This is the second book I have read by Karen Perry and I enjoyed it even better the the last one. The book starts with Amy rescuing Cara who is caught up in a terrorist attack. Whilst they are hiding and in danger of their lives Cara tells Amy about the secrets in her life. She never thinks that she will see or hear from Amy again once they safe. This is a story of lies, obsession and stalking. It is told in alternate chapters from Cara and Amy’s perspective. The book is tense and gripping with a superb final twist. A recommended read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

I thought this was a great story - really chilling and a bit scary! I found the first third a bit disjointed - the chapter headings say who the orator is but not the time frame and it was sometimes confusing. As I progressed through the story - the time lines become clearer as the reader knows more.
I was unable to like any of the main characters. Amy is deranged, Jeff is a bit feeble, Flynn is egocentric and Cara struck me as rather weak. She is the subject of dreadful attacks but still doesn't seem to be able to take action!
In spite of this I enjoyed the book and thoroughly recommend it.

Cara is saved from a terrorist attack by Amy who enters her life and it's all downhill from there. Cara is enticed by her ex, stuck in a marriage she isn't sure she wants to be in and a step daughter that hates her. Can Cara figure out what is going on and what Amy really wants.

This was such a good read. It's a fairly quick pace and I was able to read it in only a couple of days. The plot is clever and thrilling. The ending was quite the showdown and I really enjoyed it. I love a book that keeps me reading.

Cara is not the most likeable character as she makes a few bad decisions but you warm to her as the story develops. It's a small cast of characters but each one is well developed and well placed.

A Brilliant thriller.

I’m always a bit wary when a stranger acts overly friendly towards me so alarm bells were ringing when Amy is suddenly there to help Cara and acts like her best friend.
Amy literally drags her off the street in the midst of a terrorist attack and due to emotions running high, Cara tells her her deepest secrets.
A few weeks pass before they meet again and as Cara needs help with childcare, she asks Amy to move in.
Alarm bells were ringing for me again and I was just waiting for the problems to start. Amy is obsessed with Cara and soon is trying to take over her life.
I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to spoil it but trust me, you’ll be shouting at Cara before the end of the book to make her realise what’s happening!
This is a gripping read.
Thanks to Penguin and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Wow!!! Single white female is tame compared to this. The story is told by Cara and Amy. Both are caught up as strangers in the middle of a terrorist attack.
Cara gets away safely thinking that is the end, but to Amy it's the start of her obsession with Cara and she'll do anything to get Cara and the life she wants.
This book has it all I read late into the night as couldn't put it down.

Wow, what can I say, another fantastic read. This book kept me hooked throughout and I couldn't turn the pages on my kindle quick enough. Karen Perry's style of writing draws you in right from the start and the fluidity of the story keeps your attention right until the very end.

This book started off at a fast pace, a terror attack that brings to females together. Amy rescues Cara from the street when a Male with a knive is heading for her. In her moment of fear and sadness, Cara opens up to Amy and tells her secrets she thinks will never come to light. After both women are recused Amy beginning to get obsessed with Cara and that’s when the story really starts to heat up.
This was an enjoyable read and I liked reading the chapters from the POV of both Amy and Cara.

Cara Jameson is on her way home when she is caught up in the middle of an active terrorist attack in London. She's pulled into the safety of a nearby shop by a young girl who listens to all of Cara's troubles as they shelter from the attackers, both desperately hoping that they're safe rather than trapped.

The next day, none of it feels real. But Cara is aware she's told Amy too much, secrets that she'd been carrying for a long time, secrets that she'd never meant to tell anyone.

She plans to file the incident away in her memory but Amy keeps cropping up again in her day-to-day life. Eventually, after a childcare emergency, she ends up inviting Amy to live with her for a bit. Her husband is working away and Cara produces a radio show which means she's out early in the morning.

She's also getting rather too close to an ex from her past which means she's staying out late in the evenings, too... And she has no idea just how much Amy hates that.

Of course she has idiotically invited this woman into her home despite not knowing anything about her. She's entrusted her with her daughter. And Amy has issues.

