This book is exceptional. It's not so much about war, as about what war does to people. It's focus is a couple who meet in Baghdad - an American soldier and a English administrator, and what brings them together, and whether that is strong enough to keep them together. with in this, it looks at personal identities, family, commitment and so much more.
I read this is three days, I couldn't put it down.

I was given a prerelease copy by NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

An emotional read! I instantly liked Emma, the main character. I thought this was an original plot and I will look out for future work by this author

This book was moving and relatable in a way that it is tricky to be whilst writing about such a tough subject as war is. The ending felt poignant and heart breaking but incredibly well written.
