Eliana (Eli) Hughes is married to Martin. She works as a Senior Staff Nurse at Cherrygreen Hospice. She is nearly 8 months pregnant and has had a very difficult time with constant nausea. She is also not very excited about her baby and doesn’t know why. Martin is an architect working on a big project out of London that has him traveling back and forth to their home in Ireland.

Eli has just received an anonymous note from someone telling her that she shouldn’t believe everything Martin tells her, inferring that he is cheating on her. In her fragile condition, she becomes very upset and confronts Martin who denies that he is having an affair and can’t understand why someone would be doing this.

Rachel is a work friend of Eli's who is very supportive of her. Her mother, Angela, is first to come and be with her. She raised Eli alone and loves her dearly. With Martin out of town, Angela insists she come stay with her for a couple of days.

When two more notes arrive, one wrapped around a rock and thrown through the window, Eli is just terrified. Her mum tries to reassure her, but hopes that Martin is not guilty of hurting her daughter.

This book!! What a great story. I was really surprised when I finally figured out who the “bad person” is. Eli is a bit of a wimp, but I suppose readers must sympathize with her nausea. But all in all, this is a really good thriller that I know readers are going to love, so don’t miss it.

This is a brilliant novel addressing numerous issues along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and the characters were clever designed with deviousness.

Being pregnant should be an exciting, pleasurable experience but, for Eli, it is not. Married to Martin, a ‘workaholic’, she is struggling with continued sickness when she begins to receive messages in a variety of formats telling her that he is having an affair and the implication is that it is with a close friend.

Eli turns to her mother, Angela, and Eli and Angela narrate the majority of the story. This is intermingled with narration from, Louise, who seems to be a mysterious character with no good intentions.

The author brings the storylines together in a deep, sinister way. I was unable to put it down, a real page tuner of the highest quality.

Wow, this was once again very good. Edge of the seat stuff. From an author who has written mostly romantic fiction in the past until 2018 and this is her 2nd thriller, she is really very good at holding the reader's attention. I didn't see that as an ending! Really clever plot that kept me guessing. I'm looking forward very much for Claire's future thrillers.

Fabulous. As I sit here writing this review I’m getting those feels back for when I was reading this for the first time.

The story is told through three points of view... Eli, her mum Angela and Louise. All three characters are likeable and relatable.

I’m wary about writing about the story as I don’t want to spoil this read for anyone.

This is a brilliantly written gripping read from start to finish. I literally couldn’t put it down.

A seven months pregnant woman still feeling sick and apprehensive about being a mother. Someone trying to ruin her marriage and her own mother acting obsessively. I sympathised with Eli still feeling ill when she would have hoped to be enjoying her pregnancy. Enough T worry about without receiving notes accusing her husband of straying.
I really enjoyed this book. Raced through it in a couple of days. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was struggling to believe a mother could act that way, although when you read the papers maybe it is believable after all.

Being 7 months pregnant, working as a hospice nurse and suffering some awful side effects of pregnancy, Eliana has just about had enough. She has no idea the turn her life is about to take when she receives the first letter. Someone is determined to make Eliana realise that her seemingly perfect future is at risk. As Eliana works to find out whether this person is attempting to do harm or good, elsewhere someone is desperate for a baby, willing to do anything to have one of her own.

This one was just okay. It was an enjoyable read and really well written, but not one I'll be raving about down the track. I guessed the 'twist' pretty early on which took a little bit of the fun out of it, but I still liked the idea. I think what was missing was complexity, a little more action, more twists and more character development. Still an enjoyable read and I'm definitely going to look into this author's other work,

Eliana (Eli) is a palliative care nurse in a hospice. Eli is married to Martin and is 7 months pregnant. However she has been suffering with her pregnancy due to Hyperemesis (severe morning sickness during the day and night).

Eli was feeling constantly unwell and upset she could not bond with her unborn child. Martin also spend week days in London for work. On of Martin`s weeks away Eli arrived at the hospice to find an anonymous letter which said you shouldn't believe everything he tells you.

