THE PLUS ONE is one of these books that should be on everyone’s reading list. It has an enjoyable and captivating plot, a cast of colorful and engaging characters, and a likable and funny heroine. I laughed a lot and I couldn’t get enough of Polly’s adventures.

The protagonist of the novel is Polly. She is a journalist working for Posh, a magazine that focuses on the English royalties, their pets, their children, and their weird quirks, so she finds herself going to orgies attended by politicians, dukes, and princes, organizing photoshoots involving five hundred avocados, and trying Russian detox treatments all for the sake of an article. She also finds herself mixing with lords, marquess, and sheiks, all obsessed with their animals (mostly dogs, horses, and chickens). On the personal side, Polly is worried about her mother who has been on her own since her husband died twenty years earlier. Her two best friends are with people she doesn’t really like and one of them is getting married in a few months. Tired of being just “Polly” on wedding invitations, Polly hopes that this time she will find her plus one, her Mr Willoughby (her idea of romance is the love story between Marianne and Mr. Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility). This novel made me laugh not only for the weird situations Polly get herself in, but also for the personality of the protagonist. She is down-to-heart, realistic, and loyal. She is entertaining and witty and I wished she was my friend.

I like the author’s writing style, flawless and clear, which, together with the compelling and refreshing plot, made it almost impossible for me to put it down (if it wasn’t for my job, I would have read this in less than a day). I am already looking forward to whatever Sophia Money-Coutts writes next, but, in the meantime, I would like to thank HQ and Joe Thomas for providing me with a proof of this immersive, brilliant, and sexy novel.

“I thought about the countless weddings I’d been to in the past couple of years. Lace dress after lace dress (since these days everyone wanted to look as demure as Kate Middleton on her wedding day), fistfuls of confetti outside the church, a race back to the reception for ninety-four glasses of champagne and three canapes…”

Polly has just turned 30 and her best friend is getting married – but she’s tired of never having a “plus one” to her friends’ weddings. She spends her days writing about labradors and Royal babies for London society magazine Posh!, which is how she ends up meeting the playboy castle-owning Marquess of Milton, Jasper.

What follows is an entertaining journey through the ups-and-downs of Polly’s personal life. Will she fall for Jasper? Will she manage to pull off her best friend’s hen party without tears? Can she write yet another article about gold plated bathrooms? And most importantly, will she have a plus one to the wedding? Although the ending felt a little rushed – or at least not quite as fleshed out as the rest of the novel – The Plus One was a funny (at times laugh-out-loud) breezy summer weekend read.

I enjoyed this book, and I liked that it wasn't as predictable as i originally thought it was going to be. The main character, Polly, I felt was really relateable and funny. I did find that at times I got a little bored. I really didn't like the relationship between Polly and her best friend, it just didn't seem genuine so I didn't quite believe it. Overall though I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to friends. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Brilliant, funny, sad at times. Will Polly ever find her life partner? Her job at Posh magazine enters into the world of celebrities, could one of the men she meet be "the one"? Excellent holiday /wet day reading, hard to put down, curl up on the sofa and lose yourself in Polly's world.

This book is brilliant, I loved the humour, romance and the all the characters. Polly is single, not overly bothered by this however she would like a man, In comes the rich and handsome Jasper, who can finally be that plus one to her best friends wedding. This is seems well and dandy but can Jasper be the man she need or the naughty boy he reputation gives him.
I love a book that can spring on you different emotions, while I laughed so hard at parts I was also on the brink of tears when reading parts with Polly and her mum.
This most definitely is one of my favourite books this year

"The Plus One [n] informal a person who accompanies an invited person to a social function or a reminder of being single, alone and absolutely plus none"
I love when you find a book that you can't put down and this is one. I related to Polly right from the start when she couldn't remember her work pc password after the festive break (me everytime after being away from work for more than a day ha!).
The first chapter or so reminded me slightly of Bridget Jones, an obvious comparison, single 30year old female journalist, but that's not a bad thing (who doesn't love Bridget!) and as I got more into the book they thoughts disappeared and I was fully invested in the life of Polly and indeed her friends Bill, Joe, Lex, Lala, Legs, her mum and even Bertie the dog.
Not wanting to give too much away about the book I knew there would be a plot twist with Polly and the rich, handsome Jasper and it didn't disappoint.
One of the stand out quotes in the book, for me, was Susan, Polly's mum telling her "Never sacrifice anything. The right person will only add to your life, he won't take anything away from it" a sentiment I think everybody should bear in mind.
A true romcom with a little sass here and there makes this a perfect read anytime, anywhere. I want to read more instalments of Polly's life and her friends lives and I look forward to reading more from Sophia Money-Coutts.

Thank you NetGalley and HQ for the arc.

