Apple of My Eye by Claire Allan ... what a fantastic book! I loved Her Name Was Rose so picking this one up was a no brainier for me. I was hooked straight away but I did have the villain sussed out fairly early on. But I was still intrigued and addicted. I love the way this author writes and would definitely recommend this book to lovers of this genre.

Elia a is 7 months pregnant and not really enjoying it at all. She is always ill, tired and bloated. When she receives a random note in her locker at work she starts to doubt everything in her life, her job, pregnancy and even her marriage. It doesn't end ther and she starts to think she is going to lose it all. The ending was great, I didn't completely guess the why.

Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

Really sensitively written, with a lovely sense of place and tension. Unfortunately I thought the villain was a little obvious!

HOLY COW! This book took me in within the first chapter. I normally try to read while in the library, but this book came home with me and consumed my weekend. It's dark and addictive. I love a good solid thriller and this was one of them. You will not be disappointed.

The Apple of my Eye was such an addictive thriller, I was utterly hooked throughout. When Eli receives random letter at work accusing her husband of having an affair, she does what any other woman would do, confronts him he denies everything, but is he having an affair? Ali then goes to live with her devoted Mum, who will care and look after her and who loves her very much. The twist in the book was truly amazing, I enjoyed every minute of it.

HOLY F*** where do I begin, I started this book this morning and have finished it already, I just could not put it down, OMG!! Eli Hughes is a palliative care nurse in the local hospice in Derry is happily married to Martin and 7 months pregnant. She receives a cryptic note through her pigeon hole at work intimating that her husband is cheating on her, Eli is emotionally fragile already and suffering from hyperemesis, a debilitating morning sickness in pregnancy. Eli begins to doubt her husband Martin and turns to her mother for emotional support. As the person ramps up the campaign to let her know Martin is cheating and after an issue at work, Eli ends up moving to Belfast with her mother for a break. Her mother loves her but can be overpowering in her support, Eli is feeling somewhat claustrophobic never getting a minute to herself to think and turns to an old school friend, Kate to talk to, what will happen to her and her unborn daughter?

Initially told in two narratives, that of Eli and that of a woman named Louise who has suffered so many miscarriages and a still birth late on in pregnancy. Then it swaps over further into the book, the narrative changing alternatively between Eli and Angela (Eli's mother) which I liked.

This was a rollercoaster of a book, so many emotions, deliciously manipulative, gripping from the off.....head spinning trying to figure out who was doing this to Eli, was Martin cheating on her? Who is Louise and where does she come into it? A perfect description of how a woman can suffer from mental health issues following a still birth, very well handled and dealt with I felt. I honestly didn't catch on to who was responsible for what until it was too late.. I'm still shocked, I am actually reeling from it, this book will stay with me for a long time to come.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was a crazy one! This could have gone so many ways and I thought I had it figured out a bunch of times but nope. I did get it figured out before the reveal but not by much and even then the story still had some surprises.

The writing is so good, clever. It pulled me in quickly. The characters have great depth to them. It’s impossible to say much about this without spoiling it so I won’t. Do yourself a favor and go into it without reading the reviews because this is a less known the better sort.

This is my second by this author and they just keep getting better!

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Avon Books UK for a copy in exchange for a review.

This book was well written and the subjects were well developed, yet at the same time still unknown in the case of one character. Eli is being stalked and receiving notes that are tearing her world apart. It messes with her trust with her husband and best friend all while she is pregnant with hyperemesis. She goes home to stay with her mother and finds out that this was a bad mistake. People are not what they seem in this book, Thanks for the ARC, Net Galley.

Having read Her Name was Rose, I was really looking forward to reading Claire Allan's new book, Apple of my Eye.

Eli and Martin are a very happily married couple expecting their first child. Eli, a hospice nurse, is suffering from hyperemesis, constant debilitating "morning" sickness. She starts receiving notes hinting that her husband is having an affair and she can't trust him. Seeds of doubt are sown in her mind. Through it all her mum is there helping her and reassuring her that she's always there for her. When eventually the stress gets too much for her, after a rock and another note is thrown through the window of her home, she heads to Belfast to stay with her mother for a while. After all, who's going to mind you like your mum?

Alongside Eli's story, is the disturbing side story of Louise, who has suffered many miscarriages and, traumatised, sets her sights on someone else's newborn baby whom she believes will have a better life with her...

What an epic rollercoaster of a read! This is definitely a cracker of a read. It races along, ratcheting up the tension as it hurtles towards an ending that had me gasping "oh no's" on the bus home from work. I liked Eli, I liked her workplace setting and I felt connected with her, wishing her well in her pregnancy and willing her to not be so hasty in her assumptions. Louise's story is all too believable in how devestating personal incidents can take a huge toll on our mental health. I did have an idea who the perpetrator was from about 30% or so but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book, if anything it enhanced the tension and the horror of what was to come. A great psychological thriller.

