A mystery running back and forth in different time lines, though confusing, is still a mystery and still leaves a reader eager to get to the end.
Such is the magic of this book by Laura Marshall. I didn't like the characters of the book, I didn't understand their fascination with their neighbours, I didn't understand the continued trust that the main character had with them, even a decade later. But that is what kept me reading, I didn't understand the reason and I had to keep going back to the book to find out.
I couldn't point out one single thing that I liked, but the book pulled me till I reached the end. It had some strange powers. I guessed the ending but I still ran to it and stuck with it.
What more can we ask from a thriller?

This was such a gripping read! I loved it as much as Laura Marshall’s previous novel. She explores the themes of friendship, lies and betrayal so well. I felt drawn into the lives of the Monkton family the way that teenage Ellen had been. It’s also very exciting. I gasped out loud while reading it late last night and woke my husband up! I’m definitely going to recommend this book to friends.

In 2007 a young man, Daniel Monkton, is convicted of an offence of rape and sentenced to a prison term. Daniel maintains his innocence, but the evidence against him is compelling, with three young women - Ellen, Karina and Sasha - giving evidence in different capacities.

Ten years later, Daniel has been released... and Sasha has disappeared.

Told largely by Ellen in the present day, the story follows her quest to find out what has happened to Sasha, with whom she shares a flat. Interspersed with this narrative are flashbacks to the past, as we gradually uncover what happened a decade earlier.

Laura Marshall’s previous book, Friend Request, was deservedly successful, and Three Little Lies is a worthy follow up. The title immediately invites speculation - evidently lies have been told, but by whom, and about what, and why? For part of the book I was pretty certain I knew where it was going. Turned out I was wrong...

An excellent twisty and thought-provoking read.

A very enjoyable fast paced book. I enjoy the way Laura Marshall brings a "now and then" perspective to her books, she also has a brilliant ability to keep tensions strong though out, you never quite know where you are when you delve into her books and constantly playing a guessing game as to who to trust, makes a fabulously tense read.
Without giving to much away, this story is focused on an event that happened in the past that has now impacted on the now, very similar to Friends Request, her first book. The subject of rape will never be easy to read or write about, however, Laura has cleverly written a book that packs a punch even with a delicate subject. The characters are good and strong, which kept me guessing which one was telling the truth and which was lying. I had a whirlwind of a love hate relationship with them all, but mainly Ellen who took me a while to warm to.
I really enjoyed this book and the first book by Laura Marshall and now would love to see something a little different in her next book as I think she has nailed the "now and then" feel in both her books . She is a very talented writer so I look forward to her next adventure.

I enjoyed Laura Marshall's first novel Friend Request but loved Three Little Lies more. This is a great coming of age story where Ellen falls under the spell of her new neighbour, the beautiful and mysterious Sasha, and her family. Ten years later when the girls are sharing a flat in London Sasha disappears and Ellen is frantic with worry believing Sasha's life is in danger. But as she searches for her best friend she comes to realise she doesn't know Sasha at all.

Three Little Lies is a roller coaster of a read with believable characters and events. I highly recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley and Sphere for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Three Little Lies by Laura Marshall was a psychological thriller about friendship, secrets and lies. Ellen's friend and roommate Sasha fails to come home from work. Ellen is frantic with worry and tries to find her but even the police don't take Sasha's disappearance seriously. A few twists and turns in the story to keep you guessing.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

5* review for Three Little Lies by Laura Marshall, that i read and reviewed via Netgalley.

"Someone told a lie.
Someone knows the truth.
Someone is watching you."

"When Sasha North comes into Ellen's life she falls under her spell and is soon accepted into her exciting family, but she doesn't see the darkness that lies beneath their bohemian lifestyle. Not until a brutal attack changes all their lives forever.

Ten years later, Ellen and Sasha share a flat in London, when Sasha suddenly disappears and Ellen fears the worst. The police won't take her seriously, but the events of the past give Ellen good reason to be frightened. What really happened that night? Who is telling the whole truth? These are the questions Ellen must confront when searching for her friend. But someone knows Ellen is looking. And they don't want the answers coming out . . ."

It is the first book by Laura Marshall I have read (although i have since bought Friend Request because I was so impressed with her writing), and it definitely lived up to the hype for me, which is sadly not always the case. It is a book where you think you have the answers, but a few chapters later you change your mind, because everyone seems to be lying and hiding something. It reminds me of the old saying that "there is no reality, only perception" because everyone seems to have a different take on what actually happened the night of THAT party and the fallout seems to have followed and haunted not only Ellen and Sasha, but also the rest of the family from Olivia and Tony to Daniel and Nicholas, not forgetting poor Karina, the victim on that fateful night.

The character of Sasha is so well written that I flip-flopped from liking her to despising her and from not caring what happened to her, to really wanting her to be found so that I could hear her side of the story. The characters of Olivia and Tony the bohemian parents added another layer to the story, and I was intrigued by Olivia's chapters in the book to get a mother's take on the teenagers involved.

My favourite paragraph of the book and an indication of the beautiful writing is when Ellen reaches her lowest point, has a lightbulb moment about being so stupid and begins to question her entire relationship with Sasha : "I have been smothered in her lies, like someone buried in the snow for whom death comes not quickly and painfully, but so gradually and peacefully they don't even know they are dying at all"

Firstly thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown Book Group for this book. What an absolutely gripping story. I was totally hooked from the first page to the last. It was like unwrapping a gift , as each layer comes off you don't know what will be underneath or in this case, what will happen next in the story!! Laura Marshall is the queen of the psychological thriller in my opinion. I am now off to order Friend Request. I have no hesitation in recommending this page turner of a book.

