'Before Her Eyes' is global number one bestselling author Jack Jordan's fourth standalone thriller, and is one of the few books in this genre to represent the disabled, as well as using the disability or medical condition, in this case blindness, to add to the plot tension.

Naomi Hannah has been blind since birth and still lives in Balkerne Heights - the town in which she grew up. A recent divorcee, she now lives with just her guide dog Max for company but has managed to stay reasonably independent despite her disability. However, she has been experiencing suicidal thoughts for a while now. She walks out to the cliffs, her intention being to jump and end her unsatisfying life. Although she wills herself to do so she cannot seem to go through with it. She decides to walk away and try again tomorrow. Before she can make a move she stumbles upon the body of a young woman and senses that there is someone present with her. As she cannot rely on her eyesight she has carefully honed her other senses and, in effect, has heightened them, so she believes her instinct that she is not alone is accurate. Knowing she is unable to identify him, he lets her live, but not before tormenting her first. Had she been able to see would she have suffered the same fate as the young woman? The following day at work she is attacked, and when another body is found Naomi really wants to help. Initially, the police discount her as a witness due to her disability, but one detective sees past this and realises her potential in solving the horrific murders.

I thoroughly enjoyed this top-notch psychological thriller! It is a lot deeper and more complex than many I tend to read nowadays. I appreciated that the author has minorities in mind here with the inclusion of a disabled main protagonist. Mental health issues are also explored within the context of the book, looking particularly at depression and suicidal thoughts. Anything that can show the world that mental health issues are ubiquitous, happen in many people from all walks of life, and are not something to be ashamed of, has to be a positive step. The writing is sound throughout, I found the story compelling, and the characters were fantastic. The author does a great job of cultivating reader empathy towards Naomi and you really cared about what happened to her. I feel that the way the police treated her is likely how you would be treated in reality, mainly due to the lack of understanding towards the disabled. Here, it is clear the lead investigator doesn't understand that those without the use of one or more of their senses tend to find ways to heighten those they do have the use of.

All in all, an excellent read, and a great premise that is executed well. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to crime buffs!

Many thanks to Corvus for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I was immediately drawn to this novel, due to the inclusion of a character with a disability. Naomi Hannah has been blind since birth, she lives an independent life and I actually found her quite admirable and inspiring. That is until the author began to terrorise her. . .

‘Even in death she was beautiful’

The novel opens with a Psycho feel to the prologue. Psycho as in the movie, not psychotic. It SCREAMS terror and angst and you instantly know this is going to be a rip roaring read!

Naomi is out walking on the cliffs and we hear her internal thoughts as she wills herself to jump from the cliffs. Naomi is struggling with suicidal ideation and I really felt for her emotional pain. She decides tomorrow is the day and walks away! It is a heart-breaking moment and I really hoped she would not succeed with her plans.

As Naomi walks away, she is witness to the brutal murder of journalist Cassie Jennings. Cassie was walking back from her niece’s funeral when she is attacked and has her throat cut. Naomi remains unharmed in the assault and at this point we are unsure why the murderer left a living witness. Did Naomi survive because she was blind? How can she help the police identify the killer?

The police officers called to the scene DS Marcus Campbell and DI Lisa Elliott are struggling they have no DNA, no evidence and no leads. Lisa is quick to dismiss Naomi as not credible. We learn Naomi spoke two words to the killer. . . ‘Kill me’

The plot thickens when we learn that 20yrs ago, Naomi’s sister Grace’s best friend went missing. Are the current murders linked to the disappearance of Hayley Miller?

When another body is discovered, and a link established between the two victims, the pace really picks up. How did the two victims know each other? Is this what got them killed?

The town begins to turn on Naomi and question if she really is the victim she portrays herself to be. Then the media ramp up the blame game. Even I began to wonder is Naomi a victim or a manipulator?

‘I’ve been left in the dark this whole time, and all I can do is hope to survive’

The novel has a fantastic creepy ending and all I can see in my notes are the huge words THOSE LAST 3 WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the perfect summer beach read, if you’re brave enough. 5*

***Will add review to Amazon, once the novel is released***

This is only the 2nd Jack Jordan book I have read and I am hooked and want more.

Before her eyes is a captivating and gripping thriller that ticked all the right boxes.

Easy to read with some interesting twist and turns, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and am planning to seek out more Jack Jordan books.

She can't see the killer
But the killer can see her......

Naomi Hannah has been blind since birth, she grew up and lives in the claustrophobic town of Balkerne Heights, where she has learnt to live independently despite her disability, recently divorced from her husband of 15 years, Dane, she is trying to get used to life alone with just Max, her guide dog, for company, although Dane still keeps in touch and they are still friends, but Naomi is struggling and considers ending her life.  Whilst walking home one night she stumbles upon a dead body and senses that the killer is still there watching her, this frightening event forces her to re-evaluate her life and she realises she wants to live after all but, as the murder investigation begins and the body count rises, Naomi wonders why did the killer let her live and how safe is she?

