I've just finished reading this book and am now feeling sad, because I want to carry on reading. I loved this book and have been held captive by the twists and turns. Brilliantly written, great characters and fantastic storyline, I really feel a part of the book and feel sorry for the characters. Great book, 5 stars and I will be recommending to my friends.

An unusual but gripping psychological thriller. I was hooked in from the start of the book - the action started almost straight away. A story of kidnap, imprisonment, murder with so many twists and turns along the way.

The pace slows down in the middle of the book but then picks up towards the end. I was kept engrossed in the story. I enjoyed how the characters developed throughout the book as their back stories are revealed. Short chapters told from different viewpoints compel you to read on.

An original storyline which I enjoyed.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Don’t You Cry is a compelling story of Nina who (after almost choking on a disastrous first date) finds herself in the midst of a terror filled night. Held hostage, she is pulled into a world of fear as she discovers her capturers – Angel and Lucas - are accused of murder and the abduction of the tiny baby she now holds in her arms. As the night passes though, it seems that not everything is so simple and there is more to this story than first appears.

Told from a variety of perspectives, the first half of Don’t You Cry has a wonderful pace. You feel things escalating but never know quite how things will turn out as the characters are such a complex ball of emotions. That’s exactly what I loved about this book as Angel and her brother Lucas are simply damaged. Showing that the world is not as easily defined into boxes such as ‘good’ and ‘bad’. Instead we exist in a world of grey, surviving if we can.

There are a few things I wasn’t as sure about with Don’t You Cry though. The second half of the book lacks something. I still loved the story line and I thought that it was a really interesting direction to take it in, but it lost something that made the first half so great. I think the lack of Angel and Lucas’ perspectives took away from the pace somehow. Also, Ian and Sam as the ex-husband and son who is absent on holiday felt very two-dimensional and nothing more than a plot / character motivation tool.

That being said, I really enjoyed this book. I loved Nina, Angel and even Lucas equally and found it to be a really compelling read. A thriller with a bit of a difference, you will keep turning to page to find out exactly what did happen that night.

An action packed book that I didn't know which way it was going next. Nina is on a blind date and chokes, Angel helps her and Nina tells her how grateful she is and would like to return the favour!!. Angel takes this literally turning up on her doorstep with her brother and a whole heap of trouble. They shake up Nina's life but Nina finds strength when she no longer believed in herself.

One stolen baby. Two desperate strangers. One night of terror.

I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

When I read the tag line for Cass Green’s latest thriller, how could I resist? I was desperately hoping I would like this novel. But I didn’t. I absolutely adored it. If I could simply leave a review stating ‘Wow’, I would.

Nina, ending an awful blind date by choking on an olive, meets the appropriately named Angel, a waitress who saves her life. When Nina stated she wanted to repay her, little did she know that less than 12 hours later she would be doing just that.

Told from the points of view of Nina, Angel and Lucas, this story grips and enthrals. The reader is sucked in to the panic and horror of that night, and just enough is revealed before switching characters that I struggled to put the book down. Despite the premise, there is no clear-cut hero and villain from the moment the nightmare begins, and Lucas particularly tugged on my heartstrings as the troubled adult who never quite left the abused little boy behind in his past. Hints at the truth of what happened weave gently through each chapter, and although I made the parental link very early on, I still found myself biting my nails to the quick as the page and adrenaline ramped up and up.

My only gripe, if this really is one, was the sheer stupidity of Nina returning to the perpetrator’s home, a pure ‘run out the front door, not up the stairs’ moment that could only ever end one way.

I could wax lyrical for days about Green’s clever storytelling and only hope Don’t You Cry becomes as much a success as her previous novels.

I really enjoyed this book. It slowly sucked me in until I couldn’t wait to find out how it ended. Nina is an ordinary woman caught up in extraordinary events. You will find yourself rooting for her all the way.