Having read and loved this authours previous book Friend Request, I was very much looking forward to starting her latest release and I was not disappointed.
I was gripped from the opening pages and as the book continued further, I was on the edge of my seat constantly wanting to know more.
Laura Marshall does an exceptional job of creating an atmosphere and building tension amongst the characters. I was never sure who to trust or what secrets were being hidden. Wow. I genuinely had no clue what way the story would go and Three Little Lies quickly became a story that was impossible to put down, I was up late because I just had to finish it.
I thoroughly enjoyed Three Little Lies, it's an exceptional novel that I’m sure will be a big hit.

I was looking forward to reading this after Friend Request, and I wasn’t disappointed. The first two thirds plodded along with enough to hold my interest, but the pace quickly sped up for the last third where the secrets were finally revealed. Will look out for more books by Laura Marshall in the future.

A very cleverly written book, took a few chapters to draw me in but then I just could not put it down, was holding my breath until the very last page. An excellent psychological thriller with very topical issues #ThreeLittleLies #NetGalley

Thank you to Netgalley, Laura Marshall & Little, Brown Books Uk for my arc of Three Little Lies.

After reading Laura's debut Friend Request last year, I couldn't resist the temptation of reading her latest book. She did not disappoint.
If you're looking for a book that feels like a rollercoaster ride of events which keep you guessing while firmly planted on the edge of your seat then this is the book for you!

It's been 10 years since Daniel Monkton was convicted of raping Ellen's friend Karina. But when Ellen's friend Sasha goes missing the reader is taken on a trip to the past to find out what really happened. Narrated from the POVs of Ellen, and Daniel's Mum Olivia, we see a story unwind that is full of secrets, abuse & debauchery.

With Sasha missing, Ellen is desperate to find her and as she begins to uncover the story someone makes it clear they want her to stop. Is it Sasha's jealous boyfriend Jackson, Daniel himself who's been spotted in London since his relief, or even Ellen's mild mannered colleague from the radio station. Not to mention there's an ex boyfriend back in town.

This story was so exciting I just couldn't put it down. The characters were interesting and I really felt connected with Ellen. There's a certain witchcraft to writing such amazing twists and keeping the finale a secret and Laura Marshall is a complete expert! Looking forward to reading more from her in the future!

As with Marshall's Debut (Friend Request) this is a good read. It is well written, with believable characters. I particularly enjoy stories were people get pulled into a life that they think is more mystical and magical than their own, only to find out there are secrets riddles throughout the families involved. I also love stories that focus on the teenage time of life, and the difficulties and complex emotions that come with it.

This story will keep you reading, and has some good twists and surprises. Some I thought were a little obvious, but plenty that weren't. Recommend.

An enjoyable thriller - however, I don't think this was as good as Marshall's debut Friend Request, and it felt a bit rushed to me. I liked the parts of the story about Ellen and Karina's obsession with the Monktons, especially how Ellen came to realise she had seen them through rose-tinted glasses, but the rape plotline just seemed overly convoluted and I wasn't at all convinced by how some of the characters reacted to each other and how quickly they seemed to adapt to finding out things they'd been sure of for 10+ years weren't true. I would perhaps recommend this as a quick holiday read but the thriller market is crowded and it doesn't especially stand out.

‘Three Little Lies’ by Laura Marshall published by Little Brown Book Group UK/Sphere on June 28th

So this book was the book that I read on and off over the Eurovision weekend and so if you know me any book that held my interest enough to even read a few pages over that time had to be good!
‘Three Little Lies’ is the follow up
book to ‘Friend Request’ ( you might remember I reviewed this a couple
of weeks ago?)...the all important next book after a phenomenal debut which is eagerly awaited and probably critiqued and reviewed a bit unfairly as ( well I was ) comparing it to the very successful debut
Anyway, enough waffle, it is a very good second book and I enjoyed it
The story is set ‘now’ but goes back and forwards between events that happened years previous, the fallout from those events and now years on,when the truth is beginning to come to light, the impact the past is having!
You have to keep a clear head and at the beginning of each chapter I found myself thinking ‘right, this is Sasha and she did this’ and ‘ok this is the present now remember what this is relating to from 11 years ago’....its not confusing but it did take a few seconds each chapter to sort the characters out in my mind and just quickly go over what had happened and where we were in the story, btw this Isent a bad thing and isent a criticism, just ( for me ) how the book was
The story is dark and twisted and deals with uncomfortable, at times, subjects but deals with them well...the characters are strong and in equal measure I loved and detested them!!
The story drew me in and I wanted to know how it was going to turn out, I know its frowned upon to say ‘twist’ by some readers these days but tough😃 there is a big big twist and its a good one
I really enjoyed ‘Three Little Lies’ and look forward to the next book by this very talented story teller
10/10 5 stars

This was an OK read for me. I loved Friend Request by this author but I didn't find this one as engrossing. It took a while for me to get into as it did jump from one period in time to another, and I found the ending and the reasons as to why Sasha had gone missing not completely satisfying.

I really enjoyed Laura Marshall's first book Friend Request but found this book to be a bit disappointing. It was too drawn out and I didn't really care for the characters. It may just be me though as it has had good ratings from other readers, so although I didn't enjoy it as much, I would certainly read other books by this author.

Quite an addictive read about friendship, deception and trust. Very well written and kept me hooked throughout.
