Ok premise if a little far fetched. Unlikeable male character and too predictable for my liking. Guessed the ending far too early on and began disliking the female lead as well. Unrealistic ending. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it

Good book. I have another by this author on my shelf that I've never got round to reading and will sure pick up now.
Fast paced, interesting and keeps the pages turning. Recommend.

This has to rank in the top 10 books of the year. A brilliantly twisted tale woven from reels of lies. Written from the alternative viewpoints of Claire and Alfie, the story builds deliciously. An extremely enjoyable book that is sure to be a bestseller.

Not a bad book.
Thank you to both NetGalley and Harper Collins for my ARC of this book in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion

A marriage based on lies... a missing person - both sound like great ingredients for a good thriller, which led me to reading this book.

The prologue had me hooked and I delved in with gusto, but quickly became bored with Claire and Alfie (how much she loved him and how much he despised her).

However, it became clear to me that there was a glimmer of hope for this book, when Alfie’s deceit catches up with him and he begins to unravel.

I definitely enjoyed this book and urge anyone tempted to give up in the beginning, to stick with it. It is a good story with a decent twist, I just wish the characters had a bit more depth to them.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I loved this book. It was full of twists and turns which kept me hooked and I certainly didn’t know what to expect. I will certainly be looking out for more by this author in the future

Excellent read, with a great twist part way through. A good, fast pace. Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend.

Just finished reading this book and overall I enjoyed it. probably the first half more than the second if I am honest as I thought the second half was too obvious. I would have been interested to find out more about Alfie's back story and think this would have added to the story.

This is a gripping psychological thriller, and gets off to a cracking start. The reader's sympathies lie with Claire, married to the cold hearted Alfie. I absolutely loved the first half of the book. I guessed the twist, which in itself didn't spoil the book, but I thought Claire was behaving out of character by the end, and this disappointed me. Overall though, this is a great, fast paced read, and I look forward to reading more books by Alex Lake.

If you're looking for a book about lies, affairs, murder and deceit then look no further than Alex Lakes, The Last Lie.
A really enjoyable read.

I've read all of Alex Lakes books and always enjoy them. This one had a great premise that should have worked but, although I enjoyed the writing, I felt that it was a bit too much at times. And from that I mean that the reader was thrown so many of the same clues that the twist wouldn't come as a surprise to anyone! I was spoon fed every little detail too many times so I was disappointed that there wasn't a double bluff to end the, up until then, great storyline.
Fabulous writing as always though..

I LOVED this. I mean who doesn't love a good husband-against-wife plot these days? The marriage that's supposedly perfect on the outside but, oh so broken on the inside.

The first part of the book dragged a bit and was super predictable, but then things turn around and you realize the author's purposefully set it up like that so that you would be completely thrown off your horse during the second part.

This seemed like a typical Mr. and Mrs. Smith scenario at first but I must say I couldn't guess who will tell THE LAST LIE until the very last chapter.

Also, I think the husband character could've been developed more - more villain-y. There were times when, in the light of what they both were going through, I considered if she had actually met her match. But then again...that ending!

Big thanks to NetGalley for this cope in exchange for my honest review.

Wow ! This is another excellent psychological thriller from Alex Lake.Claire thinks she has it all a good career a lovely home and most of all in Alfie a husband she adores and Claire thinks Alfie loves her,but under the surface it is all a con because unbeknown to Claire Alfie actually hates Claire and her dad and all her friends, in fact all he wants is her money and the life style it affords him..All Claire wants is a baby to make her life complete but when she finds out Alfie has been lying to her about why she can't conceive she comes up with a plot to ruin him.A brilliant plot and well written thriller once again by Alex Lake which had me gripped from early on in the book,an excellent 5 star read.

The Last Lie is a really fun read, full of twists and surprises and entertaining characters. It's easy to read and, although some parts were quite obvious, this didn't hamper my enjoyment of it at all.

