Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

Please note that this book is not for me - I have read the book, However I had to DNF and because i do not like to give negative reviews I will not review this book fully - there is no specific reason for not liking this book. I found it a struggle to read and did not enjoy trying to force myself to read this book.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for the opportunity to read this book

Unfortunately, I did not finish this book. I tried to read it a couple of times but it was not the right fit for me. It wasn't the book's fault it was a prime example of why I should not impulse request ARCs on Netgalley. It was not a book which would have been on my radar but I saw it mentioned on Twitter and instantly decided I wanted it and then promptly forgot all about it after my request was done. You can imagine my surprise when the approval came in because my motivation to read had faded.

The writing style seemed fun and the characters would potentially have been really interesting but from the time of this book piquing my interest to the time of me actually picking it up my motivation to read and wained and this was not to be a book for me.

I had been anticipating a light hearted romance, full of heat and not too much more. What I read however was so much more than that.

Set in a small kingdom, the book tells the story of a jilted Royal princess, and her determination to discover just what happened to the man she was meant to marry.

What becomes incredibly apparent is that she can't really trust anyone.

There is so much action, and plot in this book its tricky at times to keep track, but once you get to grips with who everyone is and whose side they may be in, its a pleasure to read.

I found myself turning the pages at the rate of knots, to discover what would happen next.

As you would expect from a Headline Eternal book, there is some sizzling chemistry between the leads, but how much its acted on... well you will need to read to find out!

Thank you to Netgalley and Headline Eternal for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

The story of Thea and Nick. When they first meet they are both pretending to be someone they're not. So what will happen when they find out the truth about each other.
There is also the problem with the fiance who jilted Thea at the altar - where is he and is he still alive?

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary review

This story is light, flirty, funny and easy to read. A little bit romance, a little bit detective, a little bit mystery and a whole lot of fun. Princess Theodora meets a mystery Scotsman. But she’s gone off Scots as one recentlY dumped her at the altar. In front of the whole country! But their adventure kicks in very quickly and all of a sudden The Princess is chucking out the royal rule book on etiquette and learning how to survive whilst on the run

Despite living in the UK now, I’m not a huge Royal Family person. However, I’ve always loved a good princess story and grew up on Disney films. The Royal Runaway sounded like my exact cup of tea -- like The Princess Diaries, but all grown up. I threw myself into Theodora’s world and drank it up.

I really enjoyed the heck out of this book. I was hooked immediately and it was the perfect escape during a particularly stressful time. It combines so many things that I love: princesses, a cosy mystery, handsome Scotsmen, spies, and romance. As someone who has been reading almost exclusively science fiction and fantasy lately, it was the perfect departure and I flew through it.
‘World building’ is a term that is often associated with fantasy novels, however it is such an important tool in any book. Emory really nails the world building in The Royal Runaway. The fictional European country of Dreiden feels so incredibly read. Emory created history, architecture, language, customs, politics, and traditions that lend this book such an incredible flavour. Dreiden feels like such a real place, you’ll be tempted to book your next European holiday there.

The Royal Runaway is such a character-driven book and Princess Theodora Isabella Victoria of Drieden of the Royal House of Laurent, or Thea for short, is a gift. I absolutely loved her and although she’s a strong and thoughtful woman at the beginning of the book, she still manages to have some excellent character growth. Her knowledge of Dreiden’s history, her deep care for her people, the dedication to her duties, and her snarky inner monologue made her such a fun character to read about. I feel like with princess stories, regardless of age range or genre, you often see the same princess character over and over again. Thea is a fresh twist on the princess trope, one who creates her own storybook ending. Nick, our hero, took some time for me to warm up to. This all comes down to personal preference -- he’s a bit too alpha for my tastes. If I were Thea, I would have pushed him in the river and been done with him pretty early on. However if you like your alpha romance heroes, I think you’ll enjoy the romance in this book -- even I warmed to Nick in the end.

I really enjoyed The Royal Runaway -- it is the perfect escape for cold autumn nights! Whether you’re a longtime romance reader or looking for something new, I’d recommend picking this one up. This was my first book by Lindsay Emory and it certainly wont be the last.
