry for Elle, even at the end as her life has been turned upside down.
This is a real page turner and I’d like to thank Harper Collins and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

This was a fantastic thrill ride of a psychological thriller that I ended up devouring in one night, I just had to know how it would all turn out!

I actually knew very little about this book going into it, I tend to go in blind with thrillers sometimes only reading the tagline and I haven’t read anything by this author before so was really excited when first diving in, ( I love discovering new thriller authors ) and what a psychological thriller this was!

I really liked Elle and felt totally sorry for her struggling to write her book, trying to cope on her own after her marriage fell apart and it was easy to get swept away with her paranoia, until I too was questioning everyone. The setting is another thing that made this book work fabulously well too, such a twisty thriller that I was totally caught up in, is someone in Elle’s house or is it all in her head, you’ll have to read it to find out!

A total must read psychological thriller of 2018!

Thank you so much to the publishers for the copy via netgalley.

Oh dear. I suspect I am firmly in the minority here but I really did not enjoy this. This is disappointing, as there’s a fair bit of a buzz around this title and I was looking forward to it. What I’ve realised is that I have a bit of a problem with psychological thrillers as a genre, in that so often the writing seems so… self-conscious to me. This should hardly come as a surprise- the clue is, after all, in the “psychological” part. But I find it immensely tedious reading about a character’s train of thought when I don’t like that character enough to be inside their head. I should add this is a complaint I could apply to a lot of thrillers, but for some reason I found it especially grating in this one.

In this book, for me, the seemingly endless mental yammering drowned out any engagement with the plot. In particular, the author lost me near the beginning when describing a character’s bout of insomnia. Said character wakes up after a sleepless night and makes coffee. “Mmmm, coffee. What would I do without coffee?” I nearly threw the book across the room at that point. I hate this sort of stuff. I assume this is a rhetorical question since you’re not planning on giving it up any time soon! But this is the sort of blah blah blah that I avoid listening to in real life, never mind in fiction. The author goes on to narrate that the character goes for a swim, talking about the “glossy kiss” of her swimsuit, which made me roll my eyes a little. It just seemed kind of trying too hard. I was so irritated by this point that I found it hard to engage and I wasn’t really all that interested in what happened next.

The other thing that this book deploys, which I’ve also come to detest, is a lot of back and forth jumping in timeframes, with the filling in of backstory. Some people may love this. I don’t. I find it yanks me out the mood and the narrative, especially early on in the story when I am mentally trying to work out who each character is and how they fit into the tale.

So, in conclusion I’d say many will find this a fun, pacey, atmospheric thriller. I didn’t. I will say the very final twist is quite clever and give points for that. Also, going on the strength of other reviews, there's clearly an audience for it. Otherwise, sorry Lucy Clarke, it’s probably not you, it’s me.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ellie Fielding has just had her first book published and she is on a high. The money is rolling in, life is good. No more money worries, she has bought her dream home and her second book is in the pipeline.
Her publishers are chomping at the bit waiting for her next bestseller.
Ellie is suffering from writers block and she decides a break will do her good. While in France on her writer's retreat she decides to rent her home out on Airbnb. Ellie comes back well refreshed and raring to go. All soon gets back to normal but is IT?
Being a writer has quite the imagination, things in her life are what she says are a bit off kilter. Her friends try to tell that it is just her imagination and the pressure of writing her next book. The paranoia sets in, she is walking on eggshells as she believes that someone is delving into her past but who??
A past she would prefer to be dead and buried.
This is a real page Turner, the incidents slowly increase until they reach a terrifying climax. I was reading till one a.m. but could not sleep. I had to get up and finish this book or I knew I would never get back to sleep. I love a book that keeps you guessing and gets stuck in your subconscious.
This book is a real page turner, full of suspense and pace. A really good psychological thriller that chills you to the bone. I LOVED IT.

Elle has seen success with the publication of her first novel, but now she is under pressure to follow it with another good one. She has spent the advance and more on remodelling her dream house on the cliffs, so now she has money problems too.
On returning after renting her home on AirBnB, she starts to realise something has changed.
You Let Me In is a good one of the genre. Elle is a credible character, her supporting cast a little less so, but the descriptive and atmospheric writing coupled with a good plot make this novel a page turner. A cut above the rest.
