I really enjoyed reading this book. I can't say much because it would be so easy to spoil the story for others. I worked out what was happening but it didn't spoil my enjoyment at all. It was just so good reading the denouement and its effect. Great story telling.

This was a great thriller with twists and turns along the way. It starts with Alfie and Claire, they seem to have an idyllic life, but long for a baby to complete their happy family. All is not as it seems however.... Alfie isn’t quite the person he portrays himself as and has a dark and dangerous alter ego. The story unfolds and we see Alfie plot to get his own way and the lifestyle he craves. I won’t spoil the ending but it wasn’t necessarily what I was expecting!

It was a fast paced thriller, which was easy and entertaining to read. But, my issue was the idea was not original at all. So many books cover this type of thriller.
If you're looking for a comfort thriller, something only for fun with a twist and pace, this can be for you.

If you are looking fast paced read with short chapters that's easy to pick up then this is your book. The question that the book raises is 'how well do you know your other half?' which is a theme that has cropped up a lot in books I have read recently, so for a book to stand out it needs to add a new twist. Unfortunately, this book offers nothing new; the characters were very superficial and straight away it was revealed that Alfie was a wolf in sheep's clothing. There was no tension and a lot of repetition, so that it felt I was being hit over the head with a mallet and a siren going off alerting me to 'a very important (but obvious) point'.

My thanks go to the publishers and Net Galley for the advanced copy in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book, loved how it was written in three parts and it soon got me hooked into the storyline.

A good psychological thriller and page turner, slightly predictable but nevertheless a thoroughly good book which I can definitely recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

WoW........I can honestly say I really enjoyed The Last Lie by Alex Lake and was hooked after the first few pages.

Claire and Alfie appear to be the perfect married couple to their friends and for Claire is happy in her marriage, life is excellent, she has a good job, but, she is desperate to have a child. After reading a few chapters it becomes clear that Claire's Husband Alfie isn't what he appears to be. You will find out more about him, and his lies. Plus, he does not want children with Claire or anyone else!

I just loved this book. It had so many twists and turns and Claire's character was just brilliant. I loved the clever twist at the end.......10/10 from me and I would Highly recommend this book

Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have to say I really enjoyed this book, the flip back between Alfie & Claire who on the outside appear to everyone to be the perfect couple but Alfie is not what he seems, I was shocked by some of the things he said and did and plotting behind his wife’s back and being so nice, so two faced to Claire.

There are three parts to this book and I was hooked from the first page! A fast paced story that will keep you intrigued right throughout, who will come on top? Come on as if I’m going to say but to suffice to say, you will be on tenterhooks!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I found this to be a predictable story with characters I could not get interested in. I guessed early on what was happening and only read to the end to see if there were any twists I was not expecting thrown in. I probably would read another book by this author.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

This book will have you hooked from the first few chapters.
Claire and Alfie appear to be the perfect couple to their friends and for Claire, life is good except she is desperate to start a family.
We then read a chapter from Alfies’s perspective and realise he doesn’t want children and doesn’t like Claire very much.
He is what I would call, a weasel, and I just wanted Claire to work her way through all his lies. He is so selfish but is a brilliant manipulator.
Something happens and the story is turned completely on it’s head and I loved the way the story ended.
I can’t say too much more as I don’t want to spoil it, but if you like a good psychological thriller, then you’ll love this book.
Thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Unfortunately, the first word that sprung to mind when ruminating over this book in the hours after finishing it is patronising. It felt a lot like I was been treated like an imbecile, and the author spelt everything out when it should've been left to the reader to use their powers of deduction to work out the clues given the genre. This constant explaining of even really obvious points was incredibly irksome and interrupted the flow of the writing making it very disjointed. Not only that, but the author went on to repeat these points multiple times over the course of the novel as though the reader had the memory of a goldfish and needed reminding over and over. I also guessed the twist very early on, and the characters were superficial and lacking in depth. That said, I would read another book by Lake but only because the previous titles were well written and had none of the issues mentioned here.

Many thanks to HarperCollins for an ARC.

I’d like to thank HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Last Lie’ by Alex Lake in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Alfie Daniels meets Claire at a party and although he despises her for having a lifestyle of wealth and luxury thanks to her rich father, he decides to cultivate their relationship and marries her. But Alfie’s life with Claire is built on lies and he uses dating sites adopting the pseudonym of Henry Bryant to meet other women. Alfie starts to hate Claire but realises that to continue with the life he’s become accustomed to he must dispose of her!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Last Lie’, a psychological thriller with a gripping plot, intriguing characters, twists and turns that kept me guessing, and a perfect conclusion with poetic justice for the perpetrator. I loved the writing style which made it easy to read, and I became so engrossed in what was going to happen next that I stayed up late and finished it in twenty-four hours. This is an excellent novel and one I can absolutely recommend.

This got really aggravating as the author treated the readers like complete idiots, incapable of assessing motives and 'real' thoughts despite the fact that we knew what everyone as up to throughout. Once that is revealed, there is no need to keep drumming home and recapping what that character is thinking and what is driving their actions. Ruined a storyline which was already far fetched. Not as good as other books by the same writer.

I enjoyed this book, it had me hooked straight away. Although it wasn’t difficult to guess what was going on I still wanted to get to the end to find out how it all played out.

Having read one of the author's previous books, Copy Cat and loved it, as soon as I saw that this book was available to download I jumped at the chance to get a copy and dove right in as soon as it landed on my Kindle!

I absolutely LOVED this story - I finished this book a little before midnight on the day I started it and I had to do my review straight away - my head was buzzing, it is one of those books that you want to see how it ends but feel genuinely saddened that it's over!

I loved the storyline for this, there were twists and turns and it had me guessing more than once, it is all worked through very well with no loose ends - I found it completely addictive!

I was really finding myself emotionally involved with the characters too when I was reading the story, I loathed Alfie and loved Claire! They were very well developed and superb in their own way. I loved the writing style and it made for a brilliant read.

Five stars from me for this one, I was hooked right from the first few paragraphs and read it in a day, really was a book I didn't want to put down and the ending - perfect!
