This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended

I really like Alex Lake and this book was good. We meet Claire and Alfie and follow their life together. But where Claire’s life is perfect, Alfie’s not so much.

This book was a quick easy read, but I really enjoyed this story and would love to read more from this author.

This is a quick & undemanding read but for me it is a little generic to be something special. The writing is fair, not bad but not great either, and I found the dialogue clunky and unrealistic. I also found the characters a little cartoonish - the horrible husband is just too completely awful with little nuance to prevent him feeling one dimensional. I also get strong Gone Girl vibes from it so the twists are pretty much obvious from the start.

But the story telling is nice and hooky, even if the plot isn't entirely original, and does suck you in and provide several hours of distraction and mild entertainment. I also like that the villain gets his come-uppance.

A typical supermarket paperback type read - fun but forgettable.

This is the first Alex lake I have read, and it did not disappoint. The story was a rollercoaster of twists and turns and I was hooked from the start. The characters developed from the start but it was good to see how Claire developed. I liked how you had the view from the different people in the story. Thanks netgalley for letting me read this book.

Holy twisty Batman!

Claire believes that her marriage to Alfie is perfect and happy, except for her lack of a baby - despite trying! Little does she know that everything about Alfie is a front. From the very moment they met he has been playing her. She has money - her father is a wealthy estate agent owner - and money makes life easier. He has also had a vasectomy so children were never going to be an issue, for him at least. Things are dull and he wants out. He has a plan for his wife to disappear using an alter ego but then Claire vanishes on her own first...

Alfie was never going to be a likeable person but I confess I wasn't fond of Claire either, she was very obsessed with having a baby but she didn't have much of a personality beyond that. There were a couple of plot points around Claire that weren't really gone into in any depth as well. I thought her mother dying of a drug overdose was going to be a bigger thing. Also I expected more detail about an incident mentioned after Claire's reappearance, regarding a work colleague - spoiler free.

I loved the final third, my jaw dropped when I realised for definite what was going on. Although I did think that the final couple of chapters made for quite a weak ending comparitively.

This is the first book by Alex Lake I've read, and it won't be the last. You live through the actions of Claire, her desperation to have a baby, and her husband's secret. This was really a well written book, and I can't wait for the next one! Recommended.

I received this book from NetGalley a while back and it has been on my to-read list for quite some time!

This was the first book I've read by Alex Lake but I would read more in the future. It was a compelling read. I was hooked from the prologue - wondering who the girl was at the side of the road, and why she was there in that state. As I read the story I became more and more engrossed in it and didn't want to put it down. I was surprised to find out who was using the alias of "Henry Bryant" but when it was all revealed it did all make sense.

All in all it was a great read with a really good reveal! Would recommend to others and will be looking for more books by this author.

Another great read from Alex Lake I’ve enjoyed all of the books I’ve previously read and this was another corker. It had me gripped from the prologue and was a really easy read. I knew who Henry Bryant was but I felt this was meant to be known by the reader anyway? The next novel sounds really good too! Thanks to Netgalley, the author and HarperCollins for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely loved this book, couldn't put it down! There were some seriously creepy characters and plenty of twists, right to the end. The dual narrative between Alfie and Claire worked great. I can't wait to read more from Alex Lake!

Wow what a book and a half this was, having never read anything previous from the author I hoped not to be disappointed and well must have been y lucky day!

Some characters were just downright vile, full of twists and turns and had me totally hooked. Gobbled it up in one sitting not dating to move and I cannot wait to go and buy the previous books!

Buy it...!

Oh this was fun.

Claire and Archie are seemingly the perfect couple, but Archie knows they're not. He married Claire for her money, but now he's getting bored and is trying to figure out how to spice things up for himself with deadly consequences.

This is one of those books where you haven't got a clue what's coming next, but you desperately need to know. Block out your diary for the day, because you're going to have to read this in one sitting!

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.

What a tale of lies and revenge! On the one hand, you have a person so devoid of emotion that he makes real life protagonists seem tame in comparison; on the other, a woman who is difficult to like for her inability to see the writing on the wall. When the truth eventually surfaces, it leads to a satisfying conclusion. A well written, albeit at times, unbelievable storyline, I nevertheless enjoyed it immensely. Thank you Netgalley and the Publishers for giving me an ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

The Last Lie is a fast moving psychological thriller. A wealthy young wife wants a baby but is unaware her loving husband is leading an amoral and secret life. This is a compelling read.

Had me gripped from the start as I knew the general plot from the blurb. I was waiting patiently for the story to start and it really didn't take that long. It was pretty short, or maybe I read it so quick because I couldn't put it down, but the speed was great and there were no times when I felt that something was written just to fill pages. I really couldn't guess the ending, would definitely recommend

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

This is possibly one of the most original stories within this genre that I have read for a long time. It starts off so intriguingly, with a seemingly devoted husband who quickly lets us know that he is not as he seems. Claire, although a bit gullible and clueless, retains all the sympathy throughout the book even when it appears that she has gained the upper hand.

This was a story with so many layers that it was impossible to predict what was going to happen next. I eagerly await the next masterpiece from Alex Lake.
