I whipped through this in a day as, as always with Paula Daly’s novels, it’s the epitome of ‘page turner’. A really gripping story and rooted in the need for an ordinary woman to take on extraordinary circumstances, it was really excellent.

Having said this I have knocked off a half as I felt the last few lines were a bit corny! Otherwise highly recommended.

You can always rely on Paula Daly to keep your attention all the way through a book with her intricate plots which you have to try and unravel, which is a challenge for us who love a good psychological thriller.

As recommended as always.

I have read a few books by Paula Daly and have really enjoyed them all. So I was really looking forward to reading ‘Open your eyes’. The blurb sounded great . Whilst this was a genre I really enjoy this book just fell a bit flat for me. I guessed quite early on who the culprit was and I just read through the book to get to the end.

I've loved Day's other books so I was excited to pick this one up but I was sadly disappointed when the killer's identity was revealed it was just too unbelievable and the ending really rushed.

Thank-you Corgi & Netgalley for sending me a copy in exchange for an open & honest review.

I struggled to get into Open Your Eyes. It started off well but I felt it was a little unbelievable and I felt I could not finish it. Sorry this book was not for me.

Although I read this wonderful book last year, I realised I had omitted to review it. I hasten to rectify that!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

On the whole, I really enjoyed this book. I love Paula Daly and while this book didn't hit the same note as some of her earlier work, it was an enjoyable read and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen. It wasn't entirely believable but it was exciting and suspenseful and well written.

I have to say before I start this review, that Paula Daly is one of my favourite authors. I was over the moon to get a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for a review, as I know I won’t be disappointed!!

Wow what a start, I nearly fell off my chair!!

It started off as a normal day. It’s Leon’s birthday and his wife Jane and their 2 young children are going to Leon’s mother’s house. They are in the car ready to leave when Leon asks for some beer and for her to lock the garage door. She is glad to leave the car as their neighbour Lawrence is morning about their cat messing in their garden!!

When she returns to the car, Leon reverses into Lawrence’s wall and collapses onto the steering wheel. Jane thinks it’s either a stroke or a heart attack.

Leon has had a brain injury and is in a coma. Who would have wanted to hurt an established author who has published several crime stories.

Jane has to look after Leon and her children and try to be the breadwinner of the family, but she is finding out secrets about Leon that will effect them all. What was Leon up to?

This is a very hard book to put down, Paula Daly writes in a very compassionate way about what the brain injury is like for the victim and the relatives.

Loved the way cut throat industry of writing and the desperation to have a book published is described. It definitely opened my eyes and I will gladly keep reading you’re great books rather than try writing one. Leave the experts to their work so to speak!!

Loved the ending. I kept on guessing till the last page and you blew me away as usual.

Please don’t make me wait too long for you’re next book!!

Love Paula Daly, always look forward to another one of her books and this didn't disappoint...

Basically, Jane's husband Leon is attacked on their driveway and the couple's two kids are in the car, Jane finds her husband in driver’s seat. Leon is taken to hospital in a coma and in the meantime, Jane tries to figure out what happened and why he was attacked.

She soon finds out her husband has kept many secrets from her.

It makes you think about just how well do we know those closest to us, do we ever really know anyone at all?

A great novel full of suspense, fab little thriller and another great read from Paula! Hurry up with the next one!!!

Another compelling read from Paula Daly. I've enjoyed her other books was looking forward to this one. It didn't disappoint. The characters are believable and I kept forgetting that they were fictional. The story had me hooked right from the start. I did guess the ending but not until quite a long way into the book.

This book pulled me in from the first few pages. A husband Leon shot in the head with a nail gun and suddenly collapsing, the wife Jane, subsequently finding herself in a financial ruin along with an amnesiac violent husband, finds her world collapsing. The entire scenario has the vividness of a world which has changed in a split second. And nobody knows why!!

My first book by Paula Daly, and the book was a heck of a ride for most parts. Jane's normal world spun out of control when post surgery, her husband could not remember her and wanted his ex. I loved the shock and the desperation. The secrets which then started rolling made Jane's life a living terror with unstable neighbors, their weird son, a lost cat, a felon's threat, the behind the scenes scam.

What I especially found enthralling was the main character Leon was an author before the trauma, who was accused of plagiarism, then came deliberate negative reviews on Amazon to bring down an author's career, the bots and false websites. Everything described was so close to real life happenings. I loved this bit of reality.

Then there were my niggles, the prose did not feel complete there were a few barely discernable plot holes and a rushed explanation.

But on the whole, the author kept me hopping on my toes, longing to know the perp, so I can endorse this book as one of the enjoyable reads in the thriller genre.

4.5 stars
Paula Daly never disappoints. Although all her books are very different, they are always well written, suspenseful, with original plot lines and believable characters. The latest one - Open Your Eyes - is no exception. In fact, it's a breath of fresh air amongst numerous cliche domestic thrillers I've read recently.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Transworld Publishers for the ARC.

