Polly works for Posh! magazine spending her days writing about aristocracy, from posh babies to infamous Marquess. She has just turned 30 and is destined to hopelessly single if her previous dates are anything to go by...
will she ever find a plus one for her best friends wedding?

I literally laughed-out-loud throughout the novel Money-Coutts writes with refreshing honestly what it's really like to date in 2018 including the cringe-worthy hookups! Polly's inner thoughts are spot on. There are touching moments too and you find yourself really rooting for Polly to be happy in the end. It just missed out on the five stars because I guessed the ending! - but the antics Polly gets up to are too funny to miss, the perfect book to cheer you up on these cold gloomy nights.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ Stories for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. The plus one is about a lady called Polly. She doesn't take life too seriously and is a Bridget personality type. Can't say this was a good read but not bad either.

Sophia Money-Coutts has an absolute winner on her hands with this book. I loved the story. The humour, the love, the drama, the tension.........what more could you ask for. Plus it’s well written, the plot is excellent and the characters where just amazing and realistic. Recommend to all book lovers out there

I think the reason this book is getting a lot of hype and is so popular is the fact the author doesn’t sugar-coat the reality of dating and hook-ups.

In the real world there are no unicorns, candy-floss moments or the handsome prince riding up on his white stallion as the bluebirds twitter around the singing princess.

The reality is coarse, brutal, embarrassing and full of moments best buried in the deep recesses of our minds. Sometimes finding the perfect man or the perfect man for that moment in time means snogging, or in Polly’s case other extracurricular activities, a few frogs along the way.

Polly looks for her plus one in all the wrong places when the truth is he might be closer than she thinks, but she is too busy hobknobbing with the upper class to notice.

The Plus One is both funny and sad at the same time. The author captures the desires and hopes of Polly perfectly. She isn’t a model or an heiress, she is just a normal working girl looking for someone who loves her for who she is, and not who he would like her to be.

It’s witty, modern and often tongue-in-cheek in certain scenarios, but it is also heartfelt and full of warmth.

If you have read a lot of chick lit in your time, as I have, then there is nothing to astound you in terms of the plot with this book it is typically predictable. You know there’s going to be dramas with Polly and Jasper and you know who’s she going to inevitably end up with. However. The characters are likeable and the pacing is good so it kept me engaged and enjoying the story and it was humorous in parts. I will definitely read more from this author - a nice light hearted easy read. Thanks to Netgalley, HQ and the author for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book, it was a decent read.

Polly works at Posh, a magazine that only really publishes stories on the wealthy of society. She is sent to lots of different place to report on the bizarre and weird life of the upper classes and she is bored. She lives with her friend Joe and her best friend Lex is getting married and Polly realises she doesnt have a plus one to ask to the wedding. She meets and embarks on a relationship with a upper class man called Jasper, but things never go according to plan and Pollys life is turned upside down by revelations and declarations.

Light easy read.

A nice easy read. That would be great for holiday.
It took me a couple of chapters to really get into it but then I really enjoyed The characters were funny and likeable. The story was funny and easy going with some seriousness also. I did suspect what would happen but the did not ruin it for me. The story made me laugh and smile.

When Polly who works for Posh, a magazine that concentrated on what the latest Royals are doing, who has the most “in dog” and general gossip about who is the hottest single, gets to do an interview about Jasper a reluctant Ducal heir, she is not impressed as she really wants to concentrate on being a real journalist not shoring up her “posh” colleague or Boss. But in the end the girl who has a mutual friend from school days called Bill who is incidentally going out with Willow who is keen to settle into wedded bliss, it is she who ends up with Jasper who is known for his fleeting romances. Everything goes well until she is sorting his receipts and finds a break she wasn’t with him on his card receipt. Plus add in a visit to a sex party and her best friend’s marriage and you have a hilarious and racey tale with unexpected turns and twists.

Not my usual genre, chosen as an antidote to some of the darker books I've read lately.

Enjoyed parts of the book, and liked some of the characters (others left me cold). Reminded me of Bridget Jones, but with more raunch - fine if you like that sort of thing, cringe-making if you don't.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for my review.

A spicy read which was not what I was expecting. However it was enjoyable and had a quaint ending. A little like Bridget Jones but with a happier outcome.

This was a bit of a let down to be honest.
I was expecting so much more but it was just a really light copy of Bridget Jones.
The characters were not engaging enough and the funny moments just were not funny enough.
Not for me.

