The Night She Died begins with an arresting image: a young woman in her wedding dress stands on a cliff top... then hurls herself down to the sea and jagged rocks below. What on earth could have compelled newlywed Evelyn White to do such a terrible thing? New husband Richard is distraught, as is best friend Rebecca, even if the latter clearly knows a little bit more than she’s letting on.

This was an enjoyable read, if not an unputdownable one. The mystery of what has happened to Evie to lead her to this point in her life is compelling and the narrative moves from past (Evie’s childhood) to more recent past (Evie’s young adulthood) to present (the aftermath of her death for Rebecca and Richard, plus a seemingly ever-present police officer who pops up in unlikely places) in order to unravel this. The timelines did confuse me a bit on occasion.

I did guess the reasons for certain things. To be honest it couldn’t have been anything else. And a few things jarred, particularly near the end. (I probably missed something, but where on earth did that envelope come from?)

It’s a well constructed plot though and I did like the character of Evie - I thought all the characters were well drawn and overall it was a very good read.

On her wedding night, beautiful and complicated Evie White, leaps off a cliff to her death. Just what drove her to do this terrible act?

Evie and Rebecca were best friends. The story jumps back to Evie's past events and with Rebecca in the present. Evie marries Richard and then jumps from a cliff at the reception. Rebecca then becomes Richards crutch as he tries to comes to terms with his new wife's actions. We learn about Evie's past and the events leading up to the wedding. Just what was the terrible thing that made Evie jump from the cliff that night?

Fasten your seatbelt, this is a bumpy roller coaster read. It's full of twists, anger, passion and jealousy. Jenny Blackhurst certainly knows how to write a good psychological thriller, how to hook you in and keep you turning the pages. Each new book is better than the previous one. The book is so tense, I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. Throughout this book, you k ow there is going to be more revealed, which just builds up,the tension and mystery. There is also the final sting in the tail at the end of Jenny's books. A fantastic read.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Headline and the author Jenny Blackhurst for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what a fabulous book! Filled with insight, intrigue, and twists that took me on an emotional journey as I empathised with characters.
I would give more than 5 stars to The Night She Died if I could.
I will be sure to read all Jenny Blackhurst's books.

Ooo, this was a bit of a twisty turny ride, all the way to the end. We first meet our characters at a wedding where, shortly after the ceremony, the bride, Evie, jumps off a nearby cliff. Her husband, Richard, and best friend, Rebecca, are baffled as to why. Things move on and Rebecca is trying to help Richard cope in the present. Meanwhile, we are witness to flashbacks from the trio's past. How they all met at university, and how the dynamics between them changed along the way. Back in the present and things start to get a little weird as more is unearthed around what Evie did. It soon becomes apparent that maybe things aren't what they seem... or are they?
To be honest, whilst I found this book to be mostly compelling reading, I was a bit jarred by all the to-ing and fro-ing that went on. I am not sure why as usually this doesn't bother me but maybe this time, the author did not quite manage to make it all seamless for me. Yes, there was a lot of key moments from the past as the present really was dependent on what had gone before, but it just didn't quite all flow as I would have liked it to have. Either that or I got a bit lost in the sheer convoluted tangle that it all turned out to be.
All that said, it did eventually all come together nicely at the end, albeit a tad on the predictable side - maybe I read too many books but I did see a couple of things coming a mile off and that maybe did mar my enjoyment a little. Can't really fault the author for that though, so I haven't.
The characters themselves were all very well drawn and acted within their own storylines very well. I'm being deliberately vague so as not to include spoilers but I would really love to give examples of some of the shenanigans and tribulations that they went through and how well the did that but, I can't so you'll just have to trust me on that point. Needless to say that the majority were a pretty dysfunctional bunch in many ways; delightfully so!
All in all, apart from the comment re the flowing, a good solid read which kept me rapt throughout and left me satisfied at the end. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

A brilliant, heart in your mouth fantastic read. Full of emotion, intrigue, suspense and twists and turns.

A young bride jumps from a cliff on her wedding day, her distraught family and friends left wondering why, what secrets was she hiding and does her best friend even know her at all.

My 3rd read by Jenny Blackhurst and each one is simply brilliant.

I’ll look forward to the next.

What a book. I loved it and couldn't put it down.
It was a slightly different read to what I normally enjoy as I like twists early on, whereas this book took it's time and weaved it's storyline - it had me hooked. I loved the way every few chapters the story was swapping people,

I found this a really addictive read was so very keen to continue with the story, I just had to keep reading! I loved the way the twists unfolded and I was heard saying 'no' and 'really'!

Fabulous book and rated 5 of 5 from me and one I will definitely recommend!

Brilliant read.

