I received a free copy from NetGalley. Jake is in a custody battle when he meets Ike, scared of the relatives that want to take him from his aunt. Jake is also on trail for murder. Ike lost his own parents as a teen and decides to help Jake as an investigator breaking his word for the first time and not taking the job he had lined up. Action packed and though provoking it reads like it was written to transfer to the big screen.

Wonderful story line full of twist and turns that keeps you glued till the very end. Mr. Hadden has provided an amazing story full of suspense that engages the reader to cheer along with the characters. A must read.

ck Cole is facing a trial for murdering a lawyer. He is only 10 years old but is getting charged as an adult which is supposedly how it’s done Pennsylvania. After the beginning of the book we hardly hear any more about Jack but mostly about Ike Rossi who is a retired football player and now does investigations and a multitude of other jobs which pops up throughout the book. Whatever happens he always seems to have learned all about it previously. The book is not really about the murder but what caused the murder and that comes out in a very long tale. I speed read through a lot of unnecessary descriptive pages just to get to the end. When there was aboard 20% of the book left it finally became interesting and faster paced. But even so I absolutely hated the ending especially about Mac but also the big reveal we had all been waiting such a long time for. It was never explained and as I said it just kind of left you hanging. I will not be recommending this book to others and give it one star. Thanks to #NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

This book has an unusual and imaginative plot. There are enough sub plots and character issues to produce several books. The ending was in doubt to the very end. Much of the focus is on Ike Rossi, a private investigator who sees something of himself in a young boy who has murdered the man he thought responsible for his father's death. The plot key that explains the action is hidden to the very end, and is completely unexpected. The interaction within the families involved is very realistic, and the characters are believable. The final question to me is: who is the victim of the system. By the story's end a number of candidates have emerged. An interesting feature was the ability of the original murder victim to send coded messages from beyond the grave, and the difficulty in translating the codes frustrates throughout the story. Many of these features make this a great book.