Thankyou to NetGalley, Random House UK, Transworld Publishing, Corgi and Paula Daly for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of Open Your Eyes.
The first thing that struck me about this book was the sense of realism that the storyline exudes. I thought the plot was well thought out and fast paced. I could not put this one down until after I turned the last page.
Would definitely recommend this book.

Ive been a huge fan of Paula Daly for a while and boy oh boy does she know how to write a good thriller!

The thing the most struck me about Open Your Eyes was how realistic it seemed. This is a story that seemed like it could actually happen, to anyone at any time which was a little freaky to realise and will make me look over my shoulders when on my drive way in future! The little, everyday, disputes that the author includes at the beginning were a brilliantly addition to the narrative as they helped add to the tension and the aforementioned real feel of the book. I’ve had these arguements with my husband and similar ones, regarding parking, with our neighbours. It did make me chuckle to read about how Jane and Leon dealt with things.

I warmed to Jane from the start and she was my favourite character in the book. She seemed to be a woman with a big heart who obvious loves her kids and tries to be nice to her neighbours.when possible. The reader is privy to her personal thought in the book and they, along with her observations are often hilarious which helps bring some light relief to the book.

This was a gripping read for me which I couldn’t put down. I found myself sneaking away from the kids, desperate to read a few more pages. There are numerous twists and turns throughout the book which I didn’t guess and kept me on my toes. The tantalising way everything is revealed is brilliantly done and I was on the edge of my seat trying to find out where the story was going to go.

Paula Daly is the author of six books and I’m proud to say I’ve read them all. She is fast becoming one of my favourite authors as when you read one of her books you knowing you are going to get a fantastic read!

Huge thanks to Anne Cater for inviting me onto the blog tour and to Transworld books for my copy of this book. If you like realistic, gripping thrillers that you can’t put fodo you’ll love this book.

Leon & Jane have a good life. They are happily married, have two young children & as Leon is a successful author they are comfortable financially. The only thing that would make things complete for Jane would be to get her own work published. The book starts as the family are setting off to Leon's mother's house for Leon's birthday. After an altercation with a neighbour Jane goes into the house to get something & when she come out she finds Leon slumped over the wheel unconscious.

In the hospital scans reveal that Leon has been shot with a nail gun & two nails are embedded in his brain! It is touch & go whether Leon will live, but when he finally comes round he is not the man he was.

Jane discovers there were a lot of things she didn't know about. She didn't know who had done this to him. She didn't know Leon had debts. She didn't know how to cope with the volatile angry man who came back from hospital & she didn't know how she was going to cope.

I loved Jane! She stuck by Leon, she tried to keep her family together & somehow didn't completely fall apart!

This was a brilliant book that kept me guessing. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

A well-written fabulous new page-turner from an author whose books never fail to grip you by the larynx and apply increasing pressure throughout, exactly what Grip-lit should be.

This is a stand-alone domestic Noir thriller about Jane, a would-be author, married to Leon, the couple have 2 young children and everything is going fine apart from the books Jane writes being constantly rejected for publication. She knows how hard it is to break into publishing, she is a creative writing tutor and her husband has several successful published books under his belt already.

One fateful day everything she knows is about to come crashing down around her ears, when suddenly Leon is attacked, right outside their own home and whilst he is in a deep coma in hospital she has to try and keep things at home on an even keel. But how can she ever feel safe where such a dreadful thing happened?

The story is gripping on two levels, there is the deep mystery of who did this to Leon and why, and there is the very realistic and moving story of a woman trying to cope with a massive change in her personal circumstances. Add some very authentic and quirky characters, lots of different threats and fears and you have the perfect recipe for a real page turner.

Open Your Eyes starts in a dramatic way when Jane's husband, Leon is brutally attacked whilst on the driveway of their home. That this attack has a catastrophic effect on Jane, Leon and their family goes without saying, however, how they cope with the fall-out of this event is the focus of this clever psychological suspense story.

Compelling and addictive in all the right places, Open Your Eyes is a clever story of deceit and lies and of a huge secret which threatens to tear the family apart. Not only is Jane having to cope with the emotional after effects of Leon's attack, but she must also deal with something quite deadly in her personal life which only starts to be uncovered as the story progresses.

There is no doubt at all that this author can do domestic noir very, very well. Her writing is always crisp and clear with never a word or a nuance wasted, and as she plunges the reader directly into the very heart of family life, the tension is so palpable it hurts to imagine what is going to happen next. From the trauma unit of Fazakerly hospital, to the inside of HMP Liverpool, there is a never moment when this story doesn't work and draw you into the darkness that becomes Jane's world.

I started to read Open Your Eyes at 2 'o' clock on a sunny afternoon in the garden and didn't look up, except to make cups of restorative tea, until the story, with its fabulous conclusion, was finished some 6 hours later.

Without doubt, one of my favourites reads this summer.
