First, I am a grown woman who has loved dinosaurs since I was a very small child, so despite knowing when the publisher offered me a copy of this book that it was geared towards children, I was still pretty excited, I won't lie. I love the art on the cover, so I hoped that would continue on in the book (which it does, and it's lovely), but I didn't really know what to expect—if it would just be a picture of each dinosaur, or a short description, or what.

It turns out that the goal here was to offer a brief description of each dinosaur, but there is information missing, of course (as we certainly don't know everything about the creatures that have been discovered!), so a sizable number of entries in the dictionary are basically just the dinosaur's name, with no information on them. For the dinosaur types that there is information regarding, though, it's good, factual work made easy to read without being dumbed down too much. There are lovely, colorful illustrations throughout the entire book, though that's probably going to be hit-and-miss for a lot of people, as the artwork isn't realistic; it's just stylized silhouettes with minimal details, in gorgeous, bright colors. Authentic, no. Nice to look at, though? Quite.

The last thing I'll say is that this is not a book that you're intended to read cover-to-cover in one sitting; it functions more as a loose reference guide.

Would I add it to my son's library? Maybe.

Thank you so much to the publisher for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This does what it says on the tin and its hard to imagine it being much better.
My only real complaint is that the blurbs could be a bit more interesting and less encyclopedic toned.

There are hundreds of dinosaur blurbs around half of them with pictures. My guess is that since this includes all discovered dinosaurs some of them are still rather new with limited information and hence smaller blurbs/no pictures.

This book has a limited audience but should thrill that audience.
My daughter is 6 and found the kind of information provided boring.
On the other hand, older readers might not have enough depth here.
I'd guess this is for 8-12 year olds.

Review to be posted on Sunday on all sources mentioned on my blog.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

So, I normally don't really request or get dinosaur books any more due to how they look these days. Sorry, I have grown up with a few bird-like dinosaurs (because they were always that), but now more and more of my favourite dinosaurs are changing to overgrown turkeys/chickens. Not a favourite. Maybe if I was a kid I would think it is cool, but yeah, I am an adult, and I prefer my dinosaurs to be scary lizards.

But I couldn't resist this one, the illustrations looked too gorgeous, and before I knew what happened my hand clicked on the request button.

I can understand them not giving all the dinosaurs an image, but come on, at least give them all a description and a height in comparison with humans part. Now I noticed that I just kind of zoomed in on the ones that did have descriptions and illustrations and just forgot to read the rest. :|

I loved that some dinosaurs got a whole page (with background) for themselves! I really was looking forward to those.

I have to say this isn't a book to read in one go. I just read it whenever I had a bit of time/was up for some dinosaur a-b-c's.

The illustrations were absolutely gorgeous! Beautifully detailed, with beautiful and vivid colours!

But yeah, not all the dinosaurs getting information or illustrations, not a book you can read in one go, I am deducing some points for that. But the rest was fabulous. Short but good information to those that got a description, the height thing was good, I LOVED the illustrations.

Usually I love reading about dinosaurs but this one a little hard to read, the pictures was missed up as will , they didn't line up together . WITH that said I want to thank Netgalley for letting me read and review it in change for my honest opinion

An amazing read for children (and adults) of all ages. While the details, informative descriptions and size comparisons will keep the older kids engaged, the colorful illustrations will be loved by the younger. Definitely putting this finished copy on my wish list.

There is a time in a child’s life when they want to know everything they can about dianosaurs. And it is that time that this book would be good for them.

The pictures are bright and colorful. There is just enough information about each diansaur to learn about them, where they were found, and what we know about them, to either wet their appetite for more, or send them back to this book to learn more.

It is a dictionary, after all, and you are not expected to sit and read this all the way through any more than you would a dictionary. But, it is nice how they are drawing dinosaurs with different colors now.

Good reference book to start out with.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

This is so much more than a dictionary; this book is the ultimate guide to all things prehistoric. While the book has the names for each dinosaur and a picture to allow the reader to know what it looked like, it’s also packed with facts including where their fossils have been found.
