This was a sampler, so I cannot give a full review. However, from what I did read I would really be interested in reading further.

Despite Paige Toon being a hugely popular author I have never read any of her books before. This is because I have always assumed them to be schmaltzy corny romances (which as anyone who know me knows really aren’t my bag). This book then is a lesson in how we should never assume anything as I absolutely loved it! Yes it is a romance but it is not fluffy and oversentimental, nor is it predictable (as I often find romance novels to be).

Five Years from Now is about Nell and Van who first meet as 5 years olds whose parents are in a relationship with one another. They become the very best of friends and adore one another but tragic circumstances separate them five years on. Another five years pass and they meet again and overtime discover that their love for one another is not in fact that of siblings or friends, but something more. Once again though upsetting circumstances pull them apart – on opposite sides of the globe.

In the past Nell has been told the phrase “… one day, maybe five years from now you’ll look back and understand why this happened”. This then is the pattern in which this book is written as Nell and Van’s lives intertwine in five yearly increments. The question is will they overcome all the obstacles set against them; time, distance guilt and duty and eventually get the chance at the happiness they both deserve? I will leave that for you to find out!

Told from Nell’s point of view and written in such an easy and flowing way that demands no effort of you, this book is perfect as a holiday or snuggle up on the sofa or in bed read. The characters become so familiar to you and all have a depth to them that makes you genuinely care about the outcome for them. The relationships between them all are very relatable. I particularly adore Nell’s relationship with her father. Set in Cornwall, the descriptions of the beeches and views and of Nell’s father’s cottage will make you want to book a holiday down there pronto (or give you an urge for a cream tea)!

What I really enjoyed is how very human and real this book is. It does not paint romantic love as a bed of roses. Yes there are butterflies in tummies and passionate kisses and much happiness but there is pain and heartache too and major difficulties to be faced. I definitely recommend you have tissues available for some sections of this story.

I generally read thrillers and fairly hard hitting stories and read this as I felt a need for a break with something a little more soft around the edges. I am really glad that I did. For a lovely relaxing read that will most definitely tug on your heart strings (without making you want to be sick) I thoroughly recommend this book.

Thank you to #NetGalley for an excerpt of this book which left me in no doubt I wanted to devour #FiveYearsFromNow in full!

I was excited to read this short sampler from Paige Toon's upcomng book as I have read - and loved - all her novel. This one I found slightly harder to get into due to the narrator initially being a young child - which wasn't what I was expecting - but the sampler ended on a complete cliffhanger so naturally I'm dying to know what happens next.

The book has an interesting premise so it'll be one I'll be looking out for!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publisher for this review sampler, given in exchange for an honest review.

I love Paige Toon books, the only problem with them is that they always make me cry! As this is only a sampler of the full length book, it was enough to give me a taste of what the book is about, and I think I will still need my tissues for this one.

As usual, Paige has written what appears to be another emotional book which will tug at your heart strings. It looks absolutely fabulous and I will definitely be picking up the story in the full length book.

I’ve always been a fan of books which follows the relationship between characters over a period of time, so when I read the blurb to Five Years From Now, I knew it would be my kind of book. I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to read the sampler of this book, but I have to say it ended in the worst way, as it left me wanting more and wanting to know what in the heck would happen next! I loved the way Toon gave us the story in this sampler, I was wondering how Toon, would make it work, but starting from the beginning was I think the best way to go. I enjoyed getting to know Vian and Nell and the story of how their families came together. For some reason I didn’t expect to get their perspectives at such a young age but learning about how they were when they were younger has made me eager to find out how things will be between them when they get older. This sampler was everything and more I could have hoped for, I will be eagerly anticipating getting my hands on the full story as soon as possible!

I really enjoyed this sampler and can't wait to read the full book. I love the idea - the characters meeting every five years. Well-written - I'm just sorry I haven't got the full book right now!

Very nice story with interesting characters. Looking forward to reading the full version of the book.

Interesting sample. Good introduction to the characters and a One Day-esque revisiting of their relationship at five year intervals. However, I'm not sure I can get past the ick factor of step siblings and what appears to be a romantic relationship.

Well once I picked this book up, I couldn't put it back down again, that's for sure! Paige Toon always knows how to write a page turner. Now this book has fairly long chapters, which normally is a little off putting for me but it just meant that I stayed reading this book for even longer in one sitting and of course 'one more chapter' before bed turned into many many pages! Aside from that, I love love loved the way this book is structured. It reminded me of One Day in that respect because we have a prologue which introduces us to Nell and her Son Luke and then we flash all the way back to when she was five. The book continues on in increments of five years that like, 10, 15 and so on until we reach the epilogue, thank goodness there was an epilogue. I love the fact that we got to revisit these characters again and again and fill in the gaps five years at a time.

Nell as a character is great to follow because she is just a lovely person who knows the difference between right and wrong. She is like a best friend or a sister, not someone who necessarily knows what direction she wants to go in life but knows that she wants to surround herself with love and happiness. Van is very similar in this way, he just wants to be happy and for his family to be happy as well. Like Nell, he has a strong moral compass, I really liked that about both of them. We are also introduced to quite a few secondary characters who can often play the third wheel in a way. One character, Edward, is introduced in the Ten chapter and the friendship between the three of them reminded me a little of the friendship between the three main characters in the musical Blood Brothers, there was great tension between them all, the kind that makes you really really want to keep reading and find out more.

As I mentioned, neither of our main characters really have a great life plan, something which I really liked about the book and they let their circumstances lead them in the direction which suits them best. Sometimes these circumstances are happy, sometimes they are challenging and of course sometimes they are sad. I will admit I had 2 pretty major cries during this book. One at the end of course and another part way through so, as will all Paige Toon novels, have a couple of tissues ready! As always, the book is set between the UK and Australia and due to the fact that the UK setting is Cornwall there is a lot of surfing involved. Now I have no interest in surfing whatsoever but it didn't put me off reading about any of the events or the characters in this book, so have no fear that surfing will take over, even if you have no interesting in waves and boards and wetsuits, these characters will guide you along and you will still have a good time!

As I say, this was a fairly fast read for me, I wanted to try and make it last longer but I really had to find out what happened. There are certain aspects of each chapter that only really become clear when you start reading the next chapter and so you just have to keep reading. There were moments I could relate to, moments that made me laugh and moments that made me cry. All the while though, I enjoyed that feeling of escapism that a Paige Toon novel always brings with it and I am so glad I was able to read Nell and Van's story, it really is one of legend!

Considering this was just a sampler, it’s hard to write a review. However the cliffhanger does exactly as was intended and I need to what happens next

A generous sampler of Paige Toon's upcoming release, Five Years From Now. This sampler was perfect for getting you hooked into the story as well as introducing you to the characters of Nell and Van. The sampler ended on a corker of a cliffhanger. I can't wait for May so I can find out what happens next!

I really enjoyed this sampler and I'm definitely intrigued enough to want to read the rest of the book. This short teaser was beautifully written and I felt really drawn into the story.

I have read some of Paige Toon's previous books so I was excited to see what happens in her new one. The story starts with Nell telling her injured son a story from her childhood. We then see Nell meeting Vian and discover how their relationship develops. The story is very sweet although that seems set to change with that cliffhanger! I can't wait to read the rest of the book when it's released in May.
