This is an absolutely brilliant modern thriller which I enjoyed very much. I couldn't put it down and kept on reading to the exciting ending.

This book was fast paced. Hard to put down. It flowed well and it was very well written. It caught hold of me and had me hooked from the start . I was literally on the edge of my seat reading this book.

I was completely surprised. The book was amazing in the convolutions. You think you had it figured out and then it twists and spirals off another way. Totally shocking and surprised at the end, with all of the possibilities.

What a wonderful, bittersweet story of twin sisters, one of whom goes missing and is subsequently discovered dead many years later. Thus begins a gradual unravelling of all the lies surrounding the family and their individual sins and guilt, which are not always what you'd expect.

Told in two different times, current and before Edie dies, the characterisation is strong and the events twisty-turny, making for a real page turner of a book. I absolutely flew through this one, riveted by every page.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.

Fab read. Could not put down. Highly recommended to all. Believable characters. Great author. Will be watching out for more titles.

I enjoyed this book, although I did find Tess to be a bit of a frustrating character. The changing narrative between past and present worked well and slowly introduced new potential suspects. I didn't guess the culprit, although I gather that some reviewers did before the reveal. Personally, I didn't see it coming and I was genuinely quite surprised. Looking forward to reading from the author!

This book was a bit of a mixed bag for me. While overall fairly enjoyable, I did find the story to be pretty predictable. The main issue I had with this story was how incredibly frustrating the main character. I understand she was having problems with addiction she just made terrible choice followed by terrible choice and it was incredibly frustrating to read.

For 20 years Tess has not known what had happened to her sister Edie when they were both 14 years old. When Edie’s body is finally discovered it brings with it a lot of uncertainty and loads of unanswered questions. Throughout the story, new questions are asked and most of them are answered.

This story is a back and forth one, alternating between present day and 20 years ago where it builds up a picture of the girls growing up and also of Tess as she is today. Tess and Edie had been close but, as they grew older they started to drift apart as their interests and like started to change. Edie was more outgoing of the two, but Tess found herself more isolated, the odd one out if you like and wanting to hang onto her sisters coat-tails. Tess was more old-fashioned, preferring things to stay as they were, while Edie wanted to discover new things and people.

All families have things that are not shared with their children. Parents don’t discuss their doubts and fears with them, wanting to keep their children’s childhood as happy and carefree as possible. The full details of their childhood only start to emerge as Tess starts to dig into the past and finally starts to discover hidden truths.

This story has a good pace to it and follows the lives of the girls and the key figures in their lives. It is a story that felt more like a murder mystery rather than a crime thriller for me. It is one I enjoyed and I had a character in my head for the culprit and, while I was right in my assumption I did have the odd wobble of doubt and thought I may have misjudged it. For me, this didn’t take away any enjoyment of the story, it is about the journey and the reason behind the truth rather than who was responsible.

It is one I would recommend!

Edie and Tess are as close as you would expect twins to be until a tragedy hits their family. Edie feels the need to pull away, reinvent herself whereas Tess wants to cling to being children. When Edie vanishes Tess is convinced she's fun away, that one day she'll come back. But 20 years later the discovery of her remains pulls Tess back to her fractured family. Tortured for years by not knowing what happened Tess now has to know who killed her sister, and why.

Alternating between now and the nineties this is a great whodunit, with plenty of twists and red herrings vying to throw the reader off the scent. Highly enjoyable.

Twins Tess and Edie are 14 years old and one day Edie goes missing and is never seen again, nobody knows if she’s is alive or dead, 20yrs later her body is found and Tess comes back while the police reopen the investigation and she also decides to do some digging herself putting herself in the line of fire.

I totally devoured this and the ending is a killer! Loved how the pages just blurred into one another and was seriously gutted when I’d finished it and wanted more.

A must read, can’t wait for more from the author.

I found the book quite slow to start with and quite long however the suspense is great and the book is gripping towards the end. I found it a bit difficult to connect with the characters however I did like the story.