Upset Eli rings her mother Angela to stay with her until Martin comes back. That night a brick is thrown through her window with a note saying if I were you, I'd watch my husband more closely.

When more notes appear the stress caused Eli to make a devastating mistake at work which caused a death. When Eli is suspended from work and unable to trust Martin she goes to stay with her mother.

However whoever wants to split Eli and Martin`s marriage knows where she is living and continues sending more notes.

Although it is only third week of 2019 Apple of My Eye will be in my top ten books of the year. The plot flowed easily, and I had to take my Kindle upstairs to stop me reading more I could have easily have read the book in one sitting if I wanted to.

The book was split into the POV of Elie, Angela and Louise. Louise`s marriage had broken down after the birth of a still born baby. Still grieving she stalks a pregnant women she met in a cafe.

I did not guess the letter writer until halfway through the book.
Although I guessed the big twist at the end, I still enjoyed the book. I liked Ellie and I understood why she distrusted Martin in her confused state. Although she appeared fragile she was actually a strong character. I felt sorry for Louise who was obviously ill.

I recommend this thrilling book. I look forward to reading Her Name is Rose.

The conclusion was quite satisfying, I just wish it didn’t take so long to get there. At about 60%, I found myself skimming as the story become a bit monotonous. I was annoyed with Eli but I was determined to finish. Readers of twisty thrillers might want to pick this one up but be prepared to slog through a few chapters mid-way. This was a superb book to read and although I predicted the ending about half way through ti did not stop my total enjoyment of the book. It has a great plot with superb characters. Eli is pregnant, hormones abound and she is trying hard to come to terms with the messages that she is receiving stating that her husband Martin is unfaithful. The mother is twisted, manipulative, jealous of her own daughter and certainly creepy. In places it is certainly a disturbing read.

What can I say? This is the first book by Claire Allen that I have read though I now have her first book to read.
A mother's love is like no other love and this book explores that. You will go on a roller coaster I've been so close to tears while reading this.
I've been shouting at my kindle for Eli not to do something.
I thought I worked the main twist out but even if you do it doesn't take anything anything away as there are more that you just won't see coming. A very heart felt read that I loved.

One of the best books I’ve read in ages! I genuinely couldn’t put this down until I’d finished it.
Eliana is heavily pregnant with her first child and life is good. She receives a note out of the blue which suggests her husband has been unfaithful.
What unfolds is a fast paced story with many so many twists and turns, I wondered what might happen next. Eliana is made to doubt every aspect of her life until she no longer knows who she can trust.
A very cleverly written book, with a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Eliana Hughes is a nurse and is 7 months pregnant with her first child, things have been a little strained between her and her husband Martin, due to the prolonged morning sickness and him working away a lot in London, so when a note is left in her locker at work insinuating that something is going on behind her back she doesn't know what to believe, until the person behind it ups the ante, Eli then confronts Martin but is he telling her the truth?

The story is told from three perspectives; Eli, who is struggling with her pregnancy, Louise, who has just lost a baby and wants nothing more than to be a mother and Angela, Eliana's mother, who will do anything for her daughter. I have previously read Claire's first thriller, Her Name Was Rose, which I thought was great and this one didn't disappoint either, I was drawn in right from the start, the chapters were short and choppy with lots of twists, the first hit like a sucker punch to the gut and the next one was a jaw dropper, how can one person be that devious? I flew through this book hoping that Eli would discover the truth before her life was torn apart by those she thought she could completely trust. It's an edge of your seat thriller that I would highly recommend .

This is my first thriller by Claire Allan and I look forward to reading more books from Claire. I have in the past enjoyed her women fiction books. Her writing draws you in and makes you want to know more. This book is told in three points of view which I liked. it was good to see what happened to each person and why. I didn't see what the outcome was going to be which I was pleased about. it's hard to say more about this book without spoiling it.

