I enjoyed looking through this, although I was rather overwhelmed by the idea of making anything from it! Definitely aspirational for me!

I like the thought of making things both for myself and potentially for gifts that would care for or pamper. Kind of the gift that keeps on giving. This was a great read to help someone get started and learn more about how to care for your skin.

Would definitely look at getting this one for myself to take more time and actually get into trying out a few of the recipes.

I have avery sensitive skin and I've been using Korean skincare for years now without being really educated on the subject. This book taught us so much on the products, our skin and how to take care of it. It's a life changer.

Over the last few years, I have been trying to change how I think about health and beauty, moving to a more natural way of living.  This includes starting to make my own beauty products, which has been a bit hit and miss when it comes to my successes here.  That's why Pure Skin Care appealed to me so much, it promised plenty of natural recipes for me to try out.

The book itself is written by a licensed holistic esthetician and certified aromatherapists who has been creating natural skin care products for over two decade.  I felt that experience in Pure Skin Care, a level of knowledge that gave me confidence in the recipes I was about to try.

Pure Skin Care is broken down into sections including how to care for your skin, the tools you'll need, how to store products and techniques for creating recipes.  Then it goes onto the recipes themselves. It covers masks, steams, scrubs, moisturisers, conditioners, feet and hands, with recommendations based on your skin type and lots of tips and 'good to know's' such as why good food can equal good looks.

I really enjoyed reading it and felt I learnt something beyond the recipes, most of which seemed easy for a novice like me and - of the ones I've tried - have all worked pretty well so far.  My main problem is I can't easily access all the ingredients because of where I live so there was some internet shopping needed.  There's also the issue that, starting out, I had to buy a lot from scratch so it wasn't always cheap.

Saying that, now I have some of the ingredients, I can make more of the products I like pretty cheaply, and I am all for things not costing the earth - figuratively or literally.  I'm also for using products that do less harm, and that is definitely the case here.  I feel better using natural ingredients and was happy to find my skin didn't seem to mind either.  This book was well worth the read and is well worth buying.

I couldn't finish this book due to expiration date but I loveddddddd it!!
I love natural beauty products, so this book was perfect for me! I've been a huge fan of natural skin care since last year and I can say that this has helped me a lot.
I had(still have) acne stains and scars, went to the dermatologist and gynecologist but my skin didn't improve and I spent lots of money trying to get rid of them. So, when I discovered brands that mixed natural products with astrology and crystals, it felt like paradise. But, I still wanted to know more about the topic so I started to read books and watch videos about that.
This book was amazingggg, it gives you recipes to make anyyy beauty product with ingredients you can find at home, so you can have your own toner, scrub, cleanser, etc. natural, easy and cheap. I am going to try some of the recipes soon, I am so happy!!

Being a firm believer that the best skin care is natural, I really found myself enjoying this book. Not to mention, I honestly do not know one person who does not deal with some frustrating skin problem. With a whopping 78 recipes, there is do-it-yourself care for every skin type. The author explains which types of products are best and worst for your skin type as well! That is something that I found incredibly helpful with my combination skin. Along with making the products, the author tells you how to store the product and for how long. There is such a wealth of information stored in this book and you can really learn some valuable knowledge. This knowledge allows you to create your own magic and learn the benefits that being natural really has. Lastly, the photos are stunning and really add to Pure Skin Care!