Despite having all this authors other books on my kindle, this is the first one I've read, and what a belter of a book to pop my Jack Jordan cherry with, right from the prologue I was hooked.  It was a tense, edge of your seat read, which i was so engrossed in that at times i forgot to breathe and finished it in less than 24 hours.  I loved Naomi, i could never imagine what it must be like to live in a world of darkness, and also Marcus, one of the investigating officers on the case, who was so determined to uncover the truth even at the cost of his own relationship, I was willing there to be happy endings for these two lost souls and I have to admit to shedding a few tears.

The story was unique and well thought out and just when you think the case is all wrapped up, Jack Jordan hits you with a sucker punch of a twist that knocks you sideways and leaves you reeling.  I loved this book and will definitely be bumping his others up my tbr list.

I would like to thank Atlantic Books Corvus for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

Yet another outstanding psychological, thriller by Jack Jordan., but this book has a crime thriller element to it. I wasn't sure about a book being called a "sleep stealer" but I'm sure now after finishing Before Her Eyes in the early hours. A heart - in - mouth read as Naomi , who is blind , llives on her own and divorced. She can't identify a murderer that she has come into contact with, after she literally stumbles over a body in an alley. She has no clue as to the identity of the murderer. . I am not going to delve into the plot for fear of a spoiler, but this thriller was fraught with tension. . There are so many nail biting, heart pounding moments in this book which meant it had to be finished as soon as. possible., as I was desperate to know the outcome. Which brings me to the outcome! Slap,, bang, upside down,, backside ,forward. came the outcome! And after that outcome, I couldn't sleep! Jack Jordan continues to amaze and astound me with every book! Highly recommend.

I have to be totally honest and say whilst I enjoyed this book I didn’t totally love it. I found the first half of the story dragged a bit but then it picked up pace in the second half and it was a page turner. The constant description of blood spraying, dripping etc was I felt a bit over used. However just my opinion and probably necessary for the story. I have read and given 5 stars to all other books I’ve read by this author but unfortunately this one was 3.5 stars for me.

Sight is such a precious sense and this book gives an idea how frightening it must be to be blind.in dangerous situations.
A fast paced, gripping story, quite gruesome in places. but another excellent read from Jack Jordan

This is such a good book! I genuinely felt like I was almost not doing it just, devouring it by the chapter but that is because the story goes at such a pace it is hard to stop once you get started!
The concept is that Naomi, a blind woman in her 20's is desperately trying to end her life. A failed marriage to a man who wants children(she doesn't) and who pulled her back from throwing herself in front of a train, a mother who abandoned her at a bus stop aged 3 and a sister whose disappearance was never solved have cumulated into the desire to commit suicide.
However, thanks to her guide dog she is accidentally embroiled in a cat and mouse game with a potential serial killer. Her dog, Max, leads her to a body in an alleyway, the killer is still lurking and suddenly she is the only witness to a brutal crime. Traumatised by literally falling over the body and being touched by the killer, she is the target for the police, the anger of the town and standing in the shadow of her sister's disappearance once more.
A brilliant book, I cannot wait to read more by Jack Jordan, thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for letting me read this in return for an honest review.

I came across a comment about this book on the internet and thought it sounded like it would be a good read and how right that turned out to be. I have read previous books by Jack Jordan, so he is an author who’s work is known to me, but I think this is his best yet. A definite five star read from me. The main character is Naomi who has been blind since a very young age but copes well in her familiar surroundings. Strange things begin to happen to her and she starts to feel threatened and unsafe then she stumbles onto a murder scene and her life becomes in danger. Marcus is a detective who tries to keep Naomi safe while investigating the murder and battling against his superiors. There are many characters with many secrets in this story. It’s fast paced with a great style of writing which keeps you wanting more. I loved it and would highly recommend it for suspense, horror, mystery and pulse pounding moments.

Overall, this is a compelling read. Plenty of gruesome details and terrifying twists that get your pulse racing. It lost a star for me because there were a few bits that didn’t quite ring true. I really struggled with the idea that a devoted mother would leave her blind daughter alone after she had been attacked. Otherwise, it was a thoroughly enjoyable book.