I’ve always had a fascination for twins, so this book caught my eye. Tess and Edie are twins, but when they reach fourteen, Edie mysteriously disappears. What has happened to her? The novel takes us back and forth for over twenty years. I found it slow moving in parts, and the characters were an odd bunch, but it was a compelling novel with an unexpected genius ending. Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK

This book was very clever but unnecessarily long. Lots of superfluous content and characters that were difficult to connect to. The conclusion however was totally unexpected.

A creepy familial thriller, with many twists and turns, this one will keep you guessing right to the end. I can usually guess the 'baddie' but I failed completely with this!

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon books and Olivia Isaac-Henry for the chance to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This thriller was a quick and gripping read. From early on there seemed to be a glaringly obvious culprit. But was this the case or was the author deliberately trying to mislead us so we are surprised by the truth? I vacillated between the two possibilities many times during this book and later on when I considered other suspects.

The dual timelines with different narrators works well for the story. In the present day we have Tess narrating and see how she remembers her sister, events leading to and surrounding her disappearance, and how it shaped her life and still affects her to this day. In the flashback chapters our narrator is Edie. This allows us to get to know her as more than a body that’s now been found and learn who she was, what she thought from her own perspective instead of through Tess’s eyes. The difference in how Tess remembers things and how Edie viewed things at the time, and how very different the two girls were, adds a greater dimension to the story and gives us more clues as to who could have killed her than if we had just had the one narrator.

One of the themes that runs through the book is the family’s mistrust of the police. This stems from how close family members were suspected back when Edie vanished and things they said were twisted. Determined to find out what happened to her twin Tess begins to investigate for herself, only for her family to dissuade her from doing that too. Could there be more to both these things? Are they actually trying to stop her from finding out a truth they’ve been hiding all these years?

Full of twists and turns this was a thriller that repeatedly surprised me. I recommend this to anyone looking for a good readable thriller.

Twins, Edie (the charismatic, popular one) and Tess who is the complete opposite (smaller, angrier and a loner). Life isn’t harmony and light especially when Edie disappears. Forward 20 years and secrets and lies start emerging - what did happen to Edie? Told from both girls points of view. This is one of those slow burners which doesn’t really reach its full potential, but would have had it been about a third shorter - perhaps a bit less of the smoking, drinking and watching television descriptions? Some of the characters were so wishy washy and should have got a grip instead of wallowing in self pity and woe is me all the time. Loved the cover and the style of writing which made for an easy read.

Tess was one of twins, her sister Edie, went missing when she was 14. While there was no body, there was hope. Her body is found 20 year later and the investigation opens up again. Everyone is sitting on secret but who did it?
I love this genre of book because you just never know who done it until the very end and it is a shock when you find out.
The book switches from present day to 20+ years in the past so we get an idea of what was going on even around the time of Edie’s disappearance.
This was a fantastic read and would definitely look out for more books from this author

I love a good psychological thriller and Someone You Know is definitely one of those, even though – in many ways – it fits into the formula of so many books I’ve read over recent years. Tess is a young(ish) woman who can’t move on with her life because of what happened in her past. She drinks too much, parties too much and won’t commit to a relationship with a man she thinks she loves. Then, the very thing she can’t get over in her past comes crashing into her future, this time in the form of her sister’s remains, found after she went missing twenty years earlier.
The news brings Tess back home, to a father who never got over her sister’s disappearance either and an aunt and uncle whose marriage seems strained to breaking. They all seem to be hiding some, as do old school friends and boyfriends. Unable to live without knowing the truth, Tess digs deeper and deeper. Unfortunately, what she finds out is worse than anything she could possibly have imagined.
So, a story that so many of us have read so many times. Here, though, the writing is so good and the story is so well written I forgot that. Instead, I got carried along and carried away with the story. I loved every minute of it, reading it in just two sittings, and can’t wait to read another book by Issac-Henry.

I read “ Someone You Know” by Olivia Isaac- Henry in two days. It was a very engrossing novel told in alternating chapters of the past and the present. This novel kept me guessing until the very end. There were some slow moments but overall, it was enjoyable. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. Definitely a very solid debut!