I have been a fan of Ms. Tourles for a long time. I've been receiving her newsletter for several years. They are full of healthy recipes to feed the body as well as DIY skincare recipes. It's called "Hello Glow" I highly recommend it.
This book is perfect, I've been a fan of Aromatherapy for years, I took a class back in the late 80's. I remember coming home with a Hummingbird diffuser, it was the only type they made back then. There wasn't a lot of information out regarding Essential oils at that time but I was hooked.
One of the many things I like about this book is the way she described each oil its benefits, plus this is what I learned in my class I took, the benefits of dry brushing, many people have never heard of that and believe me it works. I dry brush every time before I get into the shower. It makes a huge difference for sure. Not only does your skin feel better it helps with your circulation and gives your body a boost as well.
I've made several skin care products and they seem expensive to get all the ingredients you need but they are cost-effective in the long run. But once you have all the things you need you'll have them on hand a little bit goes a long way.
One of the recipes that I use is her Lemon Refresher Toner, it's great. Another one I've made and use is her Rosy Red Balancing Clay Mask. These are both inexpensive to make and during the summer the Lemon Refresher Toner is a great spritzer to use during the day.
I love her facial steams as well, I save all my rose's petals so I can use them in my steams or other products. I dry them out and they keep for a long time. I do the same with my lavender blooms as well.
Needless to say, this is a great book, I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an alternative to high-cost skin care. I'll be purchasing this book for several people for Christmas, it's fun to make your own skin care items. I also recommend signing up for her great newsletter, she doesn't push high priced oils on you like some other books I've read. She has a list of Resources in the back of the book her book that is beneficial and also a list of recommended reading.
Disclosure: I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this e-galley in exchange for my honest opinion, the opinions I expressed above are my own.

This book had a lot of great information and recipes. I tried a few and they worked well, haven't used long term to notice all the claimed benefits but so far so good. The ingredients were simple to obtain, no need to order exotic or expensive ingredients for these recipes.

For a beginner this was a good start but some of the recipes in it was more complicated then I think they needed to be. Although, not to helpful for my issues I believe this book to be a good starting guide.

Several years ago I began a journey to natural at home skin care and all natural skin care products . I wanted all chemical free skin care as well as cruelty free. Tired of paying 30.00 for a tiny jar that advertises results they don't deliver I knew there was a better way. Since that time I have read various books on the subject and recipes.
This is by far the definitive book on natural skin care. It has over 70 recipes (!) that anyone can easily make at home for any skin care product.
The author has included a wide variety of recipes including Toners, masks, moisturizers, creams and balms to scrubs and night moisturizers and eye creams.
It also covers mixtures for particular medical conditions . The photographs which with each recipe are beautifully done. In all honesty I will be using this book for years to come and plan on giving it out as gifts.
Very well done for everyone no matter what your skin type or problem you will find a natural healing recipe here to use that you can make in your own kitchen,. Very well done to the author .
Thank you for the ARC of this amazing book. My opinions are my own.

If you are looking for a DIY skin care recipe book, than Pure Skin Care is for you! It is packed with 78 recipes and lots of valuable information for every skin type. From cleansers and toners to masks and lotions, there is something for everyone. I have combination skin, and I like that Tourles tells you which types of products to use and to avoid with this type of skin. I never realized that cream cleansers were the best for my skin type! She also covers normal, dry, sensitive, mature, and oily skin types as well. Each recipe has detailed instructions on how to make these natural and pure beauty products right from home. She details how to store these recipes and for how long. She also covers all the materials and tools you will need to get started and provides beautiful pictures throughout.

The second part of the book has all the recipes for cleansers, toners, masks, steams, scrubs, and moisturizers. There is also a whole chapter dedicated to hands and feet! A great resource for the all-natural beauty lover! I also really liked that there was a glossary, more resources, and recommended reading guides at the end of the book. Definitely a great source of information for attaining that healthy, natural glow without the heavy price tag. Recommended for DIY enthusiasts who enjoy making their own natural beauty products.

As someone always striving to have better skin reading this book was a delight. I have been using nontoxic skincare for a few years now, but still have very sensitive skin. I have recipes for skin care for the rest of my life. For those wanting a handbook of natural skin care this is a must have to have on your shelf.

Having suffered from eczema for many years as well as skin sensitivity, I tend to like to know what ingredients are incorporated into my beauty products, whether that be skincare or make-up. Due to not knowing how my skin will react to various hidden chemicals, I have stuck to the same brands for numerous years. Elemis has been my go-to brand for skincare essentials and has always worked like a miracle for me. Bestselling author Stephanie Tourles is a trusted specialist working to steer us all in the right direction towards less harmful products. Having being introduced to her via her excellent guide on using essential oils, not only is she an aromatherapist, she's a licensed esthetician, too. Being a fierce all-natural advocate she certainly knows her stuff! In this compilation, she shares her favourite nontoxic recipes with the world.

