I have spent the last few hours glued to my kindle as I finished this book.

It tells the story of Rebecca and Evie and how Evie’s family and friends cope in the aftermath of Evie’s suicide on her wedding night.

This story is told through Rebecca, Evie and Richard (Evie’s husband) prospective.

What drives a woman to kill herself on the happiest day of her life?

Read this book to discover the truth.

On the evening of her wedding to Richard and whilst the guests are partying, Evie sneaks away from the cekebrations and throws herself from the top of a cliff. The Husband, family and guests are in shock but someone knows more than they are saying and have their own hidden agenda.
I found the first half of the book to be quite slow but it redeemed itself in the second half . I did guess the major twist about halfway through the book but there's always that element of am I right or wrong? I thought the book was very cleverly written and the ends were neatly tied up. A satisfying read with a very satisfying ending.

Once again Jenny has proved her worth as a best selling author.

The Night She Died led me down so many different paths. Each time I thought I’d sussed what had happened that fateful night, I discovered I was completely wrong! The main characters in this cleverly written tale were well thought out with hidden depths, especially the best friend.

I was immediately intrigued after reading the first chapter and found myself sneaking away with my kindle to gain further progress. This is yet another of Jenny’s books I have no hesitation in recommending!

The blurb for this book sounded great and I was really looking forward to reading it . However I just found it an ok read . I absolutely love Psychological thrillers but unfortunately this one didn’t hit the spot for me . It started off great but as the story progressed it got a bit far fetched at times. At times I found the narrative confusing as it kept switching from past to present . A great ending though and one which I was not expecting .

This was a really good book, the unexpected twist at the end surprised me. I enjoyed the way the chapters were set out and how the characters were written. I would recommend and will be looking for more books by this author.

This was one of those books you pick up and don't put down till you are finished with short yet action packed chapters, I read it in one night. A gripping start about a bride jumping to her death on her wedding day leavening her husband and best friend inconsolable. The plot is told through two narratives, Evie and her best friend Rebecca going back and forward in the past and present. Normally this can confuse me and I tire easy of the book however this was written so well by the author that I knew where we were at all times. Jenny Blackhurst has a way of wiring that makes the reader feeling highly emotive toward her character, at times I really liked a character and then a twist would happen and I would be suspicious again. Jenny is definitely becoming a thriller writer that others should watch out for.

On her wedding night, Evie leaps to her death from a cliff, leaving husband, Richard, and best friend, Rebecca to figure out why. So begins a dark and twisted psychological thriller, the story alternating between Evie's past narrative from Rebecca's story told in the present. There are hints that Rebecca knows more than she is initially letting on. There are a lot of twists and turns in this plot before we find out what really happened.

I was totally engrossed in this book - read it in the space of a day! Would definitely recommend.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy.

Loved this book.

Dark, a good storyline complete with plenty of twists in the tale. This had me engrossed. I was eager to see how it all came together at the finish yet didn’t want the book to end!

My first time reading something by Jenny Blackhurst but I’m already looking forward to reading her other books.

4.5 stars

The story opens with Evie standing at the top of a cliff after just getting married to Richard, suddenly she launches herself over the edge into the sea below, leaving her new husband, her best friend and all the guests wondering why she would want to kill herself on the happiest day of her life?  When they cant find a body an investigation ensues with everyone being questioned, Rebecca seems to know more than anyone else and is keeping quiet about it.

Rebecca and Evie met in unfortunate circumstances and became best friends, they are complete polar opposites with regard to their upbringing but are inseparable and Rebecca would have done anything for Evie, although it appears that Evie had some secrets of her own, how well did these two really know each other?

I am a massive fan of this authors work and this latest one is no exception, I love how the story is told over two timelines, Evie in the past and Rebecca in the present, it unearths a great deal about Evie's younger years, telling us how she comes to be in the situation she is, in the present day.  It's a book full of twists and just when you think you've worked out where it's going next the author sends you in a new direction completely.  It's a very tense read that is full of lies and betrayal and, as with her other books, Jenny has a great way of hitting you with that sucker punch of a twist when you least expect it, pure genius! Can't wait for the next book.

I would like to thank Headline and Netgalley for the approval and will post my review on Amazon  and Goodreads.

After an initial promising start, unfortunately this story petered out and was a bit predictable in the end.

