A lovely story that follows Georgina from when she finishes school and comes to present day where Georgina bumps back into her childhood sweetheart.

A brilliant heartwarming story where Georgina is acknowledging events from her past alongside the constant family battles she is experiencing due to the lack of direction her life appears to be taking to her family.

I enjoyed this book which made me laugh throughout with the predicaments that Georgina frequently seemed to find herself. Don't You Forget About Me is a superb story that demonstrates how sometimes people don't always take the route in life that may appear the most obvious and how events can play a massive part in the direction we then take as a result.

This was my first book by Mhairi McFarlane and I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read more!

I loved this witty, zingy and spirited romance!

As well as being funny and wise, "Don't You Forget About Me" also contained some serious messages about dealing with difficult relationships, self-esteem and standing up for the things in which you believe.

Going into this book I have to admit that I was expecting a cute and fluffy romance but I found that this was also a thoughtful and very real experience. There was romance in this book, however, there was also so much more.

If you want a compulsively readable book that will make you sad, laugh and reflect, I'd highly recommend this novel.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from HarperCollins UK/ HarperFiction via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Loved it!! McFarlane has such a lovely way of writing, she really gets inside the mind of her characters and fleshes them out so well that you can't help but feel they are real. Such a great romantic story with twists no one expects coming.

What a rollercoaster of a book. one minute I was laughing and the next I was crying. I was completely in awe of the strength of a character that Georgina was, that she was resilient and fearless and i just wish that i had an ounce of her strength. A fantastic story of love, miscommunication and finding out the truth all those years later.

Three and a half star rating

A teenage romance goes wrong, then 12 years later Georgina finds herself working as a barmaid for the very man who broke her heart all those years ago. At first I didn’t really like this book, but then found that, actually I did and from then on it was like a different story and totally engaging as the various characters sprang to life. There were plenty of funny moments, far more than the romantic ones. It was also refreshing to use a northern city, rather than the usual London. So plenty to laugh out loud at and a few times when a tissue might be needed.

I've enjoyed Mhairi McFarlane books before, enough to want to read another when the opportunity present itself! 'Don't You Forget About Me,' doesn't disappoint. It is lighthearted and amusing at times, with a touch of romance and 'will they, won't they' along the way!
Back in her school days, Lucas and Georgina became an item - and then Georgina's world fell apart, their relationship ended and the couple parted. Now, unexpectedly, Lucas is back in Georgina's life...in his new position as her boss. Georgina is not sure Lucas even remembers who she is, and if he does, then he certainly has no idea as to why they parted ways so suddenly all those years ago. So, should Georgina suffer in silence, or should she find a way to tell him so that he finally knows that it was not his fault!
A lovely read, sure to be popular with fans of chicklet, and I give it 4 stars.

A more modern, more feminist, Richard Curtis style rom-com in a book: excellent cast of characters, solid pacing with laughs and cringe moments, plus a nice bunch of lessons in how to treat people too. For fans of The Flat Share, Queenie and Eleanor Oliphant.
Also - i definitely want a bright pink fake fur coat now :)
I'd definitely consider Mhairi McFarlane if i want a feel good read with brains and humour in the future.

I love a good rom-com in book form so I couldn’t wait to get stuck into Mhairi McFarlane’s latest book, Don’t You Forget About Me. I find that one of McFarlane’s biggest strengths as a writer is creating characters who feel like your best mates and/or your worst enemies. With these sorts of novels (and in all books, but particularly within this genre for me) I find if you aren’t invested in the characters the story can drag- who cares about the plot if it revolves around someone who you couldn’t care less about? Thankfully, this story was full of people I either loved or completely detested and that made the reading experience really fun and just a bit infuriating at times.
Georgina is a gorgeous character and the fact she is surrounded by so many IDIOTS caused me to curse aloud at times. I found myself speed reading passages desperate to see how situations with her ex-boyfriend and stepfather would be resolved, wanting to reach into the book and give them a thump on the head on her behalf.
I was hooked on the plot from the first chapter (which is set 12 years in the past) desperate to understand what had happened and how it had impacted Georgina’s life since. The story unravels really well and explores really important topics such as grief, peer pressure and societal expectations. Most importantly I like that the story concentrates on Georgina needing to find happiness within herself, and her love story was additional to her personal development. She stays strong in the face of abhorrent treatment and extreme gaslighting from her ex and her stepfather and fights back time and time again without giving in.
Amongst the serious topics within the book is a lot of humour, and the scenes between her and the McCarthy brothers in the pub she works in are some of my favourite in the book. Not to mention that fact that her blossoming connection with Lucas is ridiculously romantic and sexy.
Don’t You Forget About Me is a fantastic chick-lit novel. Hilariously funny, full of emotion and fantastically romantic, I loved Georgina from the first page to the last.