I have read Jenny Blackhurst before and enjoyed all her novels. ‘The Night She Died’ did not disappoint.

Evie is seen jumping from a cliff at her wedding reception, still in her wedding gown. It is deemed a suicide but her husband, Richard, wants to know why and he starts to ask questions to try and understand. Rebecca, Evie’s best friend, is supporting Richard who seems unable to function some days.

The plot is clever and twisted. Following the unravelling of the story through present day and past from both Evie’s and Rebecca’s viewpoints it becomes clear that what lies on the surface is not necessarily what feelings are running deep.

I was intrigued and totally engrossed all the way through.

Thank you to NetGalley, Headline and Jenny Blackhurst for my ARC in return for my honest review.

Excellent Read. Highly recommended.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very clever psychological thriller and very well thought out. The story is about two friends who meet at university and how their relationship developes until the night Evie dies. Which is her wedding night and the groom was her friends boyfriend before he met Evie and falls for her.
A tale of twists and turns and an emotion roller coaster until the end.
Recommended.

The Night she Died by Jenny Blackhurst was a psychological thriller with twists and turns. A bride jumps off a cliff at her wedding leaving her husband and best friend traumatised and trying to work out why.
I didn't like the way this book jumped from past to present and unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous books by this author.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Headline for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

I have read all Jenny's book and enjoyed them but this one just didn't 'grab me' and I was disappointed.

I found it to be a bit disjointed and I couldn't gel with the characters, it just seemed to me to be too much flitting about.

Personally I found it to be a chore to finish this and I did a lot of skim reading.

My Review: I love Jenny Blackhurst’s books. Each one, in my opinion, is twisty, dark and a brilliant stand-alone psychological thriller.

The Night She Died is yet another superb story which takes the reader on a very uncomfortable and bumpy journey trying to discover why the beautiful and popular Evie committed suicide on her wedding night.

This story is told through flashbacks via Evie and her best friend Becky from the moment they met at University to the moment she jumped to her death on her wedding night.

With so many twists and turns I was completely captivated by the main characters and trying to work out what, why, when and who kept me turning the pages unable to put the book down.

With a splash of the author’s dark humour, The Night She Died is a compelling story of obsession, secrets, love and betrayal.

Wow what a fantastic read. We learn about Evie and Rebecca - total opposites who find the most fantastic friendship with each other. But Evie throws herself off a cliff on her wedding day. Why? How much does Rebecca know? After all she’s Evie’s best friend. Did Evie tell her everything ...?

I enjoyed it but not as much as I had hoped, I didn't particularly like the narrative swapping about so much although I do appreciate that it was marked with the names of the characters. The book got off to a good start but then it seemed to slow down and t0 me it became quite irritating. When people say
that a book is not true to life I always say well that's fiction for you but this certainly wasn't at all believable, however I did enjoy the ending.

Very cleverly written. Do you know your best friend? There's a mixture of emotions to go through with this one. I loved the twist at the end, pure genius! Very well thought through plot, had me hanging on!!

I warmed to Evie and quite liked her others I didn’t trust so much as kne we expect with this sort of story
I guessed te context asp does most will as more an more becomes clear as we read the points of views and realise the plot
I was invested a lot in the love story off James and Evie and anxious for them throughout
This isn’t an excellent story or pativualky original but is worth a read as it’s an easy enjoyable read,as always by Jenny ,just wasn’t blown away

Jenny Blackhurst has well and truly nailed it with her new psychological thriller The Night She Died. Absolutely brilliant!

The story mainly flicks between Evie in the past and events leading up to her death and Rebecca her best friend in the present. As soon as I read of a bride jumping to her death on her wedding day, well of course I had to know more and boy, the author not disappoint.

Evie I really took to early on in the book. To a certain extent she is a woman who has it all but as we get to know her better, we see her world slowly begin to unravel. I could only imagine how hard it must be for Rebecca to lose her best friend. Being best friends though, it is obvious that she knows a little bit more than everyone else and I couldn't wait to find out just what that was.

This is such a tense read. I felt like I was on edge all the way through it. I just had this sense that the story was building up to something that would more than likely rock me. I wanted to race through the pages yet devour them at the same time in case I missed any clues. As usual I was not prepared for the shocks and twists that came. It just took the whole story to a new level for me and one that I didn't want to come down from.

The Night She Died is a breath taking story that really did leave me breathless. I felt like I had been holding my breath for so long until the revelations started coming. I was so absorbed in the story that I think even if there was chaos going on around me I wouldn't have taken any notice as I had to reach the end of this book no matter what. The author is someone I can rely on in delivering an ending that sends the readers heart racing and very much leaves a lasting impression. Another great read and an absolute must for lovers of psychological thrillers.
