This is the 9th book in the David Raker series and I've read a few others, but this seemed quite a stand alone story. Raker tracks down missing people but this book has him as the person looking for others. I enjoyed this story, wondering if David was mad or not.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Suspense and disbelief are your thoughtsas you read the opening chapters. You have to take David's side as he is telling the story, but the woman in the police station is so believable - until....
And then, who would setthis up? Why? How.?
These are the questions a good psychological suspense writer wants you to ask and you do.
Excellent writing in its genre.

This is the first book I have read in the David Raker series. It starts of well with David being told that his wife, who had died 8 years previously, had turned up at a police station. But, after about a quarter way through, it became tedious and boring. I skip read through the rest of the book. The ending is as far fetched as the beginning - not a book I would recommend at all.

Really loved this from the beginning, although far fetched occasionally I couldn’t put it down , a real page turner full of twists and turns .

A really interesting and gripping storyline. I haven't read any other books in this series, but I really enjoyed this book. A thrilling plot that keeps you reading to find out the truth.

Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book very much. I just couldn’t seem to get into it and found myself struggling through it.

I have read all of Tim Weavers books and this one is his best. There was a lot of angst experienced whilst reading it that is all I'm saying about it as I will not spoil this book for anyone.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

A woman walks into a police station with no ID and no phone on her. All she has is a piece of paper with the name of investigator, David Raker on it. She tells the officers at the station that Raker is her husband... But the problem is, Raker's wife has been dead for eight years. The woman claiming to be his wife not only looks exactly like his wife, she also knows all about their marriage, their history, even the private conversations that took place between the two of them. The woman reveals to the police that Raker had a breakdown and that's why he's unable to acknowledge her as is spouse. Even a respected doctor backs up her account. Then items are missing that prove Raker's side of the story - and soon people go missing. He becomes the prime suspect and is hunted by the police. Raker will have to find out the truth before it costs him everything - his memories, his sanity, his life.

I must admit that "You were gone" is not my favourite novel in the David Raker series. The plot is overly complex and at a page count of just under 500 it might have benefited from some close editing as I found myself really struggling to complete the last 20%. Having said that I am a great admirer of the writing of Tim Weaver and this is still a solid contender in the series.

This is the second Tim Weaver book I've read and WOW
You get dragged into the story from the very beginning,
So many twists and turns, did not have an incline who the guilty party was.
This book is part of a series, but can read it as a stand alone.
Will be adding Tim Weaver on my top ten author list
and catching up with the previous David Raker stories.

I have to admit that I have never read any of the David Raker series of books. However, this did not stop me from fully enjoying this book. David's wife Derryn died of cancer a few years ago so who is the woman that has walked into the police station claiming to be her? She looks like Derryn, she sounds like Derryn and she certainly seems to know everything about David and his marriage to Derryn. David start to question his own sanity. Could this really be Derryn and his whole life a lie?

David Raker, a Missing Persons Investigator, is summoned to a police station when a woman turns up there claiming to be his wife. All sounds pretty straightforward until you realise that David's wife has been dead for over 8 years. So who is telling truth- David or his wife who claims that only believes she was dead as a result of his breakdown?


This was a very interesting storyline but it honestly felt a little too far fetched at times and this affected my overall enjoyment of the book.


When I requested You were Gone by Tim Weaver i didnt realise that this book was part of a series and I feel given this particular storyline that the previous history of this character would be relevant here. While I enjoyed the book for what it was though it didn't grip me enough to want to go back and read all the previous ones in the series.

An absolute rollercoaster of a book that kept me on the edge of my seat, I hadn't been aware of this author but will definitely be searching out his other books!

An intense and powerful read filled with drama, suspense and love. Although this is part of a series it works as a standalone, however I shall be getting my hands on a copy of the first 8 books. A well researched and written book that will keep you guessing right till the last chapter.

Wow I've read all of Tim weaver david taker series and I loved them all but this one was probably my favourite how can your wife who's been dead for 8 years come back it's impossible but not in david takers world so this time he's working on himself and it was so emotional to here how his wife's death had broke him and how this new lady claiming to be his wife brought back so many feelings I loved this book if you get a chance to read it pick it up and start but trust me you won't stop I've put in for tims new book on netgalley but haven't had it approved yet I really hope I do though because i can't wait to get stuck in

Absolutely cracking read..page turner! New author for me but would definitely read more from this author now.

Wow an emotional read. David Raker mourned the death of his beloved wife to cancer in 2009. Imagine how he feels to be told she’s alive and it’s him that’s been ill. The more David digs into this the more confused he gets is he ill are they right is he going mad. It’s a page turner of a story with lots of twists and turns along the way. This is a series but can also be read as a stand-alone. A must read.

A little lost to begin with as I was unaware that this was so far into a series, However this worked out to be just as good as a stand alone. Overall this book has me second guessing the whole way through and was mind-boggling.

Although the reader is instinctively on our hero's side it is by no means clear about the plot thread or where it is going. A lively and compulsive read that has pace and which holds interest from page one to the end. It also confirms the general public's view that police just want a result without reference to justice or reason. My interest was held throughout and any in depth review would lead to plot revelations which are not fun. A good book well written.