Fast paced and atmospheric. Kept me guessing until the very end. Enjoyed the characters and the story was gripping.

Eli is in the last stages of a difficult pregnancy when she begins receiving anonymous notes implying that her husband is cheating on her. Eli is under huge stress and a mistake is made which could jeopardize her career. Her mother is as always a great support and insists that Eli move back home with her to give her time to sort out her life.

Apple of my Eye is a psychological thriller at its best. It was slow to start but soon the tension starts to build and I was totally addicted and flipping through the pages. There are not a lot of characters in the story so the plot is well thought out and the writing is excellent. There are some nice little plot twists which I thoroughly enjoyed. Recommended.

I genuinely enjoyed this one. Despite the fact that it was quite easy to determine in which way the story was heading, this in no way detracted from the enjoyment of the story. Well written and gripping with believable characters.

Wow , what a great read this was . Eliana who is a nurse at a hospice , married and expecting her first child starts to receive anonymous notes implying her husband is cheating on her and can't be trusted . She runs to her Mum for comfort but her Mum is so overly protective she is almost suffocating Eli . How far will her mother go to keep Eli and the baby at home with her . Well written and thrilling I really enjoyed this and raced through it .

Claire Allan has really become one to watch when it comes to psychological thrillers. After Her Name Was Rose, now another gripping, suspenseful story that I challenge anyone to put down once they've got started. Counting the days until the next one is out!

Apple Of My Eye
by Claire Allen
due Jan. 2019
Avon, London

Constable William Dawson was called to the home of Martin and Eliana Hughes when a rock with a not attached was thrown through the front window in the middle of the night. The note hinted that Martin may be having an affair, maybe he isn't being honest.....maybe "You shouldn't believe everything he tells you."
Martin denies having an affair, but Eli, 6 months pregnant, decides to go stay with her mother, Angela in her childhood home in North Belfast.
A mothers love for her child is like nothing else in the world...

Jealousy and tension build, Eli is suspicious of everyone and is not sure who she can trust. The suspense is high and gains momentum with each page and the story will lead you in so many directions.
But the ending will leave you speechless.
Fantastic. A true psychological thriller.
Thank you to Avon, London and Net Galley for an e-book ARC of this book.

I have always loved Claire Allan’s books but having loved her change genre in herblast book I could not wait to read her latest and it did not disappoint!! Clare’s writing is just getting better her natural talent for writing shines through in this excellent thriller.

This book is amazing! I was hooked the whole way through and found myself on the edge of my seat , page turning late into the night.

Motherhood and marriage is explored in this book Eliana Hughes is six months pregnant when she receives an anonymous note which has her questioning her marriage, Her husband had become distant and she wonders if this note could hold the key to that. Other events occur which add extra tension? Could Martin be cheating? Who is telling the truth and who is manipulating things?

Angela is Eli’s mother who will do anything to help her daughter but just how far is she willing to go to protect her daughter?

I loved the short chapters which made the pace of the book enjoyable and the twists along the way had me holding my breath willing things to turn out ok.

I recommend this fantastic addictive read highly. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for my chance to read this rollercoaster book for an honest review.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* This book is deliciously creepy and shows that not all is as it seems and you can't necessarily trust those that are closest to you.. or can you? Eliana Hughes is six months pregnant when she starts to receive nasty notes implying that not all is right in her marriage to architect Martin. "YOU SHOULDN'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING HE TELLS YOU" it reads. Not sure who she can trust, she turns to her mother Angela and flees to her childhood home in Belfast. As always, when reviewing a thriller, I feel the need to tell a lot less when describing the plot, so as to err on the side of caution when it comes to spoilers. Author Claire Allan came to my attention with her recent thriller 'Her Name Was Rose' and I was not disappointed with second foray into the gene. A gripping and compulsive read set in the North of Ireland, a region that has always fascinated me.

When heavily pregnant Eli receives a note telling her she can’t trust her husband Martin, she’s not sure what to think. Eli is already struggling with her pregnancy and things with Martin have not been easy since she discovered she was expecting. When Eli receives another note, she decides to confront Martin who protests his innocence, but can Eli really trust him? As things with Martin come to a head, Eli relies on the one person she knows she can trust: her mum Angela. As Eli’s life begins to spiral out of control she is shocked to discover who is interfering in her life.

Elsewhere within the story line someone wants a baby and they will do whatever it takes to get one.

Apple of my Eye is an addictive thriller with plenty of twists and turns, a story of deception and manipulation which I would recommend.

Apple of My Eye is a good read. Probably not the best thriller I've read but enough to keep me reading. I felt the relationship between Eli and her mother a bit predictable which was off putting for me.
