I think this was decent enough but it took a really long time to get going. It was an interesting concept in our over-sharing, constantly digitally hooked up society but felt a little under-developed. The main issue was that I didn't really like either of the main characters and their parental bond with their child did not feel terribly convincing. Because of this, the novel lacked the same human impact as Station Eleven and didn't quite leave up to comparison with other post-apocalyptic thrillers which I have enjoyed. It seemed to have a heavy helping of 'dark and twisty psychological thriller' in the vein of Gone Girl and while it was probably on the higher quality end of those, it still felt slightly over-done. I don't think I will re-read this but it was all right.

Being honest I struggled to finish this book. I found the main protagonists to be annoying and unlikable and the exaggerated side effects of the feed. I also found it very hard to believe that the entire population would let themselves become so helpless.

In the future - not that far in the future - the internet has morphed into The Feed. Through an implant, everyone is linked to news, peoples feeds, messages, emotions as well as chemical adjustments to keep their body at the optimum health and many more automatic functions. This is accessed in front of their eyes in some way, no device is needed. Better still you can get automatic backups (if you have enough money) so if you die you can just be downloaded into a synthetic body & continue. It all sounds wonderful until one day the US president is assassinated by a man who has been taken over - by whom? The world slowly collapses with people being taken over & going on killing sprees. We meet Tom & Kate six years later in a post apocalypic world where they are barely surviving. They are terrified of having their minds taken over, of running out of fuel, of strangers.....the world is a scary place.

This is a very complicated book which meanders back and forth between the post apocalyptic world and various points in the past. I must confess to not understanding all of the details about The Feed and its downfall but I very much liked the concept. It really wasn't that far fetched.

I am not sure that the book lived up to the idea. The rambling back and forth and between characters was slightly chaotic and I did get lost on occasion. There are complicated relationships with the past - particularly Tom's relationship with his brother which was actually a complication too far. A character Mark was introduced which the story could have coped well without. There was a lack of structure throughout.

The end of this book was quite rushed. As the end approached I thought that it would end on a cliffhanger and the story would continue in a second book. However, the author chose not to do this and consequently the ending seemed quite rushed. I wasn't totally satisfied that all the ends were tied up with everything explained.

I loved the idea of this book but the reality was rather chaotic and didn't quite live up to my expectations.

I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley

I didn’t become engrossed in this book in the way I like to be. If something is set in the future for me to enjoy it I have to be able and to want to put myself in the future with the characters but this book didn’t pull me in.

Fantastic novel from Nick. Easily believable premise with “the feed” becoming such an integral part of people’s lives. Really enjoyed the message of hope at the end.

I really wasn't sure about this one as I found it confusing to read at first. But stick with It!
Recommended for any fan of this genre. Thought provoking and kept me gripped throughout.

This was an interesting read. The idea of the feed and how it worked kept me reading. I think this would make a good film or TVs series. I hope there are more books to come. I would definitely read a series of books about this.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

I wasn't sure about this one at first. The descriptions of the feed are really confusing and disconcerting (purposefully so I think to really underline it's insidious distractions). Once I got used to that it's a fairly typical post apocalyptic tale really through the middle of the book with an interesting twist at the end. All in all, interesting, topical and thought provoking. I look forward to book two.

I thought I’d give this a go as I sometimes like post-apocalyptic books. This one was good and it’s set in a world where people no longer talk to each other, all communication is through The Feed.
At first in the book we see how life is in this world of The Feed, then it all goes wrong. The world collapses, everyone is forced off-line and people are ‘taken’ in their sleep. Their minds are taken over and they are lost.
A few years on and we are with Kate and Tom, living on a farm with a group of survivors and during an attack their daughter is taken.
It’s a gripping story and you find yourself whipping through the pages and the ending was very clever. There’s quite a strong moral undertone to ‘The Feed’, in this world people are kept on ‘files’ and even after they are dead their memories can be accessed. It does make you think that maybe one day that could be reality for us....
This is a gripping and thought-provoking read.
Thanks to Headline and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