An absolute superb psychology thriller that is so tightly written, with not a single word wasted. A cliffhanger at the end of almost every chapter makes the book impossible to put down.
The book opens on Evie and Richard’s wedding day. Why does Evie jump off a cliff on what should be the happiest day of her life?
The rest of the book is getting to the bottom of the truth of what lead up to moment. It is narrated mainly by Evie and her next friend, Rebecca. It switches between the narrators and goes back and forth in time in the most seamless of ways that shows the skills of Jenny as an author. Just when I thought I had the plot sorted, something else would arise to make me change me mind.
Jenny is fast becoming one of my favourite authors, having read her debut, How I Lost You, The Foster Child and now The Night I Died, all of which I have given a well-deserved 5/5 rating! I have still yet to read Before I Let You In - I will add this to my list of must reads!
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great read! It starts from the off as intriguing and you need answers! The storyline kept me guessing throughout the book and I read it very quickly indeed. I would recommend this read.

I have read far fewer psychological thrillers in 2018 than previous years and those that I have chosen have been of a high quality with the successful authors using a premise which is a little out of the ordinary. That is exactly what Jenny Blackhurst has done in The Night She Died as she builds on her outstanding success of her previous books in this genre.
Picture the scene of lovely wedding between a happy couple. Move to the next frame and you see a woman in her wedding dress looking over the bay and then she is gone. Below the clifftop she stood on are rocks so the outcome doesn’t look great. And sure enough after that there is no trace of Evie, no body and no one knows quite why, or do they?
Evie White is the bride who disappears, she leaves no note and so her heartbroken groom is left with nothing except unanswered questions. Evie’s best friend is Rebecca and it is obvious to the reader that she knows something, but what it is she is keeping quiet about.
The book is told in two narratives, the past by Evie going back to her childhood to explain the woman she became, and the present, by Rebecca. Rebecca is propping up the groom who became a widower before he had any chance to enjoy his marriage. Unsurprisingly he isn’t coping too well especially as the police are trying to unravel the mystery of Evie’s apparent suicide which inevitably means that Richard finds out about the aspects of Evie’s life that she had kept hidden from him. It probably won’t surprise you to be told that both women are soon revealed to be what could be considered ‘complex characters.’
For those readers who love a tense and imaginative foray, this will be a book that you’ll enjoy and fortunately the author keeps the magic and the surprises coming from the first to the very last page. If I was going to be picky I’d probably state that I’m not sure that the police would expand quite so much energy on a suicide even if they did suspect foul play at the outset but if a book is well written and engaging then I’m prepared to overlook such quibbles.
Jenny Blackhurst hasn’t just come up with a good premise here she follows it through by writing appealing characters. Admittedly both women are complex but there is something appealing about them both and they are real. Most of us have met both an Evie and a Rebecca in our lives and so the author’s obvious investment in her characters pays off. I cared about them both even while trying to work out what had happened to cause Evie to throw herself off the cliff.
The timing is also impeccable. For me the joy of reading a psychological thriller is that hook that keeps you turning the pages. I tend to read this kind of novel faster than other types of books and the author has the format down to a tee. The short chapters the alternating time periods and narrators works so well to keep me turning the pages to find out the next piece of information and has me constantly changing my mind about what is relevant to the plot and what is not.
I'd like to thank the publishers Headline for allowing me to read an advance review copy of The Night She Died, and to Jenny Blackhurst for providing me with a compulsive read!

I really liked this book, it took me a couple of chapters to get into to put the characters into place and understand the twists at the beginning, but then I was gripped and really enjoyed reading it. Loved how it showed the past and the present. Loved the twists throughout, I had sort of guessed the end but it didn't spoil it because I really wanted to read it all to see if I was right. Loved it recommend to everyone

This is one of those stories where I thought I had it all figured out, only to change my mind about a dozen times throughout the book as Jenny Blackhurst deftly creates a sinister tale of love, obsession and deceit.

On the night of her wedding day, Evie White jumps off a cliff to her death. Her new husband, Richard, and best friend, Rebecca, are devastated. But what would prompt Evie to do something so drastic on what is supposed to be the best day of her life?

Through chapters set in the past, we get a glimpse into Evie’s life. A life of the rich and privileged but also one with an absent mother and an overprotective father. Evie has secrets and is adept at portraying the kind of person she’s supposed to be depending on the circumstances she finds herself in. So how well did Richard and Rebecca really know her?

As Rebecca and Richard try to deal with the aftermath of Evie’s death, it becomes quite clear Rebecca isn’t all she seems either. It looks like she may be harbouring secrets of her own, things she might know but isn’t saying. Meanwhile, as more details about that night surface, police officers are wondering if maybe Evie wasn’t pushed. Is Richard a suspect?

