The memoir of Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters (born Jason Sellards) is a raw, honest account of finding your identity and your tribe. Shears drops many names but even if you didn't know the characters involved you would still be able to "know" them through Shears' words. An enjoyable read.

This was a very hit or miss book for me. More miss than hit I think.
The book is in three sections, Jakes youth, his time in New York and the Scissor Sisters.
Learning about Jakes youth was interesting and I learned a little about him. When it came to New York I found myself getting bored easily as it seemed to focus on casual sex, name dropping and nights out. I carried on though. The final part was about his time with the Scissor Sisters, how they formed and how it all started for them. This was interesting but I would have liked to have had more detail about the group.
On the whole, I didn’t overly enjoy this book I thought it would share more about Jake and the Scissor Sisters. Less about who he knows.

* disclaimer i was given a free copy of this book through netgalley in return of an honest review*
okay, so lets get started honestly i was not entirely engaged while reading this. This novel is a memoir from Jake Spears the lead singer of the group the Scissor sisters! While i am a fan of the group i did not know a lot about the scissor sisters or Jake Spears himself.
This novel is about Spears growing up in Arizona, coming to terms with his sexuality and then the creation of the scissor sisters. I enjoyed this because in some way i related to Spears growing up and being bullied and the struggles he faced, but i also feel like at times this book dragged on and was boring but i would still recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the scissor sisters!
3/5 stars!