A laugh out loud story which whilst it might be a little predictable in enjoyable and fun to read. A nice escapist read for a world which is full of doom and gloom. It manages to focus on family values and maybe appreciating just what you have. Enjoyable holiday read

The Plus One by Sophia Money-Coutts a four-star read that will fizzle. I like a good girlie read, the drama and funnies, and this one on the surface does all that, but it does miss some pop. Polly made me chuckle at several different points in the story, but then she also made me rolls my eyes. I feel like if you are single you will love this book as Polly will make you chuckle at things you do yourself and make you realise dating is hard and you do need to laugh at life at times. Polly was good but the rest of the characters were just as much a part of the story and they each played their own part telling their story, some I liked more than others. I will admit reading Polly interact with her mum, made me give mine a call and make sure she knows how much I love her. If you are after a great summer read this is the one for you.

This book is a true romcom it has very serious issues and then very silly ones, but the beauty is the writer switches through them all quite seemlessy.
The whole book revolves around young woman called Polly who shares a flat, way too expensive to rent on your own, with a guy called Joe, who hardly seems to be there. She also works for a Posh magazine were the editor called Peregrine, asks her to write meaningless articles about frivolous stuff
Until she has to interview Jasper A marquis no less. She goes to his family home where everyone is just doing their own stuff, very biazzare to a girl brought up by normal parents. But she wasn't there for fun she had to write this serious piece which she did.
Little did she know she was now going to be persude by one of the country's most well known bachelors
So was Polly going to play the doting girlfriend or was she going to have her heart broken .......
You will have to read the book to find out

Sweet, funny, romantic and a little risqué in places....a perfect summer read. I devoured this in one sitting. When Polly is sent to interview aristocrat Jasper for ‘Posh’ magazine, little does she realise that she is going to fall head over heels with him. Add in an orgy, a hen weekend and a wedding then you have the recipe for a great read.

I really liked the synopsis of The Plus One but for me if fell a little flat. There were some brilliant one liners and humorous moments that made me laugh loudly and some emotionally charged heart-felt moments. I did enjoy the humour I liked Polly, I just didn't connect with her.
Personally I liked - Polly's personality
The funny lines and humorous moments
The flow of the story

I did not enjoy - The pace.
The 'it's been done so many times before' feeling. This isn't always an issue for me but the competition in this area (Natural comparison to Bridget Jones) is very high and while this was ok it didn't reach the level of some others.
Forgettable - It did not make a lasting impression

In conclusion, the humour and emotion were well delivered and if you are looking for a chick lit to take to the beach this summer for a pleasant, no thinking required, story then this could be the ideal book for you. If you are looking for another Bridget then this probably isn't the book for you.

Try as I might, I couldn't get into this book. To be fair, this probably isn't my normal genre, but I was frustrated by this in the end as there were glimpses of promise which seemed to be bypassed in a rush to the finish.

In particular, whilst I liked some of the settings, I felt like the author didn't provide enough detail on anything, particularly on character, scene or setting development, with the result that I found myself without an investment in Polly's story or future. This is encapsulated in the slightly strange ending, when the love interest throughout the book is suddenly ditched (with fair reason), but for a character who had played an intermittent role in the book.

Overall, if this is your usual genre and if you want a very light read, I'd recommend it - but I remained exasperated at the end!

Polly is unlucky in love. Follow her as she meets the man of her dreams (or so she thinks), arranges a hilarious hen weekend and watches her best friend get married. Will she ever have a plus one?!
A really great read. Thoroughly recommend.

An amusing chick-lit (somewhat) about the girl without the steady boyfriend when all her friends are getting married. She defines herself as a failure as she has neither a long-term partner/romance, nor a ring.

Such a shame. Playing on the insecurities of the 30ish woman who should be in full upward movement in their careers, or at least, not worrying about rings and babies. A genre/storyline that I am beginning to dislike as it reinforces the wrong message.

That said. The writing is competent and the stories clearly culled from the author's own gossip experience in her own career as a journalist. enough humour and silliness to compensate the faults.

I chose this book as I liked the idea of it. The title drew my attention to it. I am sorry, but this book is not my type of book. I like more of a story and likeable engaging characters.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

I really liked the idea of this book. Polly is a 30 year old journalist for a magazine called Posh and is watching all her friends get married around her. She starts dating one of her interview subjects and everything seems perfect. I didn't like the way their relationship was written, Polly seems to be just going along with it and wasn't particularly interested in any of the men that she encountered. It makes her come off as a very weak character for a lead. The plot was predictable and not overly enjoyable.

The search for love and the happy ever after is never a smooth journey, and for society journalist Polly the road is getter longer with more pot holes.
Polly’s search for her Plus One puts her into some funny situations and the story made me chuckle in parts. However I struggled to be convinced with her relationship with Jasper and with some of the decisions made.
A light hearted summer read.

A good summer read. A little predictable, I knew how it would end from early on but this didn't stop me enjoying it. The main character was relatable, the secondary characters were Good, could have been more fleshed out and rounded. Some funny scenes, a solid rom com novel.

A real laugh out loud heart warming read to dip in and out of without getting lost. Polly was hilarious and I could really relate to her. A well deserved ending.

Thank you get gallery for letting me have an early release copy, I've never read this author but something about the description made me want to read it. The whole book didn't take me very long at all, the twist in the book brilliant, the writing flowed and so did the story. Hoping the author will b writhing again soon can't wait.
