What a start to this book! Evie, on her wedding day, stands on a cliff and apparently throws herself off. Why? Did she commit suicide? Was she pushed? Her body is not found, apparently swept out to sea and her best friend Rebecca and husband Richard are looking for the answers, but it seems that Rebecca knows more than she is admitting to. The book is narrated mainly by Evie and also by Rebecca, going back to events past and present which make you realise that there are lot of hidden secrets in their lives. This book has it all, murder, betrayal, love and intrigue. Tension builds as these secrets are revealed with numerous twists and turns with a completely unexpected ending. This is one of my favourite books, i couldn’t put it down. A must read!
Thanks to NetGalley and Headline for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

The Night She Died kept me guessing from the first to last page. Filled with mystery and memories, and opening with a real shocker of a scene (a bride jumps to her death on her wedding day, and her best friend seems to know much more about it than she's letting on), I found myself completely hooked.

Now, there are some parts in this story where you may have to suspend your disblief for a little, but it's an entertaining, intriguing read so I think it's well worth it. The present-day story is mainly told from Rebecca's perspective, who is dealing with the aftermath of Evie's death and trying to comfort her husband Richard, but there are also a lot of flashbacks to Evie's childhood and teenage years which slow unwrap the lead up to the wedding-day drama. I loved the sense of unease within its pages that come from not knowing who's telling the whole truth, and there's plenty of betrayal which makes for interesting reading, all the way through to the satisfying ending.

On her own wedding night, beautiful and complicated Evie White leaps off a cliff to her death.

What drove her to commit this terrible act? It's left to her best friend and her husband to unravel the sinister mystery.

Following a twisted trail of clues leading to Evie's darkest secrets, they begin to realize they never knew the real Evie at all.

Yet another winner from Jenny Blackhurst. It's her fourth book and once again delivers a twisty and turny domestic suspense thriller. She is one of those authors where you know you are guaranteed a good read.

Thanks to Netgalley and Headline publishers for the opportunity to preview this good read in exchange for this honest review.

It’s a well constructed thriller that tells the tale of a bride who throws herself off a cliff on her wedding day and how her husband and best friend come to terms with the tragedy.

It moves from past to present which can be a tad irritating, but, all in all a good read.

Solid 3*

Intriguing storyline. Why would someone take their own life on what is supposed to be the happiest day of your life?
I enjoyed this book and found the characters interesting.

Another fantastic book by Jenny Blackhurst which keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout desperate to know what went so drastically wrong that the lead character felt suicide was the only way out.

The book begins with the lead character jumping off a cliff on the evening of her wedding. Her best friend, Rebecca, and her new husband are devastated but it seems Rebecca knows more than she is letting on. Told, as many books are nowadays, both in past and present and from different characters points of view we build up a picture of the characters lives and how they came to be where there are.

As I said this is a fantastic book and I thoroughly recommend it. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of the book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

The Night She Died is the first book I’ve read by Jenny blackhurst and I found it a book that got better and better the more you read.
Evie and Rebecca are the best of friends for years and years, whilst at uni Rebecca gives up Richard so Evie can have him, years later on the eve of Evie’s wedding she jumps to her death off a cliff but nothing is ever quite as it seems. This was an intriguing read that I enjoyed, I can’t say I liked all the characters all of the time but that in itself made it better. There are a lot of twists and turns and revelations along the way and this makes for a read you don’t want to put down. The storyline is told from Rebecca in the present and Evie in the past perspectives and although I usually don’t like timelines that bounce around I found it did work for this book.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Headline for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Evie and Rebecca are best friends there is nothing they don’t share, There is nowhere they go without the other being there or knowing about. There are no lovers that are not discussed and shared. Except when there is!
This fantastic novel by Jenny Blackhurst is a great read. The reader is taken along a journey convinced they know the final destination, only to realise that they are completely wrong. I could not put this book down it kept me hooked right till the final word.

