Reasonably well-written, but this book has too much going on and doesn't really tie it all together. Thanks netgalley for letting me read, but this one couldn't hold my attention. To quote Bad Santa, "They can't all be winners, kid."

This book wasn’t as good as I was hoping it would be. It had a great concept and plot with a good character development but it wasn’t that engaging to me. I just couldn’t get into this book which is why I am giving it only 2 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book for my honest review.

I began this book with an open mind. The beginning interested and intrigued me. However, about half way through it took a weird dive into the fantasy and I was lost. I never did get the point of the story. I was saddened and disappointed.

With regrets, I found this to be very confusing. To be fair, this might well be down to me as I could not seem to settle to the book whatsoever. The main character, a priest, suffering from a crisis of faith(conscience) has taken a leave of absence and finds himself surrounded by the poor, homeless and disenfranchised. He takes on an ad hoc job driving for A.C. (the accountant) who is disabled. Somehow be becomes the focus of police attentions as he witnesses or comes in contact with people that are murdered and the police suspect A.C. of criminal activity. At the same time, nature has gone haywire and the bee population is dying – but seriously. About two-thirds through, I became more involved in the book and actively enjoyed it. The mysterious accountant has fantastic knowledge relating to history, art and genius. Who is he, angel or devil?

This is beautifully written and I loved the latter part of the book. Of course there are no answers, but I was touched and moved by the idea of another loaves and fishes miracle.

Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

This novel started well and continued with good straight forward action and excellent characterization. The mysterious deaths were sufficiently suspenseful. Everything about the first 2/3 of the book was enjoyable.

The last third (or so) took a strange path into the metaphysical arena – and into the hidden cosmic world of good vs. evil. I couldn’t tell exactly what the author’s purpose was at that turn of events. Was this supposed to be Christian fiction? Was this supposed to be Sci-Fi? Fantasy? A dream?

Bottom line is that it was well written, but not my genre (whatever genre it was).

NetGalley made an advanced reader’s copy available to me for an honest review, and I appreciate that.

The Accountant’s Apprentice is a book that captures us with a crime and then, in Dostoevsky fashion, takes us inside the minds of its characters. It’s a twisting and turning narrative that examines the human form.
