A great overview of the history of Scottish clans and tartans, providing a clear guide to many of the most famous families and designs. Great for those who may be looking into their family history.

Found this very interesting and liked that it provided picture of each Tartan, I learnt that my family Tartan is Innes (when I had been led to believe it was MacDougal)

Clans and Tartans by The Scottish Tartan Authority is a great book to learn more about the beginnings of tartan and has a list of the most common tartans with the crest badge, motto history of where that tartan began and a colour picture of the sample.

The book also has a huge listing of clans family surnames and which tartan you would wear.

I found this a really intersting book. It was good to learn more about the background of tartans. It wold be great if you wanted to learn more about your Scottish background and heritage.

Thanks to Netgalley, The Scottish Tartan Authority and Collins Reference for the book. ( My review is my own opinion)

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for a review copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion in any way.
This book is exactly as to be expected, a short but concise history of Scottish Clans and Tartans. Not all tartans are included (due to constrains with permissions which are entirely understandable given the sensitivity of the subject, and constrains with book length) but what is presented here gives you a clear idea of the thought, care and pride the Clans of Scotland put into their Tartans.
The layout is simple to follow, going through Clans in alphabetical order, giving some history and then showing the pattern of their Tartan (or one of). I definitely feel I have gained a deeper appreciation of the significance of Scotlands heritage and national dress, and highly recommend this to any who have an interest in Scottish history.

If you have Scottish heritage, this book gives a great insight to the Clans and Tartans of many.

The contents include The History of Tartan, Clan of Tartans and Histories, Clan and Family Names and in depth sources of further information to help you delve further into your Scottish heritage.

Also included with many Clan names is the Crest Badge, Motto and Gaelic name. This is a very interesting book and as I had recently travelled to Scotland and visited many Castles and listened to informative talks at some of them, I found this book a great companion t the other information and books that I have added to my family library.

Thanks to NetGalley and Collins Reference, Collins for the opportunity to read and review this book.