I loved Georgina, I thought she was funny, normal, realistic, determined to be optimistic...quite the inspiration, in fact!
But under the bright, bubbly exterior is an unexpected depth, that we get to know as the book goes on....
It’s a real tearjerker, for every reason; happiness, sadness, and laughter, a great read, I felt I was with Georgina all the way!
I really liked her...I wish she was MY friend.....

Loved it, loved it, loved it. Mhairi McFarlane is a genius and one of the few writers who can make me weep for hours on end with both laughter and empathy. The Thor stripper scene is so perfect that I had to go and lie down in a darkened room to calm down after reading it because I was laughing so hard.

Don't You Forget About Me follows 30 year old Georgina Horspool, who has just split with her boyfriend after finding him in flagrante with his PA, and to make matters worse, works for the worst Italian restaurant and the nastiest boss in town. Mercifully sacked, she is set up for a new job by her brother-in-law at a refurbished pub called 'The Wicker'.

Just after starting at the pub she realises that the pub owner's brother (and co-owner) is her high-school sweetheart, Lucas, with whom we gather things did not end well, although this is not explained until much later on in the book.

Mhairi McFarlane has a real talent for writing books that touch on difficult subjects, but doing so with humour and a poignancy that makes you connect with the protagonist, and want the best possible ending for them. This novel touches on both physical and emotional abuse, but manages to do so with dark humour and a relentless sense of optimism.

So called 'Chick lit' gets a bad reputation, but when done well, women's fiction can be sublime and Mhairi seems to have figured out exactly how to do it well. The only gripe that I had was that Lucas supposedly didn't recognise Georgina, which seemed a little unlikely as they had been so tight around 15 years ago - people you're *that* into don't tend to change so much that you don't remember them when they're stood in front of you, with exactly the same name. That is sort of touched upon later, but I still thought it was a little odd.

That aside, this is another great, funny and touching book, that encourages young women everywhere to stand up for themselves and not take any nonsense - especially not from the men in their lives!

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and I am so grateful for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

Firstly, you can probably tell that I loved it from my rating but it isn't enough. This book spoke to me on so many levels! It was funny and romantic of course, but the deeper meaning behind every chapter hit me hard. The characters were amazing and completely human with all there flaws attached. Georgina and Lucas were just a match made! The not feeling good enough and the blindly living through life really spoke to me. The last chapter is me right now. Starting again. Not letting your past take away the one life we have. It was warm and cosy and I hate that I finished it so quickly! What a brilliant book.

I absolutely adored this book. So much so, I also purchased a paperback copy!
Don’t You Forget About Me is absolutely hysterical. It feels like a more modern Bridget Jones - with more female empowerment.
And, that ending. I was gearing up to be SO DISAPPOINTED and then the most perfect thing happens that I actually cried!
I totally connected to Georgia - I think we've all felt that hopelessness of not knowing what we should be doing - and I have already recommended it to several other bloggers who have devoured it in one sitting!

I usually love this author and was so looking forward to reading her latest book but I just couldn't get into it at all. I just didn't get the characters nor the storyline and found myself more skim reading than actually reading it.

Ultimately this is a story about learning from past mistakes and moving on. As such it has a number of positive messages and some well drawn characters. Superior chick-lit.

I enjoyed this book which felt a bit more grown up than some easy reading chick lit books. The characters were interesting and the themes were more engaging.

Thanks for the opportunity to review it

Thank you to NetGalley for a review copy of this novel

Thank you to Mhairi McFarlane for this novel. I must admit that it did take me a few chapters to get into the story, but once I did the emotions of happiness and sadness came thick and fast. Georgina, Lucas, their family and friends all came to life and I found myself desperately wanting to know what happened next.

Definitely a five star book.

I very much enjoyed this book. There is depth to this story, I found it both funny and poignant. I was sorry when it finished as I wanted to stay in the lives of Georgina and all her ensemble for a while longer. I will be seeking all of the other books written by this author.

Mhairi Mcfarlane is a brilliant talent who is able to give her readers real heartfelt stories as well as romance and laughs.

I knew from the synopsis that Don't You Forget About Me was a book right up my street!

Losing a job and a boyfriend on the same day is rotten luck but running into an old flame (first freaking love!!!) can't be a bad thing...unless of course, he can't remember who the heck you are!

Joining Georgina on this journey is a pleasure, she is a well rounded, honest character with flaws, and watching her grow in confidence and heart was lovely to read.

Full of hilarious scenes, cringe inducing moments and of course heartfelt fluff we all need - Mhairi at her finest 😍
