This book just wasn't for me. I found it dragged and the characters were a bit boring. I don't like giving a bad review but its all down to personal preference.

Thank you for the advance copy.

This was a super slow read, I tried my hardest to get through it as best as I could, but it just didn't work for me in the slightest. It just felt like I wasn't getting anywhere with it, I persevered for a good fifth of the novel but in the end I just had to give up with it, which was a shame. I .liked the potential but it just didn't carry through for me.

This was this author's debut novel, and even though it was a bit of a slow read, I can see her going strong in the future. The book was well-written and an entertaining read until the end. Recommended.

This is an ok modern fictional story. It's about a holiday romance where the main character Skye is dumped by her holiday boyfriend Jonny. However she just doesn't accept it and spends her time trying to find him.

A holiday romance which promised everything but delivered nothing. Skye couldn’t wait to return home to Edinburgh to start her new life with charismatic Johnny. When it didn’t pan out as expected, she inveigled herself into his family, which is where she becomes, in her own way, just as unpleasant as Johnny. The other main character is Anna, Johnny’s old friend. The characters were all awful with absolutely no redeeming qualities at all and I didn’t have any empathy with any of them. A slow, meandering book which doesn’t really get properly going until later in the story. A great cover though with fantastic descriptions of Chamonix and parts of Scotland with even a couple of legends thrown into the mix! A book suitable for either a beach or sitting in front of a roaring fire.

I found this book quite disjointed and was initially pretty confused by Skye's behaviour, which is largely obsessive. There was something qutie calculated about the way she sneakily immersed herself in the lives of Johnny's family and friends. I found mysellf skipping through the flashbacks to when they met. I was intrigued to see whether her actions would be rumbled but I expected to be more immersed in the plot than I actually was. It's not a bad book but I just didn;t connect with Skye's character enough to invest in the plot beyond mild intrigue.

What a marmite book! I don’t mean that rudely at all, especially seeing as I am a huge fan of marmite, however, I really did struggle to get into this book at the beginning as I couldn’t make head nor tail of what exactly Skye was trying to achieve. Not only that, I couldn’t work out what her fixation was with Johnny! Granted I haven’t exactly had a holiday romance myself so I am unsure of the protocol where such things are concerned, but aren’t holiday romances just that?

Anyway, after I told my brain to broaden it’s horizon’s and read the rest of the storyline with an open mind, I was pleasantly surprised to find that for a book I wasn’t struck on to start with, ended up being one that I was highly addicted to. Funny how things change isn’t it?

Skye is very manipulative yet has the vibe of someone who has their heart in the right place. Weird putting the two together I know, but that’s just how it was. Her heart had been trodden on and she had been let down – I can see why she had the mindset that she did where Johnny was concerned…to a point. What shocked me was the psychologically damaging vibe she had as thought she was intent on ruining his life in revenge. Was she throwing her teddy out of the pram because a man didn’t respond to her after their holiday fling? Or was Johnny in the wrong for leading her on and involving her in a twisted set up?

Reader, I have to say that I am on the fence – I can’t answer those questions despite having read the book myself. Usually having unanswered questions at the end of a book annoys me, but the whole addictive personalities of the characters, the intricate psychological elements, as well as the ‘did she or didn’t she?’/’did he or didn’t he?’, kept me enthralled and had me hooked line and sinker.

Daisy McNally is a unique story teller, I’ll give her that, but wow she doesn’t half make it work in her favour!! I didn’t see through the characters in this book but I fell in love with the authors detailed and twisted storytelling, that’s for sure!

This book started very slowly and I eventually gave up on it. After re-reading some of the other reviews though, I might try again later

I See Through You is actually quite a difficult one to review without giving too much away so I'll be keeping this one brief. It's basically a story of one woman's obsession with a man she meets on a winter trip to Chamonix who literally ghosts her when he returns home, not returning her phone calls or messages, so she basically stalks him and his family to get some answers.

Skye was one of those dysfunctional characters that you were cringing at her actions, I mean a thirty-something woman stalking his mother on Instagram, and then turning up at the same places as her, just to find out more about Johnny was just short of crazy but at the same time desperate times called for desperate measures. At times I will admit that I just didn't connect with Skye, and the slow pace of the story didn't engage me so I almost gave up reading, but there was just that little something that niggled at me and told me to keep on reading and I'm definitely glad that I did.

I See Through You is one of those books that you know there is more going on than first meets the eye so you have to wait patiently for that aha moment when something is revealed and then everything falls into place and starts to make sense. With its heart wrenching plot, and cleverly crafted storyline, this was the perfect introduction to the writing talent of Daisy McNally so I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us readers in the future.

This is a debut novel for this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It started with a lie . . .
Skye has finally met someone she can trust. A holiday romance, of all things. But you know when something real comes along, when it's meant to be. Don't you? A week after returning home, and Johnny has disappeared. He hasn't called or returned her messages.
Then, with the easiest of lies, Skye finds a way back in to Johnny's life - and to the people in it. When she makes an unlikely friend, they realise that Johnny is telling lies of his own. So will the two women find a way to bring him down - or each other?
It ended with the truth.

A mystery-thriller with a twist you don't see coming!!!
Some may see it as a slow-burner with the need to keep going to get into it... but I enjoyed it that way.
Well written with dysfunctional characters... makes for an interesting read.

I look forward to more of Daisy's work.

Thank-You Netgalley for my ARC.

I See Through You was a slow burner of a psychological drama, following Skye, who after a holiday romance dies a sudden death, becomes entangled with her ex lover’s family and stuck within a web of lies…

I liked this mainly for the character, who’s gently obsessive nature is very intriguing. Skye justifies her every move even as she becomes the very definition of a stalker, often to the point that you, the reader, agree with her actions. Then we have Anna, who in her own way is just as obsessed. Meanwhile the third point of this triangle, the erstwhile Johnny, is oblivious to the machinations going on around him.

It makes for addictive read, with the emphasis very much on character, rolling slowly and inexorably towards a fascinating conclusion..

I really enjoyed it, a slightly different way of telling a classic tale, with some intelligently drawn characters and a realistic plot.

Recommended.

Book Review: I See Through You by Daisy McNally

🔰🔰My Review🔰🔰

I’ll admit I nearly abandoned this book at the start, but something made me press on. And I’m so glad I persevered. It just needed a little time to warm up. Once I saw where it was headed, I was hooked, as it’s such an unusual plot.

I think I spent most of the book with my jaw hanging loosely, thinking what the hell is she doing! Seriously, WHAT IS SHE DOING! And then I couldn’t read fast enough to see how it would all end.

If you like interesting albeit dysfunctional characters, and a merry go round of a plot, then I recommend this to you.

A beautifully written book. The author is very skilled, and writes clever description, but in a way that feels very natural. Unfortunately for me the story was only okay. I did enjoy it, but didn't find it particularly exciting. I would read this author again though, because her prose is wonderful.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. This was a fairly good and simple read and that had a really good storyline, not the best I have read but not the worse