Having read a few of Cass Green's books, I would class her as an excellent author. Her characterisation is superb and she certainly knows how to hold a reader's attention.
I felt so sorry for poor Nina, her son Sam is going to Paris on holiday with his dad and his new girlfriend and she is enduring a disastrous first date when she is saved from choking by waitress Angel. Relieved to get safely home, she locks the door on the world and prepares to spend a quiet weekend. However, she soon finds Angel and her brother Lucas at her door, armed with a gun, along with a new born baby. She now is a hostage in her own home.
With the tension ratcheting up throughout, we begin to find out the true story behind the hostage situation.. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book and our sympathies for the characters change as details of a tragic past are slowly revealed. My heart broke for Nina when she had to stop Sam from returning home, he was heartbroken and didn't realise she was doing it to protect him.
Very well written book, there are so many layers to uncover and the tension never lets up. I would definitely recommend it.

Nina is a reluctant divorcee and is on a date in a restaurant when she starts choking. A fast thinking waitres performs the Heimlich manoeuvre saving her life.
The waitress, Angel then turns up on her doorstep with her brother, Luke, and a young baby that is not theirs. Nina finds herself a hostage.
However events move on swiftly and Nina begins to understand that things might not be exactly as they appear on the surface. The baby belongs to a famous TV journalist and they allege domestic abuse as well as Luke’s innocence in his wife’s murder.
Whose version of events is true? What has happened to Angel and Luke in the past?
This book offers lots of surprises and was right up my street.

There are three main characters to this story: Nina, Angel and Angel’s brother. Each chapter gives us some insight into how each character is dealing with the situation and I love when books are told in this way. I really feel writing in this way allows us to experience the story from all angles, in this case from the hostage point of view and the hostage takers.

The suspense throughout this book is immense, I could almost feel the drama through the pages of the book. Not quite knowing how stable Angel or her brother really are and what they were capable of created for a quite dramatic ride. Throughout the unease I got the distinct impression that there was more to this story than meets the eye. I was not disappointed and by the end of the book I realised that there was actually a completely different story to be told than the one I first thought I was getting into.

Nina is a really likeable character. She’s already suffering from the breakdown of her marriage and struggling to deal with the fact that her husband has moved on to a younger model. This coupled with the fact that she has to get her head round the idea of sharing her child who she absolutely dotes on is no easy task for Nina. You already feel sympathy for her from the start and when Angel turns up at her house you think ‘why can’t the poor woman just get a break?’ Nina is a character you can really get behind and I was hoping all the way through that she would triumph and come out the other side.

There is much more to this story than first meets the eye. The plot takes a complete turn and sends the reader in a different direction to the one you first think you’re setting out on. The author wrote this story very well indeed and for anyone who loves psychological thrillers this will definitely be a book for you.

When Nina is helped by Angel during an evening out, she could never have realised the price she would have to pay and how it would change her lfe.
She is overwhelmed when later that evening, Angel turns up at her door, barging her way in, along with her brother Lucas, holding a newborn baby. Nina is terrified, torn between trying to help the baby and saving herself from the menacing situation.
The book explores the past of both Angel and Lucas, their dysfunctional childhood, abuse, and how this shapes the pattern of their lives. Written in the voice of the three main characters, the author delves into their characters, making them more rounded and you can understand the reasons they went wrong.
Extremely well written, the story is fast-paced and compelling, I couldn’t put it down until I knew the outcome.

This book kept me up in the early hours as I needed to know what happened and each chapter kept me wanting more! An excellent story that really looks and shows how nothing is always as it seems.

5 Stars

Thank You to NetGalley, the publisher and Cass Green for letting me read a copy of this amazing book.

this is a psychological Thriller that had me gripped from the start. It took me a while to read, this is because I didn't want the story to end so I tried to make it last as long as I could.

The story is mainly focused on "Nina" and what she goes through on this one night. The story telling was amazing and I found myself a little confused at times when trying to figure out what was going on at times. It is one of those books that will either have the reader hooked or it wont. I was definitely hooked.