I have read and loved all of this author's previous three offerings but sadly, I found this one didn't quite reach the heady heights of enjoyment that they gave me. It just didn't quite have that certain something that the others have and I didn't leave the book as satisfied as I would have wanted to. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what that was, I did guess a bit early but I wasn't wholly convinced by how things played out. Especially considering the main character's disability. Maybe I'm too harsh but I have to be honest in my reviews. That's important to me.
So Naomi has been blind since birth. When first we meet her, she is not in a very good place and is up on a cliff top contemplating ending her life. Before she can make that big decision, she stumbles across the body of a young woman and senses the presence of someone else at the scene. Unable to identify him, he lets her live but not until he has tormented her a bit. Next day, she is attacked at work and is badly cut. Then there's another body and Naomi gets embroiled into things, especially when the current cases are linked to a missing woman with a past connection to her. But the main detective, Lisa, dismisses Naomi as a witness as she believe she can not help as she is blind. But Naomi finds an ally in young, newly promoted, detective Marcus who sees through her disability and believes she can help. He is also the only one that pursues the link to the cold case.
As things start to unravel and the torment on Naomi hots up to the point of really putting her in danger, can Marcus work things out in time to both save her and catch the killer?
There really is a lot going on in the book. For me, probably a little too much, to the point that things started to get a bit muddled. There were quite a few viable suspects throughout, this number gradually being whittled down until eventually the killer was unmasked. A killer that I was pretty sure I'd guess right, given the evidence and story, but still had certain reservations about. Reservations that were never wholly satisfied as I still have one big issue with the credibility of it all.
One of the things that did impress me was the way the author handled Naomi's blindness. I was convinced of her character pretty much throughout the book, her anger and frustration, along with her gritty determination and indeed frailty were all very well portrayed. Apart from that one key thing that I can't mention here for spoilers.
Pacing wasn't quite as good as I would have preferred. It went along quite nicely for the majority of the book but I felt that it got a bit to frenetic towards the end which meant that the words started running away with themselves a bit and I had to rein myself in and re-read a few bits to ensure that I gleaned all available information. This meant that, at times, I lost the flow of what I was reading. Not enough to ruin things, just enough to be a bit annoying. I know that's mostly on me and the way I read but it doesn't usually cause me any grief.
All in all, a good solid read that although it didn't set me on fire like his other books, hasn't put me off reading more from him in the future. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I have read and loved all this author's books and whilst this isn't my favourite i did really enjoy it.
Psychological thrillers have recently become very popular and it's so hard for authors to come up with something different. The idea of a blind woman witnessing a murder is very original and worked really well .
The story was dark and creepy and just when I thought the ends were neatly tied up, BOOM, there was a twist on a twist.
Once again, well done Jack Jordan, I am eagerly awaiting your next book.

I had been eager to get my hands on this book as soon as I saw it all over social media.
Then I received an email asking if I’d like to take part in the blog tour to advertise this latest book by Jack Jordan.
Let’s just say, they didn’t have to ask me twice.

Naomi who is blind really got under my skin, in a nice way.
She had her problems and a disability; she was blind. She had a lovely loyal guide dog too.
But certain things in her life brought her down and at the beginning of the book she feels she just wants her life to be over.

The thing is, something happens where she is a witness to. She finds a body in an alley. But is that the killer still there?

She continues to have disturbing things happen to her. A knock on the door but no ones there.

Her ex plays a role as does his new partner.

I could only imagine myself without the aide of sight and things happening that I couldn’t visualise. How scary.

Then her home. That gets invaded and her furniture being changed around.
Awful.

At times this book has the creepy chill factor for me. I didn’t count the time or pages I sat and devoured every single word.

Great plot.
Great characters.
Menacing, creepy, chilling and spellbinding.

Thank you Atlantic books

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for a copy of the book.

Twists and turns aplenty...............being blind with a killer on the loose isn't good!!

If you like fast paced physiological thrillers than give this one a go, I recommend it.
Credible characters, sympathetically portrayed and just when you think you know what's going on - you don't! Absolutely excellent.

“Oh, what a tangled web Jack Jordan weaves when first he practise to deceive” and boy does he deceive in the best possible way. What a gripping read Before Her Eyes turned out to be, this book rattles along like a express train, giving the reader no time to breathe. Full of misdirection and unreliable characters I can honestly say “this is definitely the authors book yet”. Perhaps a **word of warning** from the wise (cough!) clear your schedule, lock the doors, it’s one of those books that the slightest irritation will bug the life out of you

A terrifying and atmospheric thriller that kept me on my toes the whole way through. Everything about this book was creepy, the setting, the residents, particularly the writing. Mr Jordan sets the tone from the first page and keeps the pressure up until the very last word. Full of complex characters and precise prose, I raced through this page turner, which manages to make the reader feel unsettled and uncertain throughout. Not always an easy read, but definitely a book that demands your full attention.

This book wasn't bad but it didn't blow me away either. The story was interesting but i felt it could have been ever better. I've read much better books and i don't think that i will remember this book in a few months time.

This book stands out as a hugely perceptive novel with commendable sensitivity and empathy. I was intrigued by how well the writer could "get into people's heads" and those extra touches he used (like mannerisms, thoughts and people's behaviour) which revealed excellent observational skills. Naomi Hannah lives alone - a divorcee. She is blind and relies heavily on her other senses to compensate and make sense of her dark world. It's something I knew but the stark reality of it as portrayed in the book adds a higher dimension of understanding. Immediately you are plunged into her dark world where all her senses are on high alert through touch, sound and smell. This scenario is superbly and authentically drawn. The bond with her dog Max is touching. The main plot is hugely gruesome and perfectly enacted. For the detective team unlocking the well-hidden dark secrets of the case, it is a hefty task. The Boss, Lisa is officious and the team don't get on well. Even testosterone has a turn for the worse. There are so many intriguing sub-plots in this novel. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Thank you to NetGalley and Corvus.

Wow - this was brilliant - the first I have read by this author but definitely not the last. Credible characters, sympathetically portrayed and just when you think you know what's going on - you don't! Absolutely excellent.