I don’t want to say anything else as I’m way too worried I’ll give something away. Suffice to say The Night She Died is an incredibly compelling and addictive psychological thriller that I devoured in one sitting. I found myself sympathising with some characters and eying others suspiciously. With a devilish, twist-y and brilliantly executed plot, this is one heck of a page turner and it comes with a most delicious sting in its tail.

I’d go as far as to say I think this is Jenny Blackhurst’s best one yet and I absolutely can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

I loved this book. I devoured every single page. The story had me hooked from the start.
The main characters Evie and Rebecca I liked them then I didn't, I was like this changing my mind continuously even after I finished the book.
This book is full of intrigue, murder or was there? Love and betrayal. I like this style of writing where each chapter is given to either of the main characters. Each chapter was either in the present or the past and we learn more about the main characters and their back stories.
This story is twisted, surprising, full of tension and so many secrets.
Jenny Blackhurst has done it again!!!!!
The ending was a shock and I was rooting for Evie from the beginning .
A really good read. A fantastic psychological thriller. THIS IS A MUST READ!!!!!!!
I would like to thank the author Jenny Blackhurst, Headline and Net.galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for giving an honest review.

A quiet Saturday night at home and I started and finished this book. It was such a fast read and it was over before I knew it. The story had me hooked from the start, the characters although not always likeable had me intrigued and needing to find out more. I loved the style of the book with it jumping from the present to the past as we learn more about the characters and why things were happening now.

The book begins with a new bride Evie standing on the top of a cliff and jumping off. What could make a woman do this on what should be the happiest day of her life? As the story unfolds we start to find out more about her life as well those of her new husband Richard and her best friend Rebecca. . I loved putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. The ending was great.

Thanks to Headline and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

I enjoyed this book. I was gripped from the start and wanted to find out what happened. There was plenty of action packed in and strong characters. The reason that I have given it 3 stars is that it was too long. I found myself wanting to get to the end to find out if what I suspected was correct. If the book had been a bit shorter I would have enjoyed it more.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

From the very beginning of this book I was pulled into the action. What on earth would cause a woman to throw herself from a cliff on her wedding night. The idea of the runaway bride is hardly a new one, but even by those standards, to kill yourself seems a little ... well, drastic. What follows this shocking opening is a slow unraveling of the events which precede and follow that fateful night, and the story is twisted, surprising and full of so many secrets that you won't know quite who to trust.

What I liked most about this book is the way in which the author developed the central characters of Evie and Rebecca. They are best friends and yet so contrasting in personality and background that you know they shouldn't work. Evie is from a very well to do family but, as the author takes us, from Evie's perspective, from her childhood right up to the present day, you come to realise that money cannot buy you happiness. Evie is a tortured soul but it takes time to find out why. In some respects I liked Evie, there being many qualities about her which were endearing and honourable. There were also times I wasn't quite so keen, her actions questionable. But I always understood her. She was a very complex character who if I am honest, I'm still not entirely sure I know how I feel about.

Rebecca is an entirely different character, almost dwarfed by Evie's presence and far too accommodating to all Evie's wants and needs over her own. It is clear from the start of the book that she knows more about Evie's decision to end her life than she is letting on, but as to what, you will have to read to find out as the secrets are all slowly exposed by the two women's stories. There is the feeling of desperation on Rebecca's behalf and I found myself on many occasions wishing she would be more forthright and stand up for herself but I could still warm to her. Jenny Blackhurst has made her as complex as Evie but in a much more subtle way and it was fun to watch her character grow and change before your eyes.

The story itself is surprising and full of tension and all the tangles that you might expect from a young girls as they grow up and learn the truth about the meaning of love, family and friendship. There was one element of the book which perhaps didn't come as a big of a surprise as it should have but certainly there are so many questions which arose as I was reading, anyone of which could have made Evie do what she did. And the final revelation. Tell that's a good 'un and no mistake. I loved the slow build of the story towards that final reveal, the way in which you could feel that there was something not quite right. And the obsessive nature of both Evie and Rebecca was built up perfectly, leading us to that inevitable conclusion. If there was only one person I truly felt for at the end, it was Evie's husband Richard, caught in the crossfire of so many lies.

If you are looking a great psychological thriller, built around friendship and love, and with an air of obsession cloaked around it then definitely pick up this book. You won't regret it.
