Sorry but I didn’t enjoy this book, I read it and put it down and came back to it a few times before eventually finishing it.

This book is the first in a new winter themed series by the author. However it is set just after New Year so anyone expecting a Christmassy feel will be disappointed. You may also be surprised this book and it's sequels (to come) are not set on Nantucket. This first book sets the scene for the story whereby the wife Irene discovers her recently deceased husband has been unfaithful. Enter two sons and local islanders as a story begins to unfold leaving the readers wanting more. I found the setting enjoyable and the characters likeable.
Fans of shorter novels will be delighted with this but there will be a bit of a wait for the next installment and subsequent ones. Another great read from this author.

A mystery in a beautiful, tropical setting - when Irene hears the devastating news of her husband's death, her perfect life is shattered. Discovering that her husband's body was found on a tropical island, however, completely mystifies her. Irene sets out to uncover the truth. An engrossing read with credible characterisation and not as predictable as you may expect.

This book was not what I expected it to be, I was expecting cosy, winter romance but instead I got a bit of a rollercoaster ride of a book, from the very first page, I was sucked in and was desperate to find out what happened with Irene - Hilderbrand has a remarkable way of making you feel like you know the location and as such, I felt like I was on St Johns as we went through the book, I'm excited to read some of the Nantucket based novels as I'm hoping this same sense of detail will be in those too.

This is an exciting shot of sunshine, drama and intrigue to brighten up these cold, British winter days.

I used to think that Elin Hilderbrand's books were not for me. And then I read my first Elin Hilderbrand novel (The Perfect Couple), only a couple of months ago and I loved it!

Winter in Paradise is another perfect light beach read, with plenty of family drama set in the beautiful surroundings of St John's (Virgin Islands). Irene Steele has been happily married to Russ for 35 years, and they have two grown up sons together. Russ is a successful businessman who is always away 'on business'. Out of nowhere Irene receives a call that her husband had died in a helicopter crash on St John's when taking a trip from his holiday home. All three passengers, the pilot, Irene's husband and a local woman are dead. Irene is devasted, but also very confused. What was Russ doing in the Virgin Islands? What holiday home? And who is the local woman? Irene knows that the only way to find out what is going on, is to travel to St John's and see for herself. She is joined by her two sons who have problems of their own. Everything gets more complicated when the boys realise they are both interested in the same girl. With each chapter narrated by a different character, we get to experience the story from different angles and see Russ' secret life in a different light.

I find Erin's book entertaining and very addictive. The pacing of the story was perfect, I was never bored, but it was not rushed either. You have time to get to know the diverse cast of characters who are relatable, with every day problems. You might not like all of them, but you are still curious to see how their story ends.

This is a book #1 in a mini-series and for me, it had the right mix of family drama, romance and interesting cast that I'll be happy to pick up the book #2 to see where the story goes, especially as Winter in Paradise finished with a cliffhanger!

Many thanks to Hodder & Stoighton for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

You know that you're comfortably off, you know that your husband works in something or other that brings in plenty of money, but when he's killed in a helicopter crash you discover that he owns an expensive villa in the Virgin Islands and there was more to his working away than you thought. Irene's marriage was the envy of her friends. Her husband told her he loved her pretty well every day. When he was away he rang her regularly and left her little gift and sent her her favourite flowers. Her world unravels after he is killed.

A good book, well written. It makes me want to visit the Virgin Islands.

Really enjoyed this book by Elin Hildebrand. Have read quite a few of her books now and i think this is my favourite so far.

Beautifully written and keeps you guessing until the end. In fact I finished the book then had to re-read the last few chapters to see if i had missed things. Leaves you with a few what ifs and questions at the end of the book but I kind of like that as it keeps you interested in the characters and the story after the book has finished, as you are wondering what happens next for them all .

Great read. Thank you for letting ne review it.

It took me less than two days finishing this book, because I was very intrigued about that Russ Steele character. What I especially appreciated about Winter In Paradise was the way the main characters - and there are quite a few - were so real life. No way you can any of them mixed up: each and every one of them had some background about who their friends were or from what kind of family they came. And often they turn out quite unlike the others might think, for instance the two Steele brothers.

For readers who like books by Alan Titchmarsh and Maeve Binchy, I highly recommend this book. And luckily for me, this is the first in a series. I can't wait for Paradise #2!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.

This was a different type of book to my normal crime thriller and I really enjoyed it. The characters were interesting and the mystery kept me intrigued throughout the whole story. There was so much left unsaid at the end that I must assume that there will be a sequel to let us know exactly what happened to Russell and why he kept such a huge secret from Irene and his sons. If there is no further book to follow then I do think that this left too many loose ends. This is the first book I have read by this author but it wont be the last as I do like her style of writing.

Winter In Paradise is the first book I’ve read by Elin Hilderbrand and don’t know where she’s been hiding all these years from me!!
The book is set in the delightful St. John’s island and I have to say I thought I was actually seeing this sublime island myself as Elin has a good descriptive way that really brings you into your surroundings making them appear very real.
We start this book on New Year’s Day with Irene who has from what I can see a very nice and easy life but this crumbles very quickly when she receives a phone call to say her husband has died in a helicopter accident. Here everything Irene and her two sons ever believed was true comes away at the seams. Irene is a good strong lead character but I found the sons almost brattish in behaviour but maybe this is what you get when money appears to be no object.
This isn’t my usual type of book but I did enjoy this very much and will look out for the next one as this does leave you on a bit of a cliff hanger.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Hodder and Staughton for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

I am a big Elin Hilderbrand fan and this book does not disappoint. Family, love and heartbreak are all written about in this wonderful story. I really liked all the characters and the descriptions of the scenery. Irene is an amazingly strong woman. She copes admirably when she loses Russ and has to deal with the revelations of his life on St Johns. I am so glad that there is more of this story to come. I am starting to get to know these characters and I want to know more about them.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