I am so glad that a stumbled across this amazing read. I would highly recommend this book.

Nina is on a disastrous date and after returning home settles comfortably for the evening until she is woken by Angel, the waitress from the restaurant that she was at. Angel’s brother, Lucas, turns up covered in blood and with a baby. Nina fears for her life and that of the baby as she is held hostage. Will she survive the night?

This was a great read. Admittedly the first half was a bit slow and I struggled but it soon picked up and the end was brilliant. Really enjoyed it. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

When Nina almost dies during a disastrous blind date, her life is saved by a waitress called Angel.
Later that evening, Nina is surprised by a knock on the door. It's Angel. Minutes later, Angel's younger brother Lucas turns up covered in blood shielding a stolen new born baby in his arms.

What follows is the longest night of Nina’s life. She hears news reports which reveal that in a nearby town a young mother has been murdered and her baby kidnapped. Though she fears the worst, Nina is helpless. The brother and sister have disconnected her phone, taken her mobile phone, and left her with no resources. Before they take her phone, Her son Sam does call, wanting to come home from a holiday with her estranged husband, and as much as that is Nina’s heart’s desire, she orders him to stay with his father.

The lives of Nina, Angel, and her brother Lucas become quickly entwined in this fast-moving story of abuse, murder and kidnapping. However, things are not always what they seem, and the sympathies of the reader are twisted this way and that as more facts come to light.

If you want a page-turner with a cast of compelling characters, this is the book for you.

This is a definite 4 star but I would not go as far as 5 star

Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for an advance copy in return for a fair and honest review.

I’m sure this book will haunt me. May I refer firstly to the shocking revelation in the notes at the end of the book that two women per week are murdered by their husbands or ex’s every week. Added to that many women and children seeking refuge from an abusive partner are turned away from Refuges because of lack of governmental funding. There are probably thousands of women who are in an abusive relationship and too scared, proud or unable to escape. What this book outlines so well is the effect abusive relationships have on the children long-term. This novel has a unique plot. Three people, Nina, Angel and, Lucas with a screaming, stolen baby Zach find themselves in a potentially compromising, invidious situation. It’s incredible to note how the fingers of fear and panic can make people react and force them to make the wrong or dangerous decisions. It’s so well crafted that it makes your sympathies fluctuate. Truth or lies? Inevitably, you find yourself as judge and jury. Who can you trust? How should this situation be played out? It’s very intense from the first page, and the decisions made, and the cliff-hanger chapters add to the momentum. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins.

During a disastrous blind dinner date, Nina’s life is saved by Angel, a waitress at the very same restaurant. Nina, grateful for Angel’s intervention, tells Angel to let her know if she ever needs anything.
Little did Nina know Angel would take her up on that promise, when she barges into Nina’s house with her brother who is covered in blood and with a stolen baby. Don’t you cry is a fast paced read, while the story feels a little far fetched, it’s believable, because you can believe that desperate people make desperate choices. Definitely worth a read.

I was hooked from page one.

Nina is a school teacher who finds herself separated from her husband and struggling with having an empty house as her son goes away with the husband and his new girlfriend during the summer holiday.
Deciding that she “needs to get back out there”, Nina agrees to a blind date but it is disastrous from the off and a waitress called Angel comes to Nina’s rescue in a rather unforeseen way.

Later that night, Angel turns up unexpectedly at Nina’s house and not far behind comes Angel’s little brother, Lucas, who is covered in blood and holding a new born baby. Oh, and did I mention that Angel is pointing a gun at Nina?

This is, and I hate to use the phrase, a real page –turner of a book. The characters jump off the page. I have such compassion and awe for each of the main 4 characters of this book and found myself swinging through emotions as I learn something new from each of them.

A gripping tale full of suspense. The author teases you with snippets of information throughout whilst still maintaining the intrigue. Very well written.
