"In the Far Pashmina Mountains" is a surprisingly interesting story. I didn't know what to expect from just the synopsis as I've never read anything by Janet MacLeod Trotter before. It's a definitely entertaining and well written book.

An author to rival Dinah Jeffries for fact and atmosphere , we go on an emotional and physical journey that leaves you feeling worn out just sitting reading about it As usual we have characters we love and those we dislike. I am sure that a lot of what our characters endured was for real and probably worse but if it wasn't for them would our history be any different? Well worth a read.

I love the way Janet writes her books. She writes her book with so much passion and always beautifully written.
So when In the Far Pashmina Mountains by Janet MacLeod Trotter was available to read I requested it. This book did not disappoint. However, I did find this book very long and had to put it down and come back to it.
Another good read.

Absolutely loved this book. It transported me to India and every page kept me gripped. I could not stop reading this story and it's made me find the author's other books to read more from her.

The novel focuses on the lives of Alice and John. Alice abandoned as a baby in a lighthouse saves the life of John in a storm. The novel follows their stories as they are separated and both continue with their lives, always thinking of the other. Through living in Scotland and northern England to India and Afghanistan. Covering life as part of the British army, domestic violence, friendships this book is gripping!

In the Far Pashmina Mountains is a beautifully written story that grabbed my attention from the first page. The characters are well developed and believable. I loved the evocative descriptions of the setting, and I thought the author captured the time period perfectly. Janet has clearly done a great amount of research in writing this book and her work shines on the pages of this well written historical fiction. This is my first book by the author and I look forward to reading more from her. Highly recommend to lovers of historical fiction.

I enjoyed this book, the first half much more than the second half. While it was predictable and melodramatic, I enjoyed the setting and time period (Scotland and India/Afghanistan in the early nineteenth century). The characters could have used more depth and the last half dragged on.

Well written story,liked the characters and how the story built up around the two main characters,snd the develooment of their lives.
Loved the description of the area it almost seemed thst the reader could picture the gardens and smells of India.
A must read.

Beautifully written historical fiction that kept me engrossed from page one! I found myself wanting to learn more about the time period after finishing this book, so I spent time online doing research. I found that the author's description of that period was perfectly captured. Highly recommend!

A really interesting read this one! Influenced and inspired by the author’s ancestors, mixed in with historical figures in the East India Tea Company, Grace Darling and Afghan war lords and it’s quite the cast! The author has clearly done her research and it’s an ambitious read but one I think she largely pulls off (just a small thing in the grand scheme of things but the ending seemed a bit rushed)

The novel spans around 40 years so there’s a lot to get your readers’ teeth into. Alice and her soldiers are well developed and their adventures exciting and well written. The writing actually matches the nature of the story well with its flowing currents, lyrical scenes and full of fascinating facts. It’s very cinematic in places and the story of Afghanistan and the British role in it was particularly enlightening. I take my hat off to the author for doing this without making the novel feel heavy or like a history book. Quite the skill that must be!

The story is vast and complex yet easy to read. I definitely feel more intelligent having read this as I feel I got a glimpse into the history of the time which was an amazing feeling.

Definately got this author on my radar now!

As a rule I don't read romance novels, but as the setting promised visits to England, India, and even Afghanistan, I couldn't resist. And I was definitely well rewarded.
Alice and John fall in love after she rescues him from his shipwreck and helps him recover. The time is the early 1800's and the story continues through the next 30 or so years.
Unfortunately the two lovers have so many spanners thrown into their lives that their love seems doomed to fail. In the meantime we learn much about the history of India in those days and the England's East India Company's foreys into Afganistan. I loved that.
Well written and researched, with plenty of adventure, I was pleasantly surprised at my enjoyment of this book. I strongly recommend it!
