Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

Excellent teaser. (Brilliant book - I have read the full one now but didn't realise I'd not given feedback for the teaser!)

I was given a sample of this book to review from Netgalley.

Casey is a recluse and works from home as a proof reader online. When she receives a letter from the previous home owner she opens the letter and it is to liv from her childhood friend and presenter Martha wanting to investigate their friend Juliet’s disappearance. Rather than ignore the letter Casey replies as if she was Liv!!

Having only read the first 2 chapters I’m intrigued enough to buy this book. I want to find out who the first chapters are about!!

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

Eighteen years ago Martha said goodbye to best friend Juliet on a moonlit London towpath. The next morning Juliet's bike was found abandoned at the waterside and she was never seen again. Now, Martha is a TV celebrity, preparing to host a new crime show, the first case will be that of missing student Juliet Sherman. After all these years Martha must reach out to old friends and try to piece together the final moments of Juliet's life.

I enjoyed this enthralling, twisting read immensely. It is quite long for a thriller but Ashdown does a good job at padding out the plot and I never once felt like the plot was dull and I never got bored. The beginning is slow but I found it slow in a way where you know there is danger round the corner so I enjoyed the build-up to an intense situation. Then when the plot gets going I was gripped by the intensity and the whirlpool of secrets and lies that Ashdown has created. This is a very complex plot, with lots of different elements to it and I enjoyed having something to get stuck into and unpick the investigation with the characters.

This is told from the perspective of Martha and Casey. I immediately liked Martha, I found her likeable, easy to get to know and she developed into someone I enjoyed getting to know. Martha has a lot of torment in her past and we slowly discover this as the book progresses. Casey on the other hand is not as likeable, I realise this is for the purpose of the plot but it was hard to sympathise with her and I struggled to connect with her, as a result I was not behind her as a character as much and I did enjoy her chapters less.

I say stick with 'Beautiful Liars', there is a slow beginning but there is a web for you to untangle right afterwards. There are so many revelations in this that will keep you entertained for hours and the shocks just keep coming.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group for an advance copy.

I have been given a sampler to review. Starting quite surreally with a young boy pushing his younger brother to his death then lying about it, I think this theme may be returned to later in the book.

Casey, the overweight, social hermit, proofreader who lives like a bit of a slob, receives a letter for a previous tenant, Liv, and decides to pretend to be her and reply to the letter. This seems a little creepy as the letter is from an old friend, Martha, who is getting in contact as she is re-investigating the disappearance of their school friend. I don't really understand Casey's motive, perhaps this will be explained later. Martha's motives are explained in full detail and lot's of dialogue is used in the story telling.

It looks like the story will be told from multiple perspectives, which I always enjoy, and are definitely secrets hidden that we hope to find out. However, I don't think I've been gripped enough to read the rest of this book, or make a poor star rating to going with a safe 3 stars.

I read this in a day, because I just couldn't put it down and I was very keen to see if I'd worked the plot out correctly!

Eighteen years ago Martha said goodbye to her best friend Juliet on the path by a canal, and then Juliet vanished, never to bee seen again.

Now Martha is a well known TV presenter, and her new programme is going to investigate cold cases, start with the disappearance of Juliet. Secrets that have stayed hidden for years are about to emerge...

Very gripping!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book with all its twists & turns.

Kept my attention throughout though perhaps just a little long? Didn’t stop my enjoyment in any way & I look forward to sampling the other books already written by this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the way the author gradually revealed what had happened in the past, until those secrets collided with the present.

The book is told through two viewpoints - those of Martha who is an investigative journalist, going back to look into a cold case which happened when she was just seventeen and involved the disappearance of one of her best friends. The other narrator is the mysterious Casey - who I loved! - but it takes a little while to work out where she fits into the story and the, Wham! the story really comes alive. So stick with the slow beginning, the gradual unravelling of clues, the remembering of the past. Because everything speeds up once we know who Casey really is!

The writing is wonderfully descriptive and flowing, the emotions real and the tension is wound up at a perfect pace. The character come alive, the more we know about them and the ending is a corker!

I say to the author, stick with the psychological thrillers, because you've made a brilliant job of it!

This was just a three chapter sampler from NetGalley but I got the sense that this is a really good story.
I’ll definitely but it at some point as I’m intrigued about whether Martha uncovers exactly what happened to Juliet.
Thanks to Orion Books and NetGalley for this sampler.

As I was only given a sampler I cannot comment on the whole book. I would say that I found those chapters has already drawn me in and I look forward to reading the rest of the book at the end of June.

If the rest of this book is anything to go by this excerpt I didn’t find anything to excite me, and made me want to read the rest.

I was just sent to preview – I don’t think the website specified that. But I was intrigued enough that I’ll be eager to read it. I’ll keep my eyes open

Loved this book - dark and draws you in from the very first page - page turning at its best with twists and turns a long the way

I loved Little Sister by Isabel Ashdown and was pleased to receive a sampler of her new book Beautiful Liars. This was the first three chapters of the book and it had me hooked from the first page. The story of a missing girl that had never been solved. The TV presenter who had been her friend and the person who received a letter from her who had decided pretend she is someone else. I can't wait to get my hands on this book to find out what happens. I would like to thank NetGalley and Orion Publishing for my sampler e-copy.

I have only read the first part of this book as it's all i have been sent so I'm basing the 5 stars on this part alone. The story is being laid out and it had started really well. Juliet went missing her bike found by the side of the canal and 18 years later there is still no news. Martha was one of her best friends and has been asked to head up a TV series looking at cold cases and has managed to get her friends case to open the show with. The other friend is Lib who we have little info on yet but I guess there is plenty of time to find out more of her as week as the missing Juilet.
I have been given a free sample of the opening of this book in return for a honest review which i have tried to do.
