The first thing you should know is that it is very much written from a Christian perspective and with no subtlety or apology. If you are not okay with that, this book isn’t for you. Beyond that, I felt like the main female character cried a LOT and was wishy-washy. The story was more confusing than suspenseful. At times, the dialogue was stilted instead of flowing naturally. Finally, the ending wasn’t satisfying.

Thank you to NetGalley, Corky Reed-Watt, and Dog Ear Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.

Beverly worked at Garry’s Socks & Shoes store. There was a murder there, and then another. Beverly didn’t know who to trust or who would be next. This is a story building about a relationship while Beverly also tries to find a killer and explore his/her motives. Midlife Fairy Tales & Murder had a good plot, strong characters and kept you interested. Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to review this book.

A good start- I enjoyed this book but it did have some hiccups, the story at times felt forced or rushed. Making for edgy writing so the story never fully flowed. I see a lot of potential though and would second book.

The storyline, while not original, is a good one. The author has the bones of a good book here but tries too hard to fill every page with action instead of letting the characters come to life and live the story through them. I did enjoy the book, just felt that it would have been much better with a little less going on outside the main story.

A good mystery story though hard to believe at times I did like the characters and would recommend for lovers of cozy mysteries

This one started off pretty good and it seemed like a good concept but I soon lost interest and had to put it down. Sorry to say it did not hold my interest. I received this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for my son honest review.
When I first started reading this book I was intrigued by the storyline and the involvement of Marylin. It was nice to see that she was living the life of so many of us. Single mom raising teenagers dealing with an ex husband who hardly participates in the children's lives except to accuse and insinuate that he sends the mom alot of child support and the kids should demand some of it before the mom wastes all of it.
Then she meets a man who likes her but she is her own worst enemy. There is Christian prayers thrown in but that's about all.
Then more murders and I am lost on the overall plot. I became bored. I felt like it just rambled on and struggled to keep the readers attention.
Started off good then trailed off.

The plot was well thought out. However the story wasn’t as riveting as the synopsis makes it out to be. The characters are well developed. Overall I would recommend this book as a quick read.

Beverly Scott’s life is a mess. She spends her days fruitlessly trying to improve her position at Gerry’s Socks and Shoes, while writing an abysmal novel during meetings to keep the boredom at bay. She is disrespected by her three teenage children as she struggles as a single mom. Her husband abandoned her, and now she pines for a “Prince Charming” who can be both a romantic partner and a contributor to share her financial load. Beverly cries constantly and is insecure and overwhelmed. Things only get worse when she discovers a dead body in the office restroom one day at work. From there, the book tackles the mystery of the death with Beverly becoming a reluctant and witless amateur detective. Midlife Fairytales and Murder by Corky Reed-Watt begins with a good premise, but like her protagonist, the novel becomes overwrought, confused and rudderless. The novel tries to be a romance and a mystery with some Christian propaganda and allusions to fairy tales thrown in. The book suffers mostly by being too ambitious and poorly edited. There are also elements of homophobic and overly didactic attitudes that might offend some readers. Reed-Watt is at her best when portraying Beverly’s interactions with her children and realistically portraying familial angst. Midlife Fairytales and Murder demonstrates how difficult it is for a new author to have an abundance of ideas while needing more practice expressing them.

Thanks to NetGalley and DogEar Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for an objective review.

Sorry not for me. I just couldn't get past chapter three. I'm not sure how it could be improved. Just didn't find it interesting enough. Sorry.

The concept of the book was a really good ideal, but the writing and the way the story is told just fell short for me.

Beverley the divorced mum of three teenage children, finds a dead body in the ladies toilets at work, this then creates "what if's" and "who done it" scenarios but the story just felt really lacking, so personally I was glad when it finished.

This book is funny in places. I found it hard to get into. Sorry. The writing style meant that the story didn't flow and that put me off.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

A middle aged woman, divorced with three children is still waiting for her knight in shining armour, her Prince Charming. It was a fun read, in fact I read it in one sitting. A story of leaving make believe behind and facing the real world. This is when she finally realises that fairy tales are just that - stories and not real.

I struggled with the rating on this one. I can't say that the whole book was bad. The premise was promising, centering on a divorced middle aged woman with three undisciplined children becoming involved in a murder case upon discovering a body--in the restroom at her place of work! I thought the book was going to be a quirky diversion. But this one from a self-publishing outlet is all over the place with its plot line. Problems with verb tense, point of view, and a heroine that is TSTL detract from the story.

One of the tags for the book should be Christian fiction--and not the live and let live brand of Christianity. What is made clear throughout the course of the book is its antigay sentiment. Let's just say that lesbians are portrayed as predatory and evil. I have trouble with any book that demonizes a particular group of people.

All in all, I'd pass on this one.

Full Disclosure--Net Gallery and the publisher provided me with a digital ARC of this book. This is my honest review.