It can be very frustrating when an author holds all the secrets in a book. But when you trust the writer; she has three awesome novels prior to this latest thriller you have all the time in the world to enjoy her writing.
There is a plethora of books that fill this genre but Jenny has made it her own from the outset. Indeed the clever part is that this plot takes us way beyond those psychological stories that adorn many bookshops.
Indeed I would suggest her writing is in a class of its own and her plot led fiction resonates skill, surprises and suspense.
I’ve read that some feel the characters are disappointing and play to stereotypes but in my opinion this is a misreading of the story as a whole.
Evelyn is a complex young woman; treated as a child despite what her own eyes and experience has shown her about her parents. Naturally bright she is clever and carries more baggage than the old mail trains. Her relationships are skewed and her first love is something remarkable that she never wants to lose. Others are attracted to her while some have a jealous rage of envy they hate her and would seek to destroy her or the happiness she holds.
The key relationships we are presented with are Evie and Rebecca, Evie and Richard and Evie and her childhood sweetheart.
The book starts at the end and then is told in flashback through the eyes of Rebecca and Evie. The start is the wedding day of Richard and Evie and the big reveal is that she has done a Reggie Perrin; however although her body isn’t found initially a few witnesses come forward to say they saw her fall into the sea. However, did she jump or was she pushed.
Rebecca knows more we sense and then realise much more, feeling she conspired with Evie to fake her death but something has gone wrong.
So will you read on and find out the mystery? Follow the back story through twists and turns and learn to love and then distrust each character as each new reveal is shared.
I’m glad I read this book it cements the author into a special place in my heart and my book appreciating mind.
It is the story of friendship and unrequited love. Poor parenting and the impact it can have on their kids.
Ultimately it is about relationships and life. Can we finally blame Evie for the choices she made? Do we side with Camilla, Rebecca or her Dad?
We may move between all three points of view as her story is revealed. Her choices were not always her own, but the real choice remains are you going to read this book. So glad I did; when I read it next it will be even better!

A psychological thriller that you must read.

It all starts with Evie jumping off a cliff on her wedding day !! What on earth would make a newly wed jump to her death during her wedding reception ? What secrets are there hiding away ?

The story jumps from the aftermath of Evie’s cliff jump, with her husband and best friend trying to find out why Evie jumped, to the past, where we see the events that actually started everything.

A great book with some brilliant characters and a great storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Plenty of twists and turns to keep your interest and keep you guessing until the final reveal. A must read for all fans of psychological thrillers.

Thank you to Headline and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.

Having thoroughly enjoyed Jenny Blackhurst's previous books, I was eager to dive right into this one, but unfortunately it just didn't have the same grip or appeal as her others. There was definitely something missing for me. I found the story very cliched, the characters stereotypical and the vague interest I had in discovering the outcome of the novel, completely dissolved about a third of the way through. Aspects of the book started to really annoy me - long drawn out flashbacks that main character Evie has repeatedly had me rolling my eyes more than a few times. Then there was the grammatical errors that hopefully will be rectified in the final copy. There were also a few continuity issues, and i'm afraid I found most of the characters irritating and lacking in maturity - nothing loses my interest quicker!

I remember reading the synopsis and being intrigued by the promising premise, but ultimately my excitement wasn't justified. It's not a story that offers up anything to distinguish it from the plethora of other crime thrillers out there. Essentially, it has no unique selling point as those well versed in business terminology would say.

Many thanks to Headline for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I am a huge fan of Jenny Blackhurst’s books. Each one is dark, twisty and compelling and all of them are brilliant stand-alone psychological thrillers. This one is no different. Jenny Blackhurst has done it again and written a novel of huge commercial appeal, a page turning book club read and one which I finished in 2 sittings. If I were a boy I'd shout "back of the net!"

The Night She Died is a clever story which takes the reader on a very uncomfortable journey to discover why the beautiful and popular Evie committed suicide on her wedding night. It's a story of class divides, personality differences, obsession, friendship and revenge. The book soon turns sinister as questions are asked: Did Evie Jump or was she pushed?

This story is told through flashbacks via Evie and her best friend Rebecca from the moment they meet at University to the moment she jumps to her death on her wedding night.

With so many twists and turns I was completely captivated by the main characters and trying to work out what was going on. This intrigue certainly kept me turning the pages to the very end, unable to put the book down.

This book has Jenny's usual humour, sense of unique narrative and vivid imagery that picks you up and sweeps you away on a journey. The Night She Died is a compelling story of obsession, secrets, love and betrayal and I would definitely recommend it. You will guess the deliberate hooks and twists along the way but I bet you won't guess the ending.
Well done Jenny.
Thank you to Headline and NetGalley for my pre-publication copy.
