Ben Cassidy is a CSI with Sunderland City who is raising four-year old daughter Grace by herself and has moved back home with Aunt Aoife after living in Dunham. She is wrestling with the lingering psychological and physical damage from a horrific encounter with a psychopath. Jacob Tully is ex-military with experience in combat and has PTSD. He is lecturing a Digital Forensics class Ben attends.

When a local homicide involving a student is executed in a manner that Ben recognizes, it immediately causes traumatic flashbacks. There is also a parallel baddie out there who has a wife in long term care as a result of his violence against her. He is trying to raise his son to be just like him. Meanwhile, he is crafting the end to his wife's caregiver.

Author Richardson has taken on a violent subject and written her storyline from the viewpoint of the CSI's rather than detectives. Ben and Jacob are closely associated and working with the police, making for a quasi-police procedural but may also border on a psych-thriller as it bounces back and forth between both antagonists POV as often as the protagonist.

The main antagonist has a manic habit of searching, following, and spying on his next victim until he is assured of the perfect time and place where he can quietly, sadistically fulfill his fantasies.

The book begins with a prologue that grabs your attention and proceeds to feed you into Ben's story at the same time as the reader is introduced to both antagonists and Jacob. The plot holds interest but becomes more confusing and somewhat inconsistent.

The characters are not wholly fleshed and I had difficulty with Ben being a sympathetic character. The dialogue is awkward. The romance promoted between Ben and Jacob lacked any warm fuzzies. The conclusion was as expected but then left you with a catastrophic cliff-hanging twist at the end that left you scratching your head and feeling cheated.

I was granted an ebook download by the publisher through NetGalley and appreciated the opportunity to read and review. The blurb sounded interesting, albeit a little misleading, and I'll not be reading another.

4.5- This is a book that will keep the reading on the edge of their seat as they flip through the pages and discover one surprise twist after another. I really didn't know what to expect as I read this book and that was so enjoyable. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write about it. Thank you NetGalley and KA Richardson.

I had a hard time getting into this book in the beginning, but ended up enjoying it overall. I'm not sure what it was, I read books that take place in the UK quite a bit but this one had a lot of wording that stopped the flow for me. In the beginning, I was only reading a few pages before bed, so that might have been it. Some of the characters were confusing at first, but again, could have been due to how I was reading it. About half way through, I was able to read several chapters and the book started coming together better for me. I try not to predict mystery type books, but this was also easy to figure out who the killer was.

I did enjoy the characters a lot though and overall, I did like the story. I would continue reading the series to see if I enjoy it a bit more. I'd recommend giving it a try and see what you think.

I'd give this 3.5 stars out of 5, so bumped up to 4.

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

This is a clever tale of two sadistic killers. Both stories are realistic and brutal.

Ben is developing her career as a Crime Scene Investigator whilst raising her young daughter. Jacob is ex forces who lectures in Digital Forensics. Both are physically and psychologically damaged for different reasons.

I enjoyed reading a crime thriller from a different perspective rather than from the investigating detectives and look forward to the next instalment.

I loved the chemistry between Ben and Tully and the plot was great too. It is a fantastic thriller however I felt that the descriptions got a little too detailed when it wasn’t required. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the next one.

Absolutely loved this book. A total page turner. I loved the characters of Ben and Jacob and little Grace is adorable. Loved the fact that it was told from different perspectives. The book reminded so much of Karen Rose's style of writing and to me that is a winner there. I will certainly be reading the next few books in this series. Plus it is set in Sunderland home of my footie team!!!

A little fast moving in the sense that there is no build up between the main characters but an overall good thriller. I plan on going back and getting other books by this author.

Two killers in one book. I was hooked from the first page. Ben has made a new life after an awful attack which should of killed her. Eve is in a care home where her abusive husband put her. He visits her regularly and still manages to terrify her. Ben's attacker is in the same county and he is now obsessed with her as she is the one that got away. He usually leaves them dead. This book is a rollercoaster, nail biting and gut wrenching. I could not put it down.
I would like to thank the author K A Richardson, Bloodhound books and Net.galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for giving an honest review.

3.5 stars
I liked the romance between Ben and Jacob and the characters and their relationships in this thriller and crime story. The wounded hero is always an allure and Jacob has all the ingredients to be appealing. In fact, sometimes his characteristics and the things happening to him seemed too predictable and tailor made in line with the wounded hero trope and stereotypes.
This writing style is not my favorite, with too much telling, and a tendency to explaining and over describing things, which often breaks the narrative flow. Overall, there’s some dispersion, with so the many things happening in the story and with the characters.
I was also a bit annoyed with the multiple points of view – including those of the villains.
