I wont go into detail about the story as i dont want to spoil the book, but i will say that I wouldn't normally read this kind of book but I fancied a change of genre and i can honastly say this surprised me. I enjoyed the story and i felt connected with the characters. Pleaseantly surprised and brilliantly written, a must read for sure.

8th century Sweden Erlan Aurvandil a Viking has pledged his sword to Sviggar Ivarsson, sworn enemy of the Danish King, Harold Wartooth. Princess Lilla, King Harolds daughter has fallen for Erlan. As the armies gather Erlan and Lilla must choose between their love and their county.

This book was amazing, such wonderful world building and a great knowledge of the Viking times has gone in to this book, it kept me hooked, which is a good thing as its 700+ pages!

This book, once more, made me wish that Netgalley would mark the books that are not the first in series or standalones a bit more visibly. This book was relatively hard to understand without the context of the first book and I am sure I would have enjoyed it more had I read the other one first.

As has happened to me before, actually more time than I would care to admit, I found out only after receiving it that A Sacred Storm is the second book in its series. I, sadly, feel that this has contributed to my giving it three stars rather than four (although I will revisit my rating if I manage to get a hold of a copy of the first novel in the series, A Mighty Storm).

I can understand some readers being put off by the sheer size (and weight!) of this novel, but if you are already a fan of epic fantasy then this will be nothing new to you!

As this is the first book of Theodore Brun's that I have read I wasn't sure of what to expect, but thankfully the writing is highly engaging and wonderfully engaging. So much so that I found periods of time slipping by silently as I was so engrossed in chapter after chapter of this epic tale.

I would definitely recommend A Sacred Storm - but only after you read A Mighty Storm first!

The Wanderer's epic journey continues. Facing love, loss and betrayal, the Norns have woven a uniquely twisting path for our hero. With realistic scenes of battle and torture, 8th Century Viking life jumps off the page. An exciting, fast-paced, historical book with a hint of fantasy.