I kept seeing this book pop up online so I decided to give it a read, the synopsis is right up my street and I'm glad I did so big thanks to Netgalley for an early sneak peak!

We meet Polly Spencer whose best friend Lex is getting married and she needs a plus one! Single and nearing her thirties she's not on the lookout for 'The One' but a plus one to the wedding would do... for now!

Some of the stories Polly covers for her job as a writer for Posh! Magazine were ridiculous, the avocado one making me LOL! However one of the stories she takes on leads her to meet Jasper, Marquess of Milton who lives in a fancy castle, Jasper is constantly in the press and Polly is about to get an exclusive interview into the real Jasper and his family.

After a weekend away staying at the family castle, Polly gets to know the real Jasper behind the paparazzi cameras and she believes the press have it wrong about him and his family. Jasper takes an interest in Polly which surely can only end badly, right? Even though Polly knows all the stories and has even been told first hand of his charms by her work friend Lala. Will she fall for his romantic side?! I'll leave that for you to find out.

I loved the close relationship Polly has with her mum, how honest they were when speaking and the conversations between the two really made me laugh. It reminded me of my relationship with my own mum and the way I can speak to her like speaking to a friend. It was really nice reading some of the scenes between the two ladies.
I also liked the friendships Polly has built over the years, Lex and Bill being the closest two. I liked the fact that Sophia gives a little background information on their first meets, it really does help to bond to a character no matter how small or large their part is in the story.

Although a little predictable at times which I honestly don't care as it's nice to see where the author is going with the story, I also love when I can say 'I guessed it right!' when I finish! This is a perfect summer read for when you need a little escapism, it's funny with some heartwarming moments.

Congratulations Sophia on your debut novel, waiting patiently for your next book!

This is my first peice of writting I’ve read by Sophia Money-Coutts (apologies) but this book was right up my alley!

The story depicts an adaptation of a 21st century career woman juggling in amidst male personas, ambition and basically LIFE. We observe the up and downs many struggle on a daily basis and it was refreshing and humourous take on today’s life.

Can’t wait for what in store next!

I feel this book is a bit of a guilty pleasure, easy to pick up and put down, and doesn't require much concentration t0 read.... but I admit I enjoy those sort of books occasionally.
Reminded me of Bridget Jones

Chick-lit but not for me, I didn't 'laugh out loud' as promised, it's a very easy ready for lazing by a pool on a sunny day. I didn't feel any empathy for Polly however I did read the whole book so it clearly wasn't that bad even though there were quite a few cringeworthy parts.

I was lucky enough to nab an advanced net galley copy of The Plus One, which I was eager to read after hearing some great things about this book and I wasn’t disappeared.
In the Plus One we meet Polly ex beauty therapist now journalist for ‘Posh’ the magazine of the filthy rich, she’s been single for quite some time, living with her gay flat mat and the now her oldest friends is getting married and the other is in a committed relationship. Living her thinking about her own love life and how long it’s been since she was in a relationship,
When she is asked by her boss to interview a newly single very eligible bachelor she even has her own Cinderella imaginings, but it seems it’s not all one sided and she soon finds herself being chased.
I was genuinely pleased with this book, it has all the good things of a romantic fiction, star crossed lovers, friendship, and laughs. I was instantly drawn to the character of Polly and felt part of her life. As she experiences the highs and lows of the book I was right there with her, laughing and supporting her. I was secretly hoping for a Cinderella moment that didn’t come in the park but was more than happy with the ending. I hope that we get to see more of the relationship that ends the book in future novels as I really didn’t want the story to end there!

The debut novel from a London journalist, The Plus One is a bit like eating candy floss when you know that you should be eating salad. It is a romp very much in the style of an early Jilly Cooper novel updated for the noughties.

Polly works for a society magazine called Posh. (Think Heat magazine crossed with Tatler.) Peregrine, the editor, is always on the lookout for the next big society story but Polly is normally covering aristocratic babies and garden parties.

Polly enjoys her life and things are ticking over nicely. She has a large circle of friends but no significant other so never has a plus one to take to weddings or parties. When best friend Lex announces her wedding the pressure is on to find a “plus one” to go with her.

It’s an easy if predictable read but the characters are fun so its a good way to while away a sunny afternoon.
