I didn’t get very far with Winning the Battle for Your Mind, Will, and Emotions by Robert Hotchkin as it was a book that lacked Truth. Very “feeling” based. I was hoping for a book based on Scripture with the knowing and practice of “…taking every thought captive unto the obedience of Christ.” That is not what I found. I would not recommend this book to others.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I am highly interested in the topic of this book, as my own book “Transforming Your Thought Life: Christian Meditation in Focus” will be published later this year. This book is a powerful resource for transforming your thoughts and learning how they affect all parts of your being.

Robert Hotchkin writes from a somewhat charismatic perspective in this book. It’s different from what I normally read as a conservative Christian, but I found his insights to be practical and rooted in Scripture. In each chapter, he carefully unpacks his main point and how it applies to your thought life, leaving you with a strong takeaway.

He shares personal testimonies of how God helped him overcome chronic illness and other struggles by refocusing his mindset. I found his stories to be uplifting and inspiring. One story I enjoyed was when Robert was at a photo shoot. He doesn’t particularly like having his photo taken, and he was in a grumpy mood which was showing on his face. The photographer then asked him to think about his wife, which totally changed his demeanor. He writes:

“The only thing that changed during that photo shoot was the kind of thoughts I allowed to fill my mind. The lighting…backdrop…clothes…photographer…camera did not change. My thoughts changed. And that shifted everything.”

This story is a good example of how Robert uses a life story to make a spiritual point. I highlighted many key teachings in each chapter, and I think you will also find helpful applications from this interesting book.

Favorite Quotes from Winning the Battle:
If God seems to be taking longer than expected, it is simply because He is about to exceed our expectations.
The divine setup of His shakings helps reveal any inferior systems we have come into agreement with, so that they can be removed and replaced with His truth.
In His goodness, He wants to help you see anywhere that you are believing, agreeing with or relying on an inferior system of self, as opposed to resting and trusting in Him and His eternal Kingdom.
Thanks to Chosen and Netgalley for providing me a review copy of Winning the Battle for Your Mind, Will and Emotions.

I wanted to read this book because the description said you will learn to stop your feelings and fears from controlling you. I do not feel I attained that skill from this book. There were some beneficial insights, just not what I was looking for.

I received this galley from NetGalley.

This book blew my mind. He described me in ONE SENTENCE. I liked his take that we are three-in-one since we were created in the image of the Three-in-One. He isn't saying we are God, but made in His image. Soul, spirit and body. That's how we can be so disjointed, if our mind isn't one with the body and the soul, or if any one part isn't lined up properly, we aren't happy, whole or one with the Creator. I never thought of it in that way before, but it makes so much sense to me.

I honestly can't say enough positive about this book and how it hit me. This is a purchase, book-book, keeper and gift to others for me.

5, I don't want to ruin it for the reader of my review, just get the book and read it, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Chosen Books for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

Not many books rock my world, but this one has. I am so much more aware of my thoughts and feelings and questioning why I am reacting the way I do. Why am offended? Why am I irritated? What good does it do?

None.

I have the power to choose how I react and feel, but I am giving my circumstances power and they really have none.

As I read this book I often found myself in tears as God revealed new truths to me.

Here are a couple of quotes from the book and reached out and grabbed my heart:

“I was irritated because I was choosing to be irritated. I was feeling powerless because I was not exercising power over myself.”

“God shakes what can be shaken, so that His unshakable Kingdom that He has given you in its fullness can be revealed not just to you, but for you.”

“God’s promise to you is that He will shake what can be shaken so that it can be replaced with something greater, more glorious and divinely certain.”

Love this!

This book was a very helpful tool for me as I often battle with overwhelming feelings thoughts and emotions that I seemed to be losing a battle to.

This is an excellent book to gain control back of your mind and to learn tools to hand that control over to God. Very freeing perspective!

There is a battle in our minds and knowing how best to win this battle is key. Reading books such as this can help everyone achieve that.

This is a book that will make you dig deep inside yourself and realize just how much control you have gave the devil. He is the one that causes all the horrible thoughts to stay in your mind, he is the one you have got to defeat. This book will help you do just that, but You have to surrender to God and give him control. You can't do it on your own. Grab this book, a notebook and your Bible then watch and feel what happens.. It's not easy but it is so worth it. Thank you Chosen Books via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book, and thank you Robert Hotchkin for writing it. This is my honest opinion.
