Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC! First, this book was an interesting look at a life that’s so far removed from mine: urban, gangs, low income, former military. The story itself was gripping. I can’t say I loved all the author choices and directions the story took, but it kept me interested and caring about the characters. Now, what I didn’t like was that the book claimed to be based on true events, which is what drew me to it in the first place. However, after I read the note in the back about the “relayed true events,” I was vastly disappointed. It is more like loose inspiration for the overall theme was a true event. Honestly, I’m surprised they are putting that in the book bc I fk7nd it misleading. I could appreciate the story itself, but don’t expect to see some connection to real life events bc they’re not really there.

100% for me as it stretches back to the mystery figure of history of jack Cade in early England who said no to the over taxing and reach of King Henry. This book is about over reach, imminent domain and ultimately control. The fact it involved immigrant community make give you pause at first but this story could be any group. Enjoy and take a pause to ponder of WHAT HAS happened and the impact of what will come from it.