'Pure Skin Care' is a book that takes the burgeoning demand for all-natural skincare by the scruff of the neck and teaches us how to create our own beauty products in the comfort of our homes. With the added benefit of knowing exactly what is in each miraculous concoction, and the ability to produce our own blends much more cheaply that anything you can purchase ready made, there is no excuse for not giving this a go. Not only does she create magical mixtures, she educates us on the science of our skin and discusses other ways we can look after it (such as drinking ample amounts of water). Although the information provided is no doubt sound and solid, there is so much of it that I could see this perhaps overwhelming a beginnner or those taking their first tentative steps into the DIY beauty sphere. There is also a tendency towards large ingredient lists, and I can see this being an issue as people have less disposable income now than ever before.

Overall, there are 78 different recipes featuring all types of beauty products, including cleansers, toners, scrubs, masks, moisturisers, steams, creams, exfoliators and balms. There are preparations for products that can be used from head-to-toe and for men or women. It also covers mixtures for particular medical conditions - rosacea, acne and sun damaged skin. The photographs which complement each recipe are aesthetically pleasing, crisp and clear. I have tried many of the recipes and my skin has come up clean, clear and beautifully smooth each time. I will be working my way through the book, trying many of those recipes that strike a chord with me. This is a perfect gift for the DIY beauty lover in your life and is ideal to dip in and out of. Without a doubt, a book I will return to again and again.

Many thanks to Storey Publishing for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I received a complimentary ARC copy of Pure Skin Care: Nourishing Recipes for Vibrant Skin & Natural Beauty by Stephanie L. Tourles from NetGalley and Storey Publishing in order to read and give an honest review.

For the past ten years due to skin sensitivities I have been using more natural based cosmetics and skin care products. The past year I have taken it even more serious going right back to basics by using pure natural items to cleanse and moisturize and honestly, the timing of this book could not be more perfect.

In Pure Skin Care, Stephanie L. Tourles educates us on the science of our skin, how to care for it, giving us information on tips to care for it other than applying products externally. Pure Skin Care includes 78 recipes for all types of beauty products from cleansers, toners, scrubs, masks, moisturizers, steams, creams and balms, and features some easy recipes for every price range. Some ingredients are most likely in your pantry, others can be purchased at health food stores and even some local grocers. Tourles even gives us tips and techniques even teaching us to grow and dry our own herbs.

I tried creating some of the recipes and found them easy to follow, I was able to tailor them to my specific skin type and loved the results. I particularly liked the Balance Restorer, Light and Lively Moisturizer, Salt of the Earth Scrub, Tranquility Toner and the Lavender Protection Balm, all were fairly easy to make and have left my skin glowing!

What a lovely book! Lots of recipes for wholesome and natural skin care products, using mostly easily available ingredients. Not just facial moisturisers, scrubs, toners for different skin types, but there are also products for hands, feet, and even suncare. Can't wait to try them!
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.

I've read a lot of such books over the years. But for beginners, and people just trying to get the hang of herbal / veggie masks, it is a good purchase. One thing I'll add is that there can be a tendency to over think or over-add products in a single recipe. You just have to know your skin type and use what works - it could be as simple as sweet almond oil! No need to buy lots of powders and lemons and turmeric to get that 'magic powder'! Keep it simple.

Thanks to the publisher for the ARC.

I have been waiting for a book like this for some time!
The beginning of the book talks about different chemicals that are in store bought skin care products and the harmful effects they can have. It then goes on to explain the different skin types and shows you which of the 78 recipes featured inside are best to use for your skin.
Beautifully photographed, Tourles shows you from beginning to end the tools you will need to make and how to store your finished products.

I'm very excited to try these recipes on my sensitive skin!

Thank you to Net Galley and Storey Publishing for the advance copy!