Well if you read ‘Her Name Was Rose’ by the author earlier this year ( if you havent yet you should!) you will know this book was eagerly anticipated by reviewers keen to see if this book is as good, it is!
Eliana is pregnant and has mixed feelings as the last 7 months has not been easy with never ending sickness and general feelings of inadequacy....she wonders if she will be a good Mum....little knowing someone else is more than excited and is desperate for the baby to arrive....what joy the little bundle is going to bring!, little matter she has to destroy Eliana and her husband Martin to get this joy!
The ‘baddie’ ( who says prot wherever in the real word ) IS BAD, really bad and got me sneering and spitting feathers at her deviousness, I guessed fairly early on who it was but it didn’t matter at all and in fact imo added to the book with me shouting ‘ELIANAAAA DONT TRUST ........’ becoming more and more frequent 😃😃
The book also cleverly deals with Eliana’s young years and the shocking secret there, all becomes clear as the book starts to tie in and the audacity of it all sinks in
Eliana works in a hospice and I felt this and a description of an event there were very sensitively described and gave food for thought as a kinda added extra to the book
The characters range from lovely to vile but at all times are believable and in one case scarily so!

Easy to read book that gripped me from the start. Unfortunately, it became a bit flat and repetitious in the middle but then without warning, it grabbed hold of me once again, spun me around and twisted it's way to a very powerful and satisfactory ending that I hadn't forseen. A good holiday read.

Eliana is a nurse, pregnant, happily married and living with her Husband in a beautiful home. She is suffering from severe all day sickness and struggling to bond with her unborn baby. She starts receiving mysterious notes, making her believe that her Husband is having an affair, making her feel more vulnerable than before. As the warning notes escalate Eliana makes a terrible professional mistake and her career, the last piece of control she had over her life, vanishes.
The story flicks between the main characters in the story, telling it from their points of view, until it finally comes to a devastating conclusion.
I guessed the perpetrator and underlying plot long before the reveal, but this didn’t stop me being gripped right until the bitter end. A great second book and highly recommended.

A book I simply could not put down. We meet Eliana, a palliative nurse, who is 7 months pregnant with her first child. Suddenly random notes arrive warning Eli that her husband is up to no good. Martin, the husband is away a lot on business, as an architect he is in the middle of a huge job, one for which he fought to get the contract for - but is that really what he is doing? Working?

The story is told from three perspectives - Eliana, Angela (Eliana’s mother) and Louise. Louise has suffered the most upsetting tragedies throughout her life with numerous miscarriages and a baby born sleeping and throughout the novel, Louise is looking forward to her new baby - only it isn’t hers. As world’s collide the unthinkable happens.

Fast paced with plot twists and certainly some I wasn’t expecting, this was a fabulous start to 2019 for my book challenge and I can’t wait for more by Claire Allan!

Oh my. I went into this one completely blind because I had never read anything by this author before, but the premise sucked me in. I loved the writing of this one and I was on the edge of my seat so much that I couldn't put it down. I read it in one day. Eliana is pregnant and begins receiving notes detailing how her husband is having an affair. I have to admit that at first, I judged Eliana for doubting her husband. But come on. The hormones are raging and she gets more than one note, each one with increasing intensity. I have to admit that as much as I trust my husband, I would have questions too, even in the best of circumstances. I felt so badly for Eliana, struggling with the pregnancy and with bonding with her unborn child. Meanwhile, there is Louise, grieving over the death of her son. She has decided that she wants a baby, no matter what, and she decides to take one.

This book was just so gripping. I will say that a little more than halfway through the book, I kind of figured out what was going on. Did that ruin it for me? Hell no. The creepy factor was still there and I was just waiting for Eliana to put all the pieces together. I was legitimately afraid for her towards the end. This was such a great book and I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

A well plotted solid novel with a slightly predictable ending but nevertheless a good read. I read this on holiday a week ago and had to remind myself of the story in order to do this review,so not a really memorable game changer.
