Katie is fleeing a relationship which has gone sour, and her patents who are constantly at war. She has her toddler son Saul in tow. Katie ends up in a tiny village on the Devon coast, where everyone is either related to each other or knows each other. She gradually settles in to life there when she meets Van. Scared of being in yet another failed relationship, Katie tries to keep her distance.
A beautifully written story, a light read but very deep.

Another in the Comfort Food Cafe series; this time the main character is Katie. Katie is a single mum to Saul. She has a difficult relationship with her parents & with Saul's father & a habit of running away rather than tackling her problems.
While I finished this book I found Katie's lack of backbone & soul searching annoying. Nt my favourite from this author or in this series.

That was just like snuggling into a fleece blanket on the sofa in front of a lit fire. Total bliss.

I always enjoy the trips to the comfort food cafe and this one was no exception. I loved it.

A lovely story following on from previous ales by this very readable author. Definitely recommended to those fans of the Comfort Cafe.

Kate lives with her young son Saul in Budbury and feels that she has finally found somewhere that she can call home, somewhere that she doesn't want to run away from, and she wants to make a safe happy home for Saul unlike her own childhood with constantly warring parents! This year she feels that she should try to interact more with locals as they have all been so kind and welcoming to her but what about Van, he is so good with Saul but she is scared to get too close and worried that Saul might become too attached

A lovely book, you really feel for for Kate with the trauma she has been through with her parents but you are really rooting for her to take a chance with Van as they are so perfect for each other. Lovely to be back with all of the old friends from the cafe as well.

I have read every single one of the Comfort Food Cafe books and loved each one. I love that they are all connected and we revisit familiar characters, catch up with their lives and fully explore other characters who got a passing mention in earlier books.

I find books like this series reassuring.y comforting and familiar, it’s like a hug in a book and I look forward to each one!

Katie has been running all her life. First from the dysfunctional family background her parents created then from her own dysfunctional relationship with the father of her son, Saul. When she finally seems to find a safe haven in Budbury with its close-knit community arranged around The Comfort Food Cafe, she slowly starts to get out of her shell. Then suddenly her past reaches after her.
I love this series with all the quirky characters. It would be lovely to be part of this warm community. It is always a delight to read the new Comfort Food Cafe book and it was the same with Katie's story. It is a charming book, I loved it. I am looking forward to the next one.

A pleasant enough read even if a bit far fetched. Enjoyable in a simplistic way to wile away a cold evening.

Another superb story from the Comfort food cafe. One of my all time favourite book series. (Although can be read as a stand alone.) This is another warm, engaging and totally absorbing story. An absolute must read for Debbie Johnson fans.

I have read this entire series about the Budbury cafe (by the sea) and it makes me feel warm and cosy inside and want to join in their fun.
Each book gives us a view of the village and its inhabitants from their different story viewpoints, even when the timeframe and occasion is the same. We learn more about them each time, as the stories focus on one ‘pair’ in each book.
This book, as ever, has a happy ending with a matched pair and a father - or two -for a young boy.

I just love the Comfort Food cafe series and this latest offering is just as charming as the others.
In this one we meet our usual wonderful cafe gang but also get to know Katie and her young son Saul who are seeking sanctuary and calm in the village of Budbury. Katie must find her way as a parent but also find herself and the Budbury crew each add a little something to her story and her self-discovery.
There is, of course, a love interest to keep us old romantics going!
This book is utterly charming, it's a hug in book form that feels like an indulgent treat. It has humour yet also deals some of the challenges that life throws at us. However it is the characters that make this book, as it does all of the series.
My suggestion: curl up, relax and enjoy!

A Gift from the Comfort Food Cafe is one of those books you can easily devour in one sitting and leaves you wanting more.

Growing up in a family where arguments and violence was the norm, Katie found herself running away from her relationship when she saw how it was in danger of mirroring that of her parents. Arriving in the pretty coastal village of Budbury with her baby son, she sets about making a new life for herself and her son. But when her old life seems intent on making itself part of her present, she has to decide whether to run again.

Absolutely loved it. Keeping my fingers crossed for another installment of The Comfort Food Cafe in future. The characters feel like family now.