The characters in this novel are such a mix, from those I truly hated with every fibre of my being to those I was rooting for throughout. The changes in perspective between him and Claire, with the reader never knowing exactly was in the driving seat and who was being played, is brilliant and so much fun to read. We hear a lot from Claire and then it's just from Alfie for a while which left me wondering as to what had or hadn't happened... The storyline actually weaves its way through various narratives, covering Claire, Alfie, the detective investigating the case and others, which added extra intrigue to the story.

The short chapters and fast pace kept me wanting to read more and the fact that I really wanted to know what had happened meant I got through this in a day. Some parts are perhaps over-explained to the reader but I found The Last Lie truly addictive reading and will definitely be reading other books by Alex Lake!

The very first thing I'm going to say about this book is that I absolutely loved it.

The second thing I'm going to say is that I can't believe some of the low reviews this book has got, I'm so glad I didn't let those reviews put me off from reading this book.

Having read a couple of books by this author previously, I was super excited to read her latest release and boy what a story it was. I was hooked and captivated from start to finish, could not turn the pages fast enough.

I thought the story plot was very well written and I love how it was told, narrated by different characters throughout which gives you clever little insights into how those characters are thinking and how their minds work.

I really enjoyed how the story ending, there was a moment where I was waiting with baited breathe wondering how it would end and the thought that went through my head was will she do it or won't she do it, just brilliant.

Thank you Netgalley and Harper Collins for a copy of this book. I had read Copy Cat from Alex Lake, so I was intrigued to read this one.
Clare and Alfie seemed to have it all, perfect marriage, jobs and happy to their friends except for one thing. Claire yearns for a child. They try for a child but they seem to be having problems so Claire books an appointment with Doctor Singh.
Alfie starts getting concerned about how much Claire is going about to conceive. What she doesn’t know is, the true feelings that Alfie has. As we go along into the story we learn that Alfie doesn’t want kids and he doesn’t like Claire either. He only wants her money and he will do anything to get it.
I won’t say anymore of the story I don’t want to spoil it. But, for me this book just didn’t do it for me. I thought this book was quite predictable and it annoyed me how chauvinistic the character Alfie was. How he thought he would get away with all the lies he told and women would fall at his feet and sleep with him. The only thing I liked was, in the second half of the book the tables was turned and Alfie got what he deserved. Three stars from me.

I was drawn into this book from the Prologue as it started with a bang. I very quickly disliked Alfie - an arrogant, self-serving character and felt sorry for Claire., a trusting, capable young woman with a lack of personal confidence The first half of the book was fascinating and fast moving. I was fairly confident what was happening in the second half but still enjoyed the tale, although, without spoilers, things changed rather rapidly and with a stretch to the imagination. I will not hesitate to read more by Alex Lake whose writing I thoroughly enjoyed.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Alex Lake/Harper Collins for a digital copy of this title. All views expressed are my own.

This is a brilliant book with very believable characters and story line. I did guess about two thirds through what was going on but that's because I read a lot of similar books and it didn't stop me continuing to enjoy it.. Every spare minute I was eager to read just another couple of chapters, it draws you in and you want to spend all day sitting on the couch devouring it. Alfie is a very clever person, but maybe not so clever after all and Claire, who appears to be quite weak and submissive, shows her metal when it really mattered. A word of advice, don't read this book in bed, you'll keep putting off closing it and snuggling down to sleep, I had a few nights when I fell asleep slumped over my kindle because I couldn't stop reading it.

I have already read several books by this author and was looking forward to this book. I was so disappointed. The story was predictable and the ending held no surprises. It was repetitive and frankly annoying. I felt as though i the reader was being treated like a child. The author was firmly holding my hand when all i wanted to do was explore on my own and make my own decisions. I really struggled to finish this book.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for the ARC of this book in return for giving an honest review.

good thriller. Not my favourite by Alex Lake, that goes to Copy Cat but I am working my way through her books.

Different aspects of narrative from Claire, Alfie, D I Wynne and PC Street which I always like as long as its clear on who we are with from chapter to chapter.

An unusual angle in this thriller that I've not come across before so it was enjoyable.
