Such a fun book! This was a funny, cute story following a girl who has powers to make any boy fall for her. However, this makes her doubt she'll ever fall in love with someone truly and wholly. I liked the concept and the romance. It was written well, but nothing that was special or original, quite simple to read.

Team BKMRK kindly sent me this book to review, and I so badly wanted to love of, but I closed this book with a sense of disappointment tinged with antipathy. However, I appear to be the black sheep, so don't let me put you off!

So, one of the things that drew me to Arrowheart was the premise. It screamed Percy Jackson meets romantic comedy, which sounds like a BEAUTIFUL concept. Although it had elements of both, it didn't deliver in the way I was hoping it would. During my read of this, I experienced moments where I felt intrigued and raced through the pages (or, technically, clicked through them because hi ebooks), but during the middle section of the book, I found myself avoiding picking Arrowheart back up once I'd put it down. My attention lagged and my mind wandered. I was hoping to be struck by the arrow of love and fall in love with the book, but that was sadly not the case.

I think one of the first things that I realised upon picking up Arrowheart - and one of the things that first began to shape my feelings for the book - was the book was written in quite a juvenile manner. The dialogue especially struck me as quite juvenile and portrayed the characters as immature. Although the dialogue did improve throughout the book, for a significant proportion of it, it felt slightly unnatural. As dialogue is one of the aspects that defines a character's personality, I did find the characters quite immature and not particularly likable. In fact, pretty much all the characters in this book felt two-dimensional and not particularly interesting. I mention this in pretty much all my reviews, but I NEED to connect to the characters.

The characters didn't stand out at all. The main character was nice enough and I liked her, but this book didn't bring her to life. She felt like words on paper and not a living, breathing girl. I like characters to feel real, tangible, when I read them. Rachel whined a lot. Marissa was an exact clone of the stereotypical pretty/popular girl - blonde, tall, gorgeous, shallow, self-centered. Benjamin was nice but quite dull, and none of the secondary characters had any noticeable personalities either.

The plot had moments that intrigued me, but those moments didn't occur as often as I hoped they would. This book is also quite short (under 400 pages), and I feel like the author tried to cram too many events into this book. There was so much happening and it all happened so quickly, especially towards the end. Before I could fully grasp what was happening we were onto the next scene - which was quite a cliffhanger - and within a couple of pages that was over. I would've liked more detail during pivotal plot moments. Everything just happened too quickly and details were lacking. I would've loved it if the Greek myths played a larger part, if the Hedoness aspect was explored more...I just felt that it didn't have enough substance.

The one thing that compelled me to keep reading this book though was the premise. I found it so fascinating, but sadly that wasn't enough to salvage this book for me.

Arrowheart sounded like a book with a fantastic story that I would fall in love with, but the lack of charisma in the characters, the underdevelopment of the world and the plot, and the juvenile writing, made this a book I struggled to finish. Arrowheart just wasn't for me.

Wow, this was such a fun read!! And it ended with a cliffhanger?? I did not expect that! Slightly messy in terms of plot and world-building, but I thought this was a refreshing contemporary take on Greek mythology.

I didn’t enjoy this book. I couldn’t get into it, the idea and the narrative felt a bit cliched.

Never judge a book by it's cover! I went into this thinking it would be a bit lighthearted with a good adventure plot. Luckily, I absolutely in the mood for the book I got instead. This was such a beautiful commentary on consent and free will, showing Rachel as one of the few Hedonesses to see what their "gift" really was. My stomach was turned as much as her was while reading it!

This was also less of an adventure and more of a resistance. This book was so dark with secret underground societies of Hedonesses running the world. It was amazingly addictive and suspenseful, the characters in danger at pretty much all times. Though there was the fact that I wasn't really sure what would happen to the characters if they were caught, it was more the boys and the world at large that I was worried for.

The ending was really great and left a big wide opening for a sequel so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Before Arrowheart, I never had, though I've been meaning to read The Song of Achilles for forever. I picked up a copy of Arrowheart at YALC after having it on my TBR for a while - I love to support fellow Wattpad writers and Rebecca is such a wonderful person on top of being a fellow Wattpader!

Arrowheart was a cute, light-hearted take on the notion of Cupid, based on the Greek God of love, Eros. Rachel Patel (it was so refreshing to read a non-white MC, especially in this type of book) is a Hedoness - a descendant of Eros - meaning she has the power to make any boy fall in love with her, but she is loathe to use her power. This was a quick, easy read and a gentle introduction to mythology for a newbie like me, and after the cliffhanger ending I'm intrigued to find out what'll happen in book two.

DNF. I got about halfway through before I gave up - it wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't gelling with me at all for some reason. It's well-written and I liked the idea of the Hedonesses, but I kind of wanted a bit more backstory and set-up. We're thrown into the action very quickly in a way that meant it felt like I was missing things - I wanted to see more of the school and her day-to-day life keeping her powers under wraps. Just not for me.

These first 5 chapters of the book were really interesting and promising! We already got to know a piece of the world and about the characters.
I have never read anything about Greek Mythology, so I found it complicated to understand everything so I think it would take me a bit to get used to the world. But otherwise I already really enjoyed it, especially Rachel as a character.

After reading the whole book, however, the Greek Mythology didn’t bother me at all and it was such a fun read!! And I did not expect it to end with such a cliffhanger! Can’t wait for the sequel!

Brilliant opening, really sets the scene for all the awfulness of the Hedonese gift and I love the unusual take on reimaginings of Cupid. Engaging main character too. I definitely want to read this one when it is released.

Such a wonderful opening that has me craving for more. I love anything that has that element of supernatural set within the real world.

I actually loved the sample of this book and I honestly can’t wait for the full book to be released on the 14th June.

This book fills my inner mythological history geek with excitement and joy that I haven’t experienced in a while in this genre, sorry it isn’t much of a review at the minute when I do purchase the full book in June I will add an update.

"In that moment my heart shatters all over again, I fall to the ground wishing I never believed Eros."

I went in to Arrowheart completely blind, i'd only seen the pretty cover on the publishers Instagram. Then I was invited to review the book through netgalley. So I thought why not give it a try.

The cover made me think I was getting a cute fluffy contemporary romance but Arrowheart turned out to be a contemporary setting with Greek mythology mixed in and oh boy did this book keep me entertained I was drawn to the characters Rachel and Ben from the get go.

There is a honesty about these two characters whether they're showing it to each other or not. What follows is a look at choices, whether you choose to love someone or your gift is what choices them to love you. Ultimately I think free will is what Rachel is searching for & to make her own decisions free of her parents and the committee.

Also please I need book two now, the last chapter and the epilogue were epic, I need to know what happens next to these characters!!

Rachel sky has written an amazing debut with great mythology and a swoon worthy romance.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for letting me review Arrowheart for my honest opinion and feedback.
