Halfway to Paradise:The life of Billy Fury is an enthralling, detailed account of Billy Fury"s life from the very beginning of his career to the sadly early end.

Much use Is made of local paper reviews and interviews already on record. It is however, very irritating to get the suthor's witticisms and imaginations accompanying the story. Whilst I realise one can't assume the reader has a knowledge of cultural life from half a century ago, asides and supposed reactions and retorts do get a bit wearing.
It is worth sticking to it, in spite of this, in order to link rhe factors I knew along with the gapsI didn't.

Billy Fury had a really good voice and despite the sex symbol persona- something extremely nice in his manner. With crippling shyness and lifelong heart problems it's amazing he and his career lasted as long as they did. Its just an awful pity he - and we - didn't have longer.

Another book about the sadly missed Billy Fury which all fans should read. One of our greatest talents taken away tragically early. Well researched book. Easy to read, would recommend.

Although I was too young to remember Billy Fury in his heyday, I knew the name and love reading about the pop music explosion from the 50's and 60's, about how it was formed, and the fans dedicated following, so this book was a must read for me. It seems those were the days of real pop stars compared to today's manufactured 'celebrities'.
The authors have done an excellent job with a lot of in depth research, and the book is very well written with humour and sadness. Highly recommended read.

Growing up in Liverpool there are certain local artists that you cannot be ignorant of. The obvious ones such as The Beatles and Cilla Black naturally sprint to mind however, there is one artist who is equally revered as one of the sons of Liverpool. That man is Billy Fury.

Caroline and David Stafford have released a well researched and impressive book about the Life of Billy Fury. From his start as an unwell child to a star in the making, Stafford and Stafford look at how his music life was turbulent due to lack of strong leadership and direction, and how he never really hit the heights that he musically deserved.

Halfway to Paradise - The Life of Billy Fury by Caroline and David Stafford is not only a brilliant account of Billy Fury’s life but also of the changing face of entertainment during his working years. It is a great read filled with anecdotal tales from those who knew him best.

Halfway to Paradise - The Life of Billy Fury by Caroline and David Stafford is available now.
