I have realised an error in leaving this book unread for so long. It took me over a year to finally read this. I can honestly say that I've found another author whose books I can read as Hidden Lives was very good and will certainly read more from this author.

There are 2 different narratives in the story. One about Sadie in the early 1930s and her great niece Rose in the early 1970s. The life of Sadie in her part and how Rose is trying to trace Sadie. Is she alive or dead? Both timelines are interesting and hold your attention. Then the book turns sinister and it's very well written.

There are lots of books by Judith Lennox that I will try next.

I’m such a fan of a dual timeline book. A lovely mix of time periods with characters I really rooted for. My first Judith Lennox and certainly not my last.

A true master story teller, Judith Lennox has written another fabulous tale of life and love and everything in between. Rose’s life takes a sudden and surprising turn from the path she thought she was following, and she is left to pick up the pieces. At the same time, she also discovers that she has a great aunt that she knew nothing about; and that she has inherited what was originally aunt’s house to her. This is the story of Rose and her great aunt Sadie, both strong and independent women. Rose sets out to find out exactly where Sadie went and what happened to her and why she has only just discovered her very existence. I love the author’s descriptive writing, which really took me back to my childhood in 1970s Britain. So much was familiar! And also the descriptions of life in the 1930s, fascinating! A great tale, with a fascinating storyline, which kept me intrigued right to the end. Highly recommended!