This is not, in my opinion, a twisty book full of surprises. You can rather guess where it's going from its very beginning pages. But it is suspenseful. The tensions creeps ever upward as you turn the pages, wondering what is going to be Amy or Cara's undoing in the end. I didn't love the book - I've read a few in a similar style lately, which of course isn't this particular book's fault - but I did enjoy it.

One of those books that you have to devour in a very few sittings with an insidious plot that really gets under your skin. The storyline mirrors so many issues from random shootings in London streets to fractured family life with an ending that nothing prepares you for. Disturbingly plausible and rather sad in equal measures. Thanks to NetGalley, Penguin - Michael Joseph for an ARC in exchange for an honest unbiased review.

This is a tense psychological thriller, but didn't really grip me the way it should. The main reason is that the two main protagonists are almost equally unlikable and self serving.
I found it difficult to engage with these two, while simultaneously being gripped by the storyline. A dilemma!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

A twisted tale of complicated relationships. Dark, descriptive and enthralling. A satisfying and completely unexpected ending. Definitely worth reading

It is not often I can truthfully say ‘I did not see that coming’… but I didn’t.
The story revolves around Cara and her family. When Cara is caught up in a terrorist attack, she is saved by obsessive Amy. Trapped in a small room the two bond and share secrets but after being released, Cara realises that she may had said too much.
Cara employs Amy to live in and look after her daughter while her husband is working away and it is during this stay that Amy shows her true colours.
Some parts I found stretched belief but overall this book keptme guessing (incorrectly) right to the very end.

Imagine sharing your darkest secret with a stranger - a girl who will do anything to keep you close.

Cara and Amy meet on the evening of a terror attack in London. Cara is in the street, she freezes when an attacker is coming towards her, but Amy pulls her to safety. Hiding and waiting for the attack to be over, Cara confides in Amy about her family and her personal life. Now, with the ordeal over, Amy and Cara go their separate ways. Cara knows her secrets are safe as she will never see Amy again. Or will she?

This is a tense, fast paced, action packed, edge of your seat read. The chapters are told in alteriating chapters by Cara and Amy. It's also dark, realistic and powerful. This is a well written book. The characters are believable. The final twist I never saw coming.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Penguin UK - Michael Joseph and the author Karen Perry for my ARC in exchange for an honest review

after an illicit drink with an ex, a tipsy cara is returning home to her husband and young daughter when she stumbles into the path of a terrorist intent on killing or maiming anyone he comes across. before he can shoot, cara is pulled into a building by amy and they hide whilst the rampage continues outside. during this period cara confesses many secrets from her life believing she will never see amy again. once they believe the coast is clear the two leave the building and become separated in the aftermath of the atrocity that has occurred. cara never expects to hear from amy again however, this is not the case and so starts amy’s dark obsession with cara and her efforts to infiltrate cara’s life with far fetching effects.

i thoroughly enjoyed this book. amy is creepy and incredibly needy which makes for a dangerous sociopath.

many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Poison Bed by Karen Perry

A tense psychological thriller, with an unforeseen climax

Karen Perry’s latest thriller has a close interweaving of the lives of Cara and Amy who meeti one evening during a terrifying terrorist attack.

But Cara’s rescue by Amy is just the lead-in to an ever-increasing nightmare for Cara whose life gets more and more out of control. Perry’s handling of obsession, lust, betrayals and subsequent murders is so skilful it produces a gripping, intense thriller which kept me interested in the story and turning the pages, waiting for the next development. The identity and motivation of the Closest Friend is cunningly developed through many twist and turns.

This fascinating book will satisfy Perry’s many established readers and bring her many new ones. I look forward to reading more by the talented author.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy.

First time reading this author and I'm a fan!! (so much so that I immediately put a hold on another Perry book [book:Girl Unknown|35423930]which I just got my hands on today!!)

This is a tightly woven thriller that completely sucked me in from the first chapter.

It all starts with a terror attack in London-saved by a stranger. Hiding in fear, you share your darkest secrets and desires, thinking this is the end. But it's actually only the beginning of a different kind of nightmare...one that will make you question everything you read moving forward.

What's real, what's not? Who's the crazy one, or are they both?

Oh what a tangled web is woven here! The characters felt real, the tension was gripping, and that ending was perfection.

Highly, highly recommend!!!

My thanks to the publisher for the ARC.
